Iran 'behind Green Zone attack'
BBC ^ | March 24, 2008 | BBC

The most senior US general in Iraq has said he has evidence that Iran was behind Sunday's bombardment of Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone. Gen David Petraeus told the BBC he thought Tehran had trained, equipped and funded insurgents who fired the barrage of mortars and rockets.

He said Iran was adding what he described as "lethal accelerants" to a very combustible mix.

...

In an interview with BBC world affairs editor John Simpson, Gen Petraeus said violence in Iraq was being perpetuated by Iran's Quds Force, a branch of the Revolutionary Guards.

"The rockets that were launched at the Green Zone yesterday, for example... were Iranian-provided, Iranian-made rockets," he said, adding that the groups that fired them were funded and trained by the Quds Force.

"All of this in complete violation of promises made by President Ahmadinejad and the other most senior Iranian leaders to their Iraqi counterparts."

The barrage hit the Green Zone on Sunday morning. Some rockets missed their targets killing 15 Iraqi civilians.

Sooner or later, and I am thinking about July, we are going to have to address Imanutjob and his cohorts and say......”The next sound you hear will be your elbow going through your a**hole.”

Shrapnel and trail of smoke behind the rockets should suffice.

I kinda guessed Iran would be doing something like this, and any attacks against our troops and allies

I think we should just respond in kind. Let’s find or create opposition groups in Iran and fund, train and equip them. It’s worked in other places and if nothing else it will give us one hell of a bargaining chip.

George, isn't it about time to answer Iran's lethal attacks against our troops with something more than words?

there, I said that with uncharacteristic understatement!

With the tiny assumption the allegation is true, we have a clear, Iranian government-initiated and -sponsored Act of War against the U.S., Iraq and the coalition.

There seems to be only one appropriate response: fight back in such a way as to eliminate even the possibility that Iran could ever do it again.

The generals should get ROE's sufficient broad to let them do what needs to be done with or without Bush's OK.

After all, every other agency follows its own policy (the CIA leaks to case political damage to Bush, State negotiates with and pays terorists, etc.). Why shouldn't the military have its own policy, when it's the only agency not working with our enemies and actively defending the US?

LOL - it's kind of sad that I've been here so long I can tell the difference between the sounds of mortars, rockets, IEDs and VBIEDs, gauge the distance and be able to identify whether an attack is al Qaeda scum or Iran-backed vermin.

It's time for me to come home. :)

Well, they’re in for it now. We will be forced to watch them. And then we’ll watch them some more. Then the talks will start and we’ll talk and watch them some more. After that, they’ll get watched and talked to again. Even again if necessary. As a last resort, we will talk to them and watch them.
