Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely – just as I’m sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.

Am I the only one here who has never heard commentary like Reverend Wright’s in Church or Synagogue? Much less profanity and hate America political rhetoric. And I’ve got more years in than Obama. Might just be me, but if not I wonder what congregations he visits when traveling.

Nitpicking, but David and Goliath, Moses and Pharaoh, the Christians in the lion’s den, Ezekiel’s field of dry bones, is he talking about Daniel? If so, they need to work on Bible Study more and politics less.

All in all, an OK speech, it will keep supporters on board. And clearly the major issue in the 2008 Presidential campaign is race and racial injustice, perhaps morphed into economic injustice, at least from the Democrat perspective.

At the core of Liberation Theology is the notion that Africans are the true chosen people. By saying that these stories are the stories he was taught to identify with at Trinity is not as warm and fuzzy as it would appear at first glance. Because they are taught to identify with these stories as the one chosen people, and that everybody else has oppressed them and kept them from achieving their rightful place as masters.

No, you are not the only one who has never heard inflammatory comments such as from Dr Wright in the pulpit. I have been to many churches in my life, from the most bland, boring, “white” churches where no one even sings, to somewhat “radical” evangelizing churches, mostly black, where people regularly drop to the floor and start speaking in tongues. I have read about primitive “snake handling” churches and cult churches. None of them ever damned America or claimed such racist bitterness.
