LIVE THREAD - Under Pressure, Obama Prepares for Race and Unity Speech
Fox News ^ | 18 March 2008

Posted on 03/18/2008 6:12:13 AM PDT by SE Mom

Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major address Tuesday on race, politics and unifying the country after being hounded by questions about his relationship to a pastor whose sermons have been laced with anti-American invective.

In a speech whose religious significance could compare to one given in December by former GOP presidential hopeful and Mormon Mitt Romney, Obama may be forced to explain the philosophy of the 8,000-strong Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where the Democratic presidential candidate has been a congregant for 20 years.

In announcing the morning address, to be delivered in Philadelphia, Obama would not say specifically what he will discuss, but suggested he wants to cool down the atmosphere after incendiary remarks by his pastor, retired Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., blanketed the airwaves over the past week.

I told you guys he'd be the last black person to run for president.

I don't think he could get re-elected in Illinois now.

“WHY would he allow his children to be agitated to hate?”

There was even a popular term for it... “little, black soldiers”

Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely – just as I’m sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.

Am I the only one here who has never heard commentary like Reverend Wright’s in Church or Synagogue? Much less profanity and hate America political rhetoric. And I’ve got more years in than Obama. Might just be me, but if not I wonder what congregations he visits when traveling.

Nitpicking, but David and Goliath, Moses and Pharaoh, the Christians in the lion’s den, Ezekiel’s field of dry bones, is he talking about Daniel? If so, they need to work on Bible Study more and politics less.

All in all, an OK speech, it will keep supporters on board. And clearly the major issue in the 2008 Presidential campaign is race and racial injustice, perhaps morphed into economic injustice, at least from the Democrat perspective.

President Bush gets crucified when he even MENTIONS anything about faith. This idiot Obama gets applause, and lots of it, even from the MSM.

I see MCCAIN in a landslide at this point. I dreamed last night that MCCAIN looked like Allen Jackson, and it woke me up out of a deep sleep, thinking............. now that would work.

The DBM is too stupid to understand the public at large.

They will praise this racist diatribe and push him for a little bit.

Obama seems to be supporting the sentiment of the Wright hate speech.

next he will advocate sensitivity reeducation camps.

Now Obama is attacking Reagan and Rush.

He just blamed every problem in “black America” on whites. Everyone is free to live where ever they want and where ever they can afford to. Obama is claiming that a black man who gets laid off is worse off than a white man.

And now Obama is telling us that white people harbor the same feelings that blacks do.

Sorry, Obama... my church does not preach racist hatred and insult ANY politicians from the pulpit.

That's your church that does that.

Justifying Wright’s rhetoric by saying he suffered at the hands of legalized racism isn’t going to cut it.
Too many black Americans found success in this nation regardless of racism, and never held a grudge against racists.
Obama is a divider, he still doesn’t understand that life is hard for everyone in this world, and using life’s difficulties as an excuse to harbor rage and hatred only perpetuates the problems black Americans have.

This is an enormous race card play ... talk about divisive!

Maggie, he's played the entire deck - he'll have to hit the preacher up for a new one.
