President Bush when Governor pulled the switch on plenty of Hispanic prisoners but once he became President he was obligated by “International Law” written years ago to make sure foreign nationals got their visitors. This is actually a good thing the lawsuit was between Feds and State because it sets undeniable precedence.

As far as I understand it, Medellin had been here since he was a baby—born in Mexico, but raised here. At the time of arrest, the police had no reason to suspect that he wasn’t a citizen.

Worse, where does he stand with wrongfully coinvicted Border Patrol Officers who kill scum drug dealers in the line of duty but get incarcerated anyway? Medellin did not raise the lack of assistance from Mexican diplomats during his trial or sentencing. When he did claim his rights had been violated, Texas and federal courts turned him down because he had not objected at his trial. Mexico later sued the United States in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, on behalf of Medellin and 50 other Mexicans on death row in the U.S.

If the ruling had gone against Texas and I were the governor, the Texas Rangers would have rounded up as many illegals as possible; i.e., thousands, and forced them into the front door of the Mexican consulate. I would have demanded full consular paperwork on each individual and Mexico provides transportation to the border.

Thanks for posting that link. I had never read about it before and wasn’t aware of the case. All I knew was that Bush didn’t want any Mexicans put to death. I am so sick of that man. I can’t wait for his term to end! He thinks it’s OK for Mexicans to murder American girls/women after they brutally rape and sodomize them, but we can’t execute the Mexicans who commit the crimes? Unbelievable! I’m even more happy that the USSC is going to let Texas execute them now!
