The editor of a Swedish newspaper has received death threats for publishing a picture of Jesus being defecated on by the devil.
Östgöta Correspondenten editor Ola Sigvardsson has received several death threats since the publication of the picture, which featured on posters for a punk festival. The poster depicted a Satan figure defecating on Jesus.
Linköping city council had previously censured the festival poster.
The newspaper published the picture last Saturday and it sparked a vigorous debate on its homepage. On Thursday however the discussions became more threatening and Sigvardsson received the first of several telephone calls involving death threats.
Sigvardsson has, among other things, been threatened with having his throat cut.
"I was mostly confounded," Sigvardsson said.
Sigvardsson admitted that he realized that publishing the picture would be controversial, but he underlined that the censured picture addresses the issue of freedom of speech and it was therefore important to run the story.
He was treated worse than that before He was nailed to the cross.
The South Park dudes did exactly that in their episode with (banned) Mohammed. They did it to show that all speech is permitted except criticism of islam.
I call B.S. on the “threats.” I have serious doubts that any threats were issued by a Christian because of this publication, because a Christian knows that Jesus resides in our hearts and in our souls, and is not a piece of paper.
Mel Gibson's The Passion film, as graphic as it was, wasn't even as bad as it actually was.........
I agree, this is BS. Like the nooses on the door knob. The Muslims can point at the evil Christians now.
Absolutely. And of course we know that this is not a picture of Jesus, since one does not exist. So let them paint. It will be a long, dark night when their laughing stops.
More death threats from the ROP?
They claim that they are similarly outraged about rude depictions of Jesus and Moses.
A muslim may have made the threats just to be able to say, "See, Christians make death threats when their G*d is portrayed wrongly too."
Just what would you want to bet?
I hope the Christians in that area find the person who made that horrible poster and...tell him or her about how much Jesus really loves them and what He did to make them right with God.
This is hideous, but then satan IS hideous.
Unless there is some point to the depiction other than simply trying to provoke outrage, the editor is simply playing the part of a phony martyr.
While certainly the people threatening him are wrong to do so, I have to think he is delighted to get the death threats. And may in fact, be making up or exaggerating the "persecution" that he is "suffering" for expressing his "beliefs".
Give us a break.
That is a sucker's bet. To whatever extent someone denies the Lords admonishment in the holy scripture: "Vengeance is mine" they are neither a Christian nor a Jew.
Sure. Controversial. Sure.
Translation: those Christians won’t give a [defecation] about this. They won’t protest in the streets and threaten to kill me.
Maybe some Christians are finally waking up.
Amazing how all those churches have portraits of “The Zig-Zag Man”
if i said feces happens someone will no doubt be offended
the price of freedom i suppose
