Oakland has some great bars and restaurants. One place (damn--forgot the name of the place) is a big wear house near the harbor, very blue collar with pool tables and good chowder, plus Anchor Steam Beer on tap.
I hate it when a town with so many attributes gets a bad rap.

RonF - yours IS an excellent definition (vigilantism vs self-defense).

Oakland PD is RIGHT to be worried.

D-Ron Dellums doesn't do anything. Former Mayor Moonbeam Brown tried, and found he could get anything accomplished because of "special interests" within and from outside the Mayor's office.

Oakland is home to Your Black Muslim Bakery. For one.

Two: More and more folks will be getting their guns blackmarket -- as most cities in CA have worked hard to ban "guns" from their cities. Some Democrats have gone so far as to require CA'er get FINGERPRINTED just to buy ammo.

As more folks buy guns via the "underground", guarantee-you, more homes will be broken into.

The SF Bay area has seen this operation way too many times, and the press doesn't like to talk about it much.

Buy a gun off the black market. Those who sold it to you have "pals". Your home gets broken into, guns (and jewelry, etc.) get stolen, your homeowners insurance rates go up, etc., ad nauseum. But you can't make a claim on your guns -- remember, they've not been "registered" and so they don't exist, and if they do exist, you get penalized for owning an unlicensed "gun".

The Guns go back onto the streets: repeat scenario; newer gang. And before you know it -- we've got gangland turf wars. Just like what goes on in LA.

Oakland, and for that matter SFPD could do their jobs, and do it just fine if the liberal/Dem Politicians could get their damned global warming and preening out of the damned way.

And the Democrat solution is "gun control". What happens with the Democrat implementation of gun control? Exactly what I've described above.

Here is a thought. Stop robbing stores for a living and there will not be vigilante’s in action.

I used to donate to the police (FOP) occasionally until I realized the police leadership would prefer that citizens be unarmed.

Just stay away from 14th street. It runs thru town N/S and is where most if the action is, but it's been like that since the mid 70's when gangs had evolved into something more sinister than Sharks and Jets.

The same creedo applies today -
"When your a Jet
your a Jet all the way
from your first cigarette
to your last dying day"

Yes, Oakland is such a nice town to visit. My brother lives in the east Oakland Hills; on a clear Friday night in August I can sit on his balconey and hear occasional gun shots from the city below. There are places in that town where police presence is almost nil at certain times of the week. The new mayor, Ron Dellums, sixties radical cum commie, like the mayor before him (Jerry Moonbeam Brown) is powerless to do anything but deny citizens the right to self protection. I am aware that only two CCW’s were issued in Oakland: the former mayor’s bodyguard and that other paragon of virtue, the dishonorable Don Perata, president of the Cal Senate, author of California’s Draconian AR/AK ban. Democrats are tyrants.

Thanks for reminding me... anti-gun Don Perata who shot down every pro-2nd amendment initiative we put forward.

Did you know, Mr. Conceal'NCarry Perata was in a government-issued car one day driving down the yellow brick road, when a thug stopped him, pulled him out of the car, and drove away with Mr. Conceal'N Carry Perata's government issued car?

Mere months ago this happened.

Self-defense is not vigilantism.

And police no longer are employed to protect and serve. They serve the State to bring in revenue.

"That's a concern that law enforcement has all the time, that people will engage in vigilantism," said Kozicki.

Dear Officer Kozicki, f*** you. Vigilantism would be when the utterly fed up citizens of Oakland push you aside and administer justice to the scum that attack them constantly. This is just self defense.

Seems to me that the Chief should be concerned about the public’s shooting skills. In both cases the perp survived, thus indicating a severe menace in that critical resources are being wasted keeping wounded perps alive in hospitals that could otherwise serve law abiding citizens.

If you choose to defend yourself you're a vigilante, according to the Deputy Police Chief.

And this illiterate bastard is a deputy police chief.
