I just learned that it is called Hoarfrost: A deposit of interlocking ice crystals (hoar crystals) formed by direct sublimation on objects, usually those of small diameter freely exposed to the air, such as tree branches, plant stems and leaf edges, wires, poles, etc., which surface is sufficiently cooled, mostly by nocturnal radiation, to cause the direct sublimation of the water vapor contained in the ambient air.

being snowed in wouldn’t be bad if you were married to a hot guy and had a lot of food and books and big screen tv and joined netflix and well, you get the idea..

Actually, I haven’t spoken to my wife in over three months...we’re not fighting or anything, I just don’t like to interrupt.

It's 46 F today in Pocatello. The snow has been gently melting over the last week. Some rain is forecast tomorrow. That is slated to turn to snow in the evening. About 1/2" expected accumulation. Normal for this time of year. It's 52 F outside my window. Shirt sleeve weather. Spring is closing in.

I can understand why you threw it in the snow bank. It looks next to useless. My double wide driveway, front steps and sidewalk generally take 15 to 20 minutes to shovel. That's with 4-5 inches accumulation. I'm seeing lots of lawn peeking out this week. There are still some pretty deep piles on either side of the driveway. We get about 40 inches of snow annually.

On WMUR this morning, the weather guy did some research, and Concord is only about 20” shy of the record snowfall since they’ve been keeping track (About 120”). Here in Francestown, I know that we’ve had way more than that...

At least it’s easy to clean the snow off your roof.

I know the feeling. I’ve also lived (went to prototype) in Idaho Falls and lived in Montpelier as a kid. Sitting in that bowl of a valley isn’t that much fun when it’s 10 above right before sunrise, and -20 right afterwards. You get it too.

Once the snow eases up here tomorrow and I get the driveway semi-cleared, I'll take and post a few pics. It's amazing, really.

I grew up in San Diego. Pocatello is very similar. It's desert. The temps drop like a rock when the sun goes down. I'm fortunate to live just a bit north of I-86. That provides a nice view to the west over the Snake River plain. Late sunsets in the summer are very pleasant. My son is living in my second house in Pocatello. He's just enough south to be in the "bowl" of the Pocatello valley area. Sunsets come significantly earlier because of the mountains directly west. It's amazing that a 2.5 mile difference in location plays with the sunset so much.
I took a drive out to Soda Springs one afternoon. Not much out there. The "spring" isn't naturally active anymore, but the geological feature is very similar to some of the springs I've seen at Yellowstone.

Ain't it beautiful? All the rivers, lakes and streams will be full in another three... ok, six weeks. New England should form a water consortium and sell the stuff for outrageous prices to those dried out Georgia rebels.
Just kidding, all you southron FReepers!
