Chavez orders troops to Colombian border (10 battalions, WAR?)
KRIS ^

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez is sending 10 battalions of troops to country's border with Colombia.

He's also ordered the Venezuelan embassy in Bogota closed and say all embassy personnel will be withdrawn from Colombia.

The announcements by Venezuela's leftist leader pushed relations with its neighbor to their tensest point of his 9-year presidency.

Chavez is also warning that Colombia could spark a war in South America, calling its U.S.-allied government "a terrorist state" and labeling President Alvaro Uribe (oo-REE'-bay) "a criminal."

What’s a Bolshecrat to do, one of their heros, Chavez, is going up against one of their arch villains, Uribe. It must be a civil war, therefore, we don’t want to get involved. It’s a quagmire, don’t get involved. Let the Russkies handle it.

A better image.

This is an even better one, but I have my doubts that an image hosted from Cuba itself will retain the FR hotlink (so Admin/JimRob, if this turns into porn or something at a later date, it was meant as a close-up of the first image).

I have no idea what it is supposed to be...but it could have made Iwannajihad jealous:

Or Carter (obviously the Cuban anthem being paid respect to).

Just because at one point in time the U.S. oil companies were not doing well, does not now mean they haven’t figured out they can get away with these unjustified price hikes.

You have clearly fallen for the fallacy of "just price" theory, combined with some leftist conspiracy drivel. If the oil were not more valuable to the buyer than the money paid for it, the buyer would just keep his money and go without the oil. Since the oil *is* more valuable than the money (to the buyer), he buys, and both parties win.

Oil commpanies aren't "getting away" with anything. They're selling a product for the price the market will bear. They aren't some kind of monolithic "big oil" group - the global oil market is huge and has lots of players. The price of oil is where it is because that's what it's worth to people at the moment.

Read this article by Thomas Sowell for more discussion of pricing in markets. It's well-written and insightful, as Sowell always is.

Here's what Jack Wheeler had to say about this back 2/8/08:

"Close to home is a third war on the horizon, between Venezuela and Colombia.

Chavez's rule and the Venezuelan economy are disintegrating. The time honored solution of dictators when they are in trouble is war with a foreign devil. There is no way he can coax his favorite devil into war with him - America, whom he revels in taunting and insulting. To his bottomless frustration, all he gets from us is a smirk and a shrug.

So he picks a proxy, our ally of Colombia run by a successful popular pro-US president, Alvaro Uribe. Chavez has tried to damage Uribe by supporting the narco-communist guerrillas of FARC, which at one time ruled an area within Colombia the size of Switzerland.

Thanks to Uribe, FARC is now on the ropes, and the Colombian people have shrugged off their fear of FARC. This Monday (2/4), millions of Colombians all over the country demonstrated against FARC and its atrocities against them. Chavez condemned the demos as a "march of hate and racism." Chavez has spent billions on Russian weapons from Soviet MiG fighters to hundreds of thousands of AK-47 Kalashnikovs. With FARC failing and the US refusing his bait, he is going to create some excuse for invading Colombia. He can't wait until some Dem weenie is in the White House a year from now. Which means we'll be sending the Marines into Colombia to kick Chavez's commie butt at Uribe's urgent request.

Pray that Cheney can convince Bush to have them chase Chavez all the way to Caracas and rid Venezuela of his pestilence. There would be a ticker-tape rose petal parade for the Marines in downtown Caracas if they did."

Well of course, it accompanies this one:

Some more:

More of America's friends.

Where is the third stooge?

Another meeting of folks who determine America's energy policies (more of our unelected leaders, for when the UN is not enough).

Sadly, I cannot find the images of the recent American and British Green Party delegation which met with Chavez in Caracas.

Memo to Hugo Chavez:

Americans don't like socialist dictators, especially ones that reside in the western hemisphere. And Americans don't like oil-rich tin pot dictators who seek office for life. Americans don't like drug cartels, and war mongers -- despite what your Hollywood friends tell you.

Your rationale for this will fall on deaf ears here.

I dry run to see reaction from the US predidential candidates.

He knows Bush would have no problem assisting Colombia; what he does not know is how Obama will react once many foolish FReepers “teach McCain a lesson”. So he’ll have a year to rethink this strategy knowing what to expect from the US.

A smart move by Chavez IMO, and McCain needs to jump on this immediately because Obama would just sit back and do nothing.

Chavez is very afraid of a coup

Probably right on the money! Hugo knows some young Captain is plotting, just the way he did. He just doesn't know which one! Thus, get em out of town, and rattle sabres at the Colombian boogie man at the same time.

No one is trying to "teach McCain a lesson". We just don't support him because he hasn't earned our support. That is HIS responsibility. We aren't Dems here, don't blame others for McCain's failings. HE is responsible for engendering support amongst his party. He's just not doing a very good job of it.

Otherwise, I agree that B. Hussein would do nothing and should never be President of anything.

Thanks for the quote. There’s nothing wrong with that sorta thinking by the way. Sure would save a lot of trouble & lives, too.

It WOULD be cheaper to dethrone him and establish a democracy in that country.

Yeah... that theory has worked out well so far...

For just a moment, imagine 10 battalions of the mexican military sent to our border. How would that strike you?

That's a lot of new citizens! Can they bring their spouses and children? How will that many Marticula cards be issued in short order? I guess it sounds like our border, as usual.
