What he should be worrying about are the criminals getting the run of the city!
“the law is already in the hands of the people. The people have deputized the police to enforce the law”
Well put! Short enough to be a good sound-bite and clear enough to be understood; you should get yourself interviewed on CNN about gun rights!
The only problem I see here is that they didn’t kill the two robbers.
Who, after all, does it really belong to?
In the twisted, demensia of big city liberals, self-defense is labeled “vigilantism”. I’m sure he’s the type that would insist that rape victims not arm themselves and fight back, but just enjoy it. No wonder Oakland is such a putrid cesspool of human waste.
Actually, that is the best plan for Oakland’s renewal I’ve ever heard. Vaporize and re-colonize. Nice thinking.
how can things get out of hand? once all the criminals are dead things will quiet right down...

There is an interesting history series on cable called “The Real West” if memory serves. David Carradine used to host it and there were spots done by historians who specialized in the wild west era. I found it interesting that one of them said that yes, there were real guntoting badguys but they stayed mainly on their own side of the cowtowns and a woman walking alone on the street was safer than in any town today. The reason given was that any tough who bothered a woman or a child knew that his bones would be resting in the cemetery before another sunset. There were civil war vets in those towns and they would not sit idly by.
If folks defending themselves can be labeled vigilantes, what name do they give to someone who enters a place of business and demands a portion of your earnings?
Unauthorized tax collector?
“If you choose to defend yourself you’re a vigilante, according to the Deputy Police Chief. “
What a turd.
P.S. The Chief, not you.
With a name like yours, you should avoid Oakland ;^)
Yep. Because if the police will not take the law into their hands, we'll take it into ours. Note to Oakland cops: do your f***ing jobs so we don't have to.
No problem. Califiornia citizens can put citizen initiative measures on their state ballots, right?
How about: In those cities, coiunties or other political jurisdictions within the State of California in which citizens cannot carry a concealed weapon, no retired police officer nor any member of a police officer's family may carry a concealed weapon, nor may any public retirement fund monies be paid to any retired police officer or elected or appointed public officer of that jurisdiction.
You can call it *Proposition .45*.
and followed it up with Ron “Red” Dellums.
Too much of our leadership has seen too many movies. Of course the politicians rather deal with a fearful public. A confidant, assertive public is a pain in the a**.
I will put it on the TIVO wish list if it ever comes back on again.
