KATHERINE JENERETTE GRADUATES from US ARMY AIRBORNE SCHOOL

katherine jenerette

Former North Myrtle Beach Planning Commissioner, U.S. Army Lieutenant Katherine Jenerette recently graduated from the U.S. Army's Airborne school at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Airborne officers are considered to be among the Army's most valuable combat officers. Every member of the Rangers and Special Forces - two of the Army's most elite corps - is airborne qualified.

Information about the Airborne school states: Throughout the fast-moving course of instruction, mental alertness and physical conditioning are emphasized and Airborne School is designed for those who possess the desire, motivation and courage to join the elite fraternity known as "Paratroopers." It is one of the most physically demanding yet rewarding courses in the US Army. It takes a special kind of person to volunteer for this assignment; someone with an unflinching nerve and a spirit of adventure.

Having successfully survived jump school, Jenerette graduated and was awarded her Airborne wings at a ceremony in Ft. Benning last week. In the military, Airborne wings are a mark of courage, daring and skill.

Jenerette is a U.S. Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War Operation Desert Storm and she has served as a Field Representative for the 1st Congressional District, South Carolina. She currently is a Commissioned Officer serving in the U.S. Army Reserve and as an Army Paratrooper she is assigned to the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, N.C.

It seems so and that's an excellent speech!

This saying is true today...but you and I must sound the wake-up call to a new generation of Americans that Freedom is not Free! We have to make it happen...and each generation has to make it happen...Spread the word and pass the torch of freedom...

Thank you for spreading the word and passing the torch of freedom.

God Bless you and your family!

THANK YOU for your service and giving the young ladies of today a great role model to look up to. Heaven knows they need it.

Thank you for your kind comments - I always thought that you guys from the 'John F. Kennedy School for Wayward Boys' at Bragg were our role models. It's strange how time's have changed; but you all were out there in the front when it was pretty rough to say the least. (My husband's 1st assignment was with 1SFG(SAFASIA) out of Infantry OCS, '72.

Thanks again!

Katherine

I’ll bet she can kick the haughty John Kerry, who served in Viet Nam, around the block.

I could have gone through Airborne training when I was 45 and have made it easily. While this woman may be older than most students, it’s not that big of a deal.

You're probably right; but, I didn't want to wait until I was 45. It was enough of a challenge at the 'tender' age of 39-years old. The woman 'part' does offer certain advantages when it come to the harness; etc. (Ouch!)

Anyway, thanks - I was 6-years old when you went thru Jump School in 1974 and like you - I did have fun at Benning, even during the morning PT runs!

Airborne!

My time was nothing. There are many more who paid a much heavier price.

BTW I still think there is something wrong with jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. I was and still am a lousy chute load. I was well over 200 lbs. when just out of high school - without gear. Made for a fast ride.

Thanks again.

Wonderful words. Your courage and honor are beyond any humble thoughts from me.

I leave you with a quote, that rings true today and always must...
