I know that I am not watching them. This again was a monumental mistake to award them the games. When they change their ways then & only then should they get them. What butt kissers we are to these Chi-Coms.

I don't agree. We're talking about a country that doesn't give its people freedom to speak their minds, to worship, to assembly peaceably and to change their rulers. Chinese nationalism isn't the issue. True Chinese understand the Party doesn't represent the Chinese people.
Short of us invading China, how do you think anything will change in China? While I agree with you fully on China's faults, nothing is going to change unless the Chinese middle class grows, and overthrows or reforms their government themselves. And that's not going to happen if we boycott the Olympics or stop trade with the Chinese. When the rights of a sizable Chinese middle class get infringed upon, that's when real change will occur in China. Otherwise it's just useless PR posturing on our part, something the Dems are particularly fond in.
The Chinese middle class is growing (rapidly), it just hasn't reached critical mass yet in a country of 1.3 billion people.

You’re almost correct. She won all three, the bronze, silver, and gold.
No one was foolish enough to try competing with her.
She also won the broad jumping medals.

The truth is that those young people in China are much more pro-Western because of exposure to the world via the high tech and the internet.

Makes you wonder if Bush doesn’t go if she will show up at the last second trying to get brownie points for some pretend peace mission she will say she is on.

If he didn’t go, it wouldn’t be because she said so. Maybe he’ll send Billy Jeff.

Is this her best effort at foreign relations? Has anyone ever told her just what the Olympics stands for and that it transcends politics in individual countries?

Chinese middle class growing will have little effect politically, any more than all the economic gains in Germany weakened the Nazis.
The only thing the Chinese people have been conditioned to respect is power. And an international boycott of the Olympics will severely weaken their perceived strength in the eyes of the people, and that’s what’s needed to bring down the regime.
Sure, a boycott will light some nationalism fuses, but the first thing that fire will want to burn is not foreigners, but the ineffective leadership that caused the nation to lose face.

> Hillary was in the Olympics once, wasnt she? Didnt she win a bronze medal for the 100-yard lie?
Hillary was in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, as a Gymnast. She won Gold for that... umm... flop-floppy event — you know the one. And the Equestrian event: she and her rider won gold, too. Target shooting — you guessed it, Gold again. She was the only competitor who managed to duck all the bullets to score a perfect 10.

It would not suprise me if the young people of China are very much supportive of the pro-freedom efforts in their own way.

Has she offered to return all the money the Chinese contributed to Bill’s campaigns and library? Bill is planning a trip to China soon...not sure of the dates...so she’s probably trying to get the president not to attend the Olympic games because it would take away all the attention from him. For “the smartest woman in the world” she’s unbelievably stupid and definitely has a tin ear when it comes to politics.
