US 'deploys nuclear sub to Persian Gulf' (lots of activity)
Press TV ^

An American nuclear submarine has crossed the Suez Canal to join the US fleet stationed in the Persian Gulf, Egyptian sources say.

Egyptian officials reported that the nuclear submarine crossed the canal along with a destroyer on Friday and Egyptian forces were put on high alert when the navy convoy was passing through the canal.

An American destroyer recently left the Persian Gulf, heading towards the Mediterranean Sea; earlier Thursday, a US Navy rescue ship crossed the canal to enter the Red Sea.

The deployment comes as recent reports allege that US Vice President Dick Cheney is seeking to rally the support of Middle Eastern states for launching an attack on Iran.

This is while US officials deny that Cheney's Mideast tour is linked to a possible military attack on Iran.

According to the latest reports, in recent months a major part of the US Navy has been deployed in and around the Persian Gulf.

The fleet is armed with nuclear weapons and cruise missiles and carries hundreds of aircraft and rapid reaction forces.

Thanks for helping me feel safe when I was a teenager in the 80’s. We all were afraid of the end of the world as we knew it, but I slept well knowing they would have to be suicidal to try it. Unfortunately, Iran is a useful, suicidal pet of Russia’s. I say, Iran uses nukes on the ME and we hold Russia accountable. Four cities to each of our cities or Israel’s. Russia wants to keep causing global mayhem until the big one? Time to bring back LOT’s of MX missles :)

The Lib run government will do nothing and tell us we deserved it by being so mean the last 50 years. It won’t happen until we are so weak we are all all nuked by Russia and as all our missles fly toward them the Lib’s will be saving diaries of how it was all Bush’s fault so future Lib’s can be created out of the ashes.

["Nothing will be done about Iran until one or more US cities are taken out by nuclear explosions."]

Isn't it clear that Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapons program? They are enriching uranium for peaceful purposes.

Noone in their sane mind would drive a boomer into the Gulf. They can just about hit any point on the planent from any other point. Why put them in the small waters of the Persian Gulf and expose them to threats ? It’s an attack boat, and it’s just a show of strength.

I agree 100%. Our story has never been told here in Iraq. Yesterday, (I will probably get checked for this) my friend was wounded, but, we tool out 12 of their best trained. These bad men were trained by Iranian (special) forces. They threw everything at us, and died in the process. It is NOT if we take out Iranian nuke sites, it is only WHEN. If we don't, Israel certainly will. Either way, the phony libs will always complain about it.

No worries. I remember seeing that thing in Sandy Eggo. Weird kinda boat, actually. Then again, I never saw NR-1.,p> Actually, I had the privilege to 'tour' NR-1 at EB while I was PCU putting Seahorse into commission. 'Tour' being a relative term, of course! It was like a walk-through of a long skinny RV.

As a nuke, what rang my bell was the reactor; it was roughly the size of a large trashcan.

Happens about once every six months or therebouts, I'd imagine. The last Med run I did before I got out was with Montpelier.

Mather AFB 1981-84.

I grew up in the Florin area watching your B52's flying low over my house. Nothing cooler than 8 engines roaring loud as thunder and carrying certain destruction for those that would cause us harm.

They’re all nuclear submarines - unless we still have some diesels in active service.

They retired the last diesel boat, the USS Blueback, the day after I retired (on 1 October 1990).

I guess they figured that there was no one left to be able to run it after I left.

Let me clarify...I meant real submarines, not DSRVs.
