More Manson Family victim's bodies found
Fox news | 16 Mar 08 | nully

Breaking on Fox, no link yet.

This means there are new murders to tie to Charles Manson.

Maybe, just maybe, he can get the death penalty for one or more of these.

Assuming the liberal gods in black robes don't block it again to save him.

After reading the Inyo Register story, let me see if I have this right.

There’s actually no new evidence of anything, other than a few years’ worth of various cadaver dogs pointing to four possible grave sites?

That I don't know. The Register article is over a month old. But according to the lead article in this thread, Fox News is reporting more information:

LOL! Thanks for that bit of humor.

Thanks. I had fun writing it.

Yeah, but by the time I posted it, they ran the actual story, and it didn’t live up to the teaser.

Typical.

A quick run through all of the major news sites (including Fox) indicates to me that there’s nothing here but more speculation and a lot of puffy headlines.

Sorry — didn’t mean to imply that it’s your fault. There’s some crappy journalism in this world, eh?

In 1987, I rode a 5 day endurance horse race in Death Valley, and we rode right up the road past the Barker Ranch. It felt spooky then, and now the hair on my neck is rising again. The air all around me then just felt weird. Manson is truly a monster, and so are his followers.

Figures. I’ll check with our local news guy who is a friend of mine to see if has updates on this story.

Manson was arrested in Inyo County in 1969.

I knew the Inyo County prosecutor at that time, Buck Gibbons, quite well. He was at the Baker Ranch when Manson was first arrested and was taken to the Inyo County jail before being sent to Los Angeles for prosecution.

No offense taken, I just wanted to be sure that no one thought actual bodies had yet been discovered.

I’ve been to Barker Ranch. We did the Goler Wash 4wd trip (through Ballarat & all). It’s beautiful scenery, but it was sad there. The house was like a little living museum. There’s a guest book where people add their thoughts & experiences — like “it snowed last night but I stayed in a tent in the front yard. couldn’t bring myself to sleep inside.” That kind of thing.

We were amazed that anybody actually got a full sized school bus up that wash!

From the AP article via Fox that I linked here it appears the investigative team found very strong indications of buried remains. They first used dogs trained to find human remains, then senior researchers from Tennessee's Oak Ridge National Laboratory used a machine to detect fluorinated hydrocarbon compounds, one of the approximately 400 types of volatile organic compounds emitted by human bodies during decomposition. After that they used a ground probe to detect disturbed ground, then an IR. An archeologist also used Ground Penetrating Radar and a magnetometer — an instrument that can peer 12 feet into the ground — in archaeological work and to help find burial sites. He did a grid search. So it was sounded like a pretty exhaustive investigation. There next step is to dig in the possible grave sites for bones.

And the results of just-completed followup tests suggest bodies could indeed be lying beneath the parched ground. The test findings — described in detail to The Associated Press, which had accompanied the site search — conclude there are two likely clandestine grave sites at Barker Ranch, and one additional site that merits further investigation.

Wow! I didn’t mean to stir up all this drama!

I was being facetious.

If I recall, he was Sentenced to death and was serving his time on death row but California abolished the Death penalty in ‘73 and his sentence was converted to life.
