ARTICLE SNIPPET: “LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nearly 40,000 people learned this week that a trip to the doctor may have made them sick. In a type of scandal more often associated with Third World countries, a Las Vegas clinic was found to be reusing syringes and vials of medication for nearly four years. The shoddy practices may have led to an outbreak of the potentially fatal hepatitis C virus and exposed patients to HIV, too.”

Looks like more proof Adam Gadahn really is dead!! He use to be AQ’s geek.
Time Marches on...
Thanks so much for all your hard work!
1. The previous years offensives, although having limited early success, were disastrous in that large numbers of Tali fighters and key leaders were killed. This was in part due to their attempt to move in larger formations - hence early success in remote area - leaving them sitting ducks for allied airpower once allied forces moved into the area. Thus they have few qualified leaders and even fewer fighters. Those fighters that remain are probably demoralized due to the defeat of AQ in Iraq.
2. Pakistan unrest. With the change over of government and the ongoing turmoil of national leadership, Tali/AQ and Paki fundamentalists are creating mayhem across the country. This secures Waristian for Tali/AQ ops bases, while directing forces into Pakistan rather than Afghanistan.
3. Indicators that the US is preparing a mini-surge style campaign to preempt any Tali spring offensive.
It’s not a great plan to prod a 155 howitzer round with your rifle barrel.
A group of Iraqi volunteer militiamen attempted to dig out a roadside bomb.
You can imagine the results.
A U.S. aircraft was overhead and the air-crew was viewing the activity at the time.

Coalition Forces Continue to Disrupt Terrorist Activities in Iraq
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, March 6, 2008 Coalition forces killed four terrorists and detained 26 suspects during operations over the past two days to disrupt al Qaeda networks operating in northern and central Iraq.
During operations today:
— In Baghdad and Abu Ghraib, coalition forces detained four suspects while targeting an alleged al Qaeda senior leader. The targeted individual allegedly is responsible for the overall operational direction for the city’s networks and is believed to be the networks senior leader for Baghdads southern belt.
— In two coordinated operations north of Taji, coalition forces targeted suspected associates of the leader for the Bizayz al Qaeda network, which operates east of Khan Bani Sad. The leader is believed to be a close associate of several al Qaeda senior leaders and related to a terrorist facilitator for the Baghdad networks. Coalition forces detained 12 suspected terrorists during the operations and found identification-card-making materials on site.
— North of Samarra, coalition forces conducted an operation targeting an alleged leader for the city’s al Qaeda network. The suspect reportedly is responsible for racketeering and embezzlement of local oil and gas infrastructure. During the operation, a man came out of the building and began to move toward the ground force. The man did not comply when repeatedly directed to stop. Based on intelligence reports indicating an increased use of suicide vests among al Qaeda associates, coalition forces engaged the man, killing him and wounding two suspects near him. The suspects were subsequently detained, treated on site and transported to a military medical facility for further care. In addition to the wounded individuals, two other suspected terrorists were detained.
— In northeast Mosul, coalition forces captured an alleged al Qaeda cell leader who reportedly commands a group of terrorists responsible for operations in several city districts. His group is believed to be responsible for multiple attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces and Iraqi government officials. The group also allegedly is involved in the construction of car bombs. During the operation, the suspect identified himself to the ground force and was detained without incident.
— Two suspected terrorists were detained during operations in Beiji. One is an alleged associate of several al Qaeda senior leaders operating in the Tigris River Valley. The suspect also reportedly is connected with members of the Beiji al Qaeda network, and military and administrative leaders for the network in Samarra.
“Iraqi and coalition forces continue to find and dismantle al Qaeda in Iraq’s networks,” said Army Maj. Winfield Danielson, a Multinational Force Iraq spokesman. “Operations like these show that, while a tough fight remains ahead of us, we will keep al Qaeda on the defensive, diminishing the terrorists’ ability to wreak their indiscriminate violence on innocent civilians.”
In operations yesterday:
— East of Samarra, forces conducted an operation targeting an alleged associate of an explosives facilitator connected to the al Qaeda network in Baghdad. Intelligence reports led coalition forces to a location where the wanted individual was believed to be operating, and they observed two suspects in the target vehicle. The driver failed to comply when forces tried to stop the vehicle. The assault force eventually fired on the vehicle to stop it and observed the driver, who was armed with a pistol, and a passenger attempt to evade capture. Coalition forces killed both men. As the ground force cleared the area, they found al Qaeda propaganda materials and false identification documents. The vehicle was destroyed to prevent further use for terrorist activities.
— In another operation nearby, coalition forces followed a group of men believed to be associated with a known al Qaeda meeting location. As they arrived in the target area, three of the suspects surrendered to the ground force and were detained. A fourth suspect drew his pistol and attempted to detonate the suicide vest he was wearing. Coalition forces engaged and killed the terrorist. The ground force safely disposed of the suicide vest to prevent future use. When forces cleared the area, they found weapons, a military-style assault vest, terrorist propaganda, media and improvised explosive device materials. Both buildings were destroyed to prevent further terrorist use.
“Al Qaeda will find no safe haven in Iraq,” Danielson said. “Iraqi and coalition forces, with the help of the Iraqi people, will keep the pressure on the terrorists, improving security for all Iraqis.”
In other operations this week:
— Soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division discovered a munitions cache on a routine patrol in west of Taji on March 3. The soldiers found 20 artillery rounds of various calibers, four AK-47 assault rifles, 90 artillery fuses, six motor rockets, three anti-tank mines, six hand grenades, 1,000 7.62 mm rounds, a rocket-propelled grenade, 20 anti-aircraft rounds, five anti-tank rocket rounds and a rifle. The weapons and munitions were consolidated and controlled by explosive ordnance disposal personnel for disposal. The mission was part of Operation Phantom Phoenix, the ongoing operation to kill or capture al Qaeda in Iraq and to deny them rest and sanctuary in Baghdad and the surrounding rural areas.
— Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division detained three insurgents and discovered two weapons caches during an overnight raid in Adwaniyah on March 3. Individuals in the area had informed their sheik that a member of the community was attempting to recruit fellow citizens for insurgent activities against coalition forces and fellow Iraqi citizens. Concerned for the safety of his town, the sheik passed the information to coalition soldiers. Soldiers discovered bomb-making materials, cassette tapes and other propaganda inside the suspects house. Outside the house, soldiers discovered a weapons cache containing 100 feet of detonation cord, five grenades, a quarter pound of TNT, 5 pounds of plastic explosives, two rocket-propelled grenade charge tubes, 28 mortar round charges, 33 bags of gunpowder, 5 pounds of unknown bulk explosives, five shotgun shells, two AK-47s, two machine guns, two blasting caps, four timers, two 7.62 mm ammunition magazines and 5 ounces of acetone peroxide, a primary high explosive. The following day, soldiers were led to a cache containing five 120 mm mortars and a bucket full of washing-machine timers.
— Soldiers from the 10th Mountain Divisions 1st Brigade successfully conducted Operation Chaos Thunder Strike II with the Iraqi army in the Rashad Valley in northern Iraqs Kirkuk province. The air assault mission is part of Operation Phantom Phoenix. The joint forces moved throughout the area in the middle of the night, searching for terrorist activity and consulting with the citizens as they gathered information and made their presence known.

Times Square Recruiting Station Bombing Causes Minor Damage
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, March 6, 2008 No one was injured and only minor structural damage was reported after a bomb went off outside the Armed Forces Recruiting Station in New York Citys Times Square early this morning.
The bomb went off at about 3:45 a.m., cracking the glass door, bending the door frame and shattering the large glass window in front of the station, said Army Capt. Charlie Jacquillard, the commander for the six Army recruiting stations in Manhattan.
The station, jointly manned by Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps recruiters, is possibly the most well-known recruiting station in the world.
Our troops are dedicating to carrying out our mission despite obstacles or adversity, Jacquillard said. We will demonstrate strength of character by remaining open despite this incident.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, has begun assessing damage for immediate repair to get the station back to operation as soon as possible.
Times Square recruiting station commander, Army Sgt. 1st Class James Latella said he is very happy to be opening tomorrow to demonstrate to the public that his troops mission will continue on as usual.
Although not confirmed as a deliberate act against the U.S. Army or military in general, our soldiers remain committed to their recruiting mission and its our intent to have the Times Square recruiting station reopened as soon as possible, said Army Col. Michael Negard, U.S Training and Doctrine Command chief of Public Affairs.
Incidents of harassment and vandalism against military recruiters in the form of spitting, threatening words, graffiti and broken windows are not uncommon since many recruiters reside in leased office buildings outside the confines of military installations and are susceptible to personal attacks, Air Force officials said.
This is not the first time one of our offices has been used to demonstrate, but violence is not tolerated and law enforcement officials will find the perpetrator and prosecute, said Brig. Gen. Suzanne M. Vautrinot, Air Force Recruiting Service commander. I must commend Air Force officials for doing a superb job of responding, reporting and accounting for their people.
Army officials said that while the incident is being investigated, all Army recruiting stations have been told to assume a higher level of awareness.
Civil and federal authorities are investigating the bombing.

High tolerance for terror
Waterbury Republican-American ^ | March 5, 2008 | Editorial
Posted on 03/06/2008 7:18:51 AM PST by Graybeard58
Three high-end houses in a Seattle suburb went up in smoke Monday and two others were damaged in the latest domestic terrorism by the Earth Liberation Front, a group of animal-rights and environmental wackos responsible for hundreds of arsons and other acts of sabotage in the Northwest over the past two decades.
ELF and other anarchists opposed the development of environmentally friendly homes in Woodinville, Wash., because they were near the headwaters of Bear Creek, home to the endangered chinook salmon. No doubt the creek and adjoining wetlands and aquifer benefited greatly from the ash, soot and runoff from Monday’s fires.
The FBI has been warning Congress for years that ELF, the Animal Liberation Front and the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty Campaign are America’s leading domestic terrorism groups. From 1990 to 2004, ELF and ALF were responsible for more than 1,200 firebombings and other illegal acts that inflicted tens of millions in damages. In 2005, the FBI reported domestic terror is increasing in frequency and scale. Eco-terrorists’ intimidation tactics include stalking scientists and researchers, mailing them anonymous death threats and booby-trapped letters, and vandalizing their homes and offices. ALF’s Web site includes detailed instructions for building bombs and burning buildings.
These people are as dangerous as they are slippery, but Congress seems intent upon hamstringing the FBI by forcing it to devote investigative resources to determine whether Roger Clemens lied to the congressional kangaroo court investigating the use of performance-enhancing drugs in pro sports. Perjury is a serious offense, but why distract the FBI from more serious pursuits just so politicians can add Mr. Clemens’ stubbly scalp to their trophy case?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 6, 2008
International Arms Dealer Arrested On Terrorism Charges In Bangkok
DEA Investigation Nabs Victor Bout for Conspiracy to Provide SAMs to a Foreign Terrorist Organization
MAR 6 — DEA Acting Administrator Michele M. Leonhart and Michael J. Garcia, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced the arrest of Victor Bout, an international arms dealer charged with conspiring to sell millions of dollars worth of weapons to the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (the “FARC”) — a designated foreign terrorist organization based in Colombia. Bout and co-defendant Andrew Smulian were arrested yesterday on the U.S. charges by Thai authorities in Bangkok.
According to court documents, between November 2007 and February 2008, Bout and Smulian agreed to sell to the FARC millions of dollars worth of weapons including surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs) and armor piercing rocket launchers. During a series of recorded telephone calls and emails, Bout and Smulian agreed to sell the weapons to two confidential sources (CSs) working with the DEA, who held themselves out as FARC representatives acquiring these weapons for the FARC for use in Colombia.
In addition, during a series of consensually recorded meetings in Romania, Smulian advised the CSs, among other things, that Bout had 100 SAMs available immediately and could also provide helicopters and armor piercing rocket launchers. During one of the meetings with the CSs, Smulian provided one of the CSs with a digital memory stick that contained an article about Bout, and documents containing photographs and specifications for the SAMs and armor piercing rocket launchers that Smulian had previously said Bout could provide.
In between his meetings with the CSs, Smulian spoke to Bout over a cellphone provided to him by one of the CSs at the direction of the DEA. During one of these conversations, Bout and Smulian discussed the $5 million delivery fee for the weapons.
Bout and Smulian are charged with conspiracy to provide material support or resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization. If convicted, the defendants each face a maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment.
The U.S. plans to pursue the extradition of the defendants from Thailand.
The international law enforcement operation announced today was the result of cooperation between the DEA, the Royal Thai Police, the Romanian Border Police, the Korps Politie Curacao of the Netherlands Antilles, and the Danish National Police Security Services.

WASHINGTON - A law enforcement official says police are investigating letters sent to Capitol Hill offices showing pictures of a Times Square military recruiting station that was bombed.
According to the official, who was briefed on the investigation, the letters included words to the effect of, “We did it.” The official did not know which offices received the letters.
The small bomb caused minor damage to the New York military recruiting station before dawn Thursday and police were searching for a hooded bicyclist seen on a surveillance video peddling away.

Threatened Kurt Westergaard Expresses His Feelings - Through Drawings
Kurt Westergaard. And 81 more:
There are 82 Kurt Westergaards living in Denmark but only one of them is the man who life is under daily threat because of his caricatures of the founder of Islam.
However, some of other 81 “Kurts” scattered across Denmark have also received mistaken identity death threats because they share the same name as the illustrator.
One, a businessman from the Danish town of Aabenraa, has been offered protection by Denmark’s intelligence agency, the PET, after receiving multiple death threats.
“The worst thing was that they also called my three children. They wanted to kidnap my family and murder me,” he said.
Three weeks ago police arrested three men for conspiracy to murder the real Kurt Westergaard. He joked to media yesterday that “at least it takes some of the immense pressure off of me”.
“As one of my friends put it, it’s too bad for the Kurts,” he said.
Via danish Journalisten, Mr. Westergaard shares his thoughts and expresses his feelings.
