THE EXPLOSION (Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers loses his girlfriend when the brownstone explodes)
crimelibrary.com ^ | Mark Gado

Posted on 04/26/2008 11:43:11 AM PDT by doug from upland

First, some excerpts from the NY SLIMES --- ''I don't regret setting bombs,'' Bill Ayers said. ''I feel we didn't do enough.''

Mr. Ayers is probably safe from prosecution anyway. A spokeswoman for the Justice Department said there was a five-year statute of limitations on Federal crimes except in cases of murder or when a person has been indicted.

Mr. Ayers, who in 1970 was said to have summed up the Weatherman philosophy as: ''Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at,'' is today distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. And he says he doesn't actually remember suggesting that rich people be killed or that people kill their parents, but ''it's been quoted so many times I'm beginning to think I did,'' he said. ''It was a joke about the distribution of wealth.''

He went underground in 1970, after his girlfriend, Diana Oughton, and two other people were killed when bombs they were making exploded in a Greenwich Village town house. With him in the Weather Underground was Bernardine Dohrn, who was put on the F.B.I.'s 10 Most Wanted List. J. Edgar Hoover called her ''the most dangerous woman in America'' and ''la Pasionara of the Lunatic Left.'' Mr. Ayers and Ms. Dohrn later married.

THE EXPLOSION

Brownstones stand like soldiers in a row on tree-lined West Eleventh Street in lower Manhattan. Many were built at the turn of the century when pride in workmanship still prevailed in the building trades. Eleventh Street is just three blocks north of famed Washington Square Park, once a public execution ground in the 19th century, and extends west through Greenwich Village, past historic Hudson and Bleecker Streets, ending finally at West Street on the shore of the Hudson River.

A long line of artists, writers, actors, musicians and celebrities of every manner and fashion has called this area home. Herman Melville and Walt Whitman once lived here. And Edgar Allen Poe wrote The Raven when he lived in a boarding house on Greenwich Street in 1844. The great "Satchmo" played the blues here from time to time and Sara Vaughn often performed in Village jazz clubs, along with Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, "Cannonball" Adderly, Monk and Miles Davis.

On March 6, 1970 at 11:55 a.m., Susan Wager, former wife of film actor Henry Fonda, was in her basement at 50 West Eleventh Street with her housekeeper sorting her laundry. A few minutes before noon, she heard a tremendous explosion outside her building. "We both looked at each otheryou could feel it, a real quaver ran through the ground," she later told reporters.

Immediately, she heard two more rapid-fire explosions. Mrs. Wager hurried up the steps and out into the street. She saw that the explosions came from building number eighteen. As she ran down the block, Mrs. Wager saw the flames blowing out the front windows of the townhouse. There was concrete debris lying on the sidewalk and large pieces of the townhouse on the tops of parked cars. In the doorway, she saw a "red, incandescent glow, more scary than flames" emanate from inside the 1st floor hallway.

It was then she took notice of two girls that staggered out of the burning townhouse and into the street. One girl was wearing blue jeans. The other was completely naked. The explosion had burned the clothes off her body. Mrs. Wager thought they were both around twenty years old. The girls were dazed and covered with soot and ash but they did not appear to be seriously injured.

A large chunk of the building façade then crashed to the street just feet from where the girls were standing. Both victims were trembling and appeared to be in shock. Mrs. Wager took them over to her house, just yards away and brought them into her living room. She took them upstairs to a bathroom and gave them some clothes to wear.

Mrs. Wager then went downstairs, told the housekeeper to make some coffee and went back outside to look for more victims. When she reached the building at 18 West Eleventh, it was fully engulfed with flames. Residents were outside on the street and sirens could be heard in the distance. Within minutes, the fire apparatus was pulling into Eleventh Street from Fifth Avenue. The fire was roaring and neighbors were evacuating the block. Mrs. Wager then went back to her home to check on the two girls.

When she entered her living room, her housekeeper said the girls were gone. "Well the girls have left, they were going to the drugstore to get some medicine," she said. Mrs. Wager thought that was odd.

Meanwhile, the fire consumed the townhouse as gas lines exploded and windows shattered into the street. But firefighters were able to get hoses on the inferno quickly and soon, it was brought under control. In the early evening, a man's body was found in the basement and a short time later, a woman's torso was discovered on the first floor. Police also found several handbags with personal identifications that were stolen from college students over the previous few months. Late that same night, cops located at least 60 sticks of dynamite, a live military antitank shell, blasting caps and several large metal pipes packed solid with explosives. Neighbors, including actor Dustin Hoffman, who lived next door, began leaving in droves.

The dead man was later identified as 23-year-old Theodore Gold, a leader of a student strike at Columbia University in 1968. He was a member of the Weathermen, a radical group of college students who believed that the only way to change America was through confrontation and violence. The dead girl, whose body was horribly mangled by the powerful blast, was eventually identified as Diana Oughton, another former college student. Seven days later, police managed to locate another dismembered body of a male. His identity remained a mystery until the Weathermen later claimed it was Terry Robbins, one of their own members.

James P. Wilkerson, a radio station owner from the Midwest, owned the townhouse. His daughter, Catherine Wilkerson, 25, was also a known member of the Weathermen. She was currently out on $40,000 bail on assault charges in Chicago where she struck a police officer with a club during a political demonstration. A close friend of Catherine's, a girl named Kathy Boudin, was staying with her at the time of the blast. Boudin, too, was out on $20,000 bail on similar charges in Chicago. Neither of the girls could be located. Police soon speculated that the town home was being used as a bomb factory and the occupants were probably assembling bombs when something went very wrong.

But it was just speculation. Only those inside the house could say for sure. Three were already dead and the two girls who had fled from the house after the explosion could not be found. One of the girls was identified through photographs as Cathy Wilkerson. Police were almost certain that the other girl who disappeared was Kathy Boudin.

The Christopher Street NAMBLA reference above now makes sense. The ACLU defends pedophiles, including NAMBLA. Ayers wife is an ACLU lawyer. Christopher Street is quite near the WeatherUnderground bomb making factory.

These people are running loose!

~~~~~ and there's more ~~~~~ Then the Democrat Governor of NJ was gay and he got busted, and the Democrat Governor of NY was into super expensive prostitutes and he got busted, and then there's the Democrat Governor of Massachusetts, and one of his top aids was arrested in December 2007 for homosexual assault against a young boy...... ~~~~ and that particular aid has been one of Deval Patrick's good buddies for years.
Then Deval Patrick, who appoints pedophiles to high places, shares a Communist speech writer with Obama, and he's running for President and he got his political start through the good services of this guy whose girlfriend blew herself up with a bomb (and maybe he helped) but his current wife is an ACLU lawyer who defends NAMBLA.
Gad are these people smarmy.
Do you think Michelle knows about all this stuff?
Or was she maybe simply "assigned" to Obama by the Reverend Wright to act like she was his wife.
So many possibilities with these connections.
A sad and pitiful sidelight for anyone who doesn’t already know — Kathy Boudin had an infant son at the time she went to jail for the murderous Brinks robbery, Chesa Boudin. He was then raised by Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn to carry on the next generation of communist revolution. So far he seems to have stayed out of terrorist activities (so far as we know) but he is a fervent propagandist for the cause. He has even written a book proclaiming the greatness of Hugo Chavez. Somehow he was awarded a prestigious Rhodes scholarship, by a committee headed by a U. of Chicago Prof. of ConLaw, which makes me very curious about the interralationships of that guy with Obama, Dohrn, and Ayers:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_108950.html
Chesa Boudin has said of the activities of his four parents, “We have a different name for the war we’re fighting now. Now we call it the war on terrorism; then they called it the war on communism. My parents were all dedicated to fighting U.S. imperialism around the world. I’m dedicated to the same thing.”
People should look through that whole thread. There are quite a number of member’s names and friends of listed. Lots of things make more sense when the connections are seen.
OK, who thinks he isn't trying to indoctrinate every malleable little mind he can?
That's exactly what he's doing: "bringing the revolution out of the streets and into the classroom."
The Ed Schools’ Latest—and Worst—Humbug
Teaching social justice "“to transcend the negative effects of the dominant culture,” and "a critical race theory approach, based on the idea that institutionalized “white supremacy” remains pervasive in American public education."
The sea in which Obama has swum all his life -- but to point that out would be, of course, "racist."
It looks like Chesa Boudin has chosen to align himself with the enemies of America. He’s probably a big Obama supporter.
There is an excellent, well written piece of emphasis on that in this press release from the March 8th Times Square protest. There was also a message board we were all following excerpted below it:
http://blog.newyorkcitycommunity.us/2008/03/06/gathering-of-eagles-times-square-march-8.aspx
For immediate release: TIMES SQUARE March 8
The Gathering of Eagles, a patriotic organization dedicated to the public support of all Military persons, active duty or veteran, announces a patriotic rally in front of the Times Square Recruiting Station in New York City, NY on March 8 from 1PM to 4PM.
The Police have allowed us a rally at the Times Square Recruiting Station Island, 43rd Street and Broadway, to hold a patriotic rally as a show of encouragement for our troops and our recruiters in New York City.
The action of trying to destroy public property and place the lives and safety of Americans in jeopardy just to make a political point must be answered with the firmest response from Patriotic Americans. In times past, these actions were considered abnormal and best ignored. The actions and national responses to the bombings and protests of the 1960’s and early 1970’s and the failure of Americans to rise up and demand an accounting of those who engage in criminal acts under the false banner of FREE SPEECH led to a national embarrassment at the end of the Vietnam War, and eventually to a Military pullout and subsequent deaths of a Million People when the North Vietnamese broke the Paris Peace Accord treaty and invaded South Vietnam in 1975.
This criminal action against the recruiting station in Times Square has the potential of leading a national downturn in the minds of those who disagree with the war.
It is imperative that Patriotic Americans demand a show of force by law enforcement and Patriotic Groups in calling these acts what they are: cowardice and criminal.
Please direct all media questions to: James Bancroft (860)516-8912
If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves. WINSTON CHURCHILL
***************************************************************************************
I want you to read what Jame Bancroft wrote again in his above press release, please.
Now, below I have pasted chatter of this event from an anti war/lefty message board. If any press people or investigative type people want the URLs of these messages, I will gladly provide them. I don’t want the URLs on my blog though so I’m omitting them.
This is how they view the bombing of the recruiting station and they are calling for more events:
More results of the bomb blast
I got into work this morning and someone was playing the radio. Bloomberg was giving a speech about how our armed forces were protecting us, and protecting our
AmeriKKKan freedoms and so forth. After the billionaire finished his propaganda statements via the corporate conrolled radio station, pig commissioner Kelly came on and I then perked up. He was looking for rats to come forward and finger the male (according to them) who early this morning placed a bomb at the Times Square Armed Forces recruiting statement and who then buzzed away on his bicycle.
News also reports that the police began stopping cars around New York and questioning the drivers...no, I am just kidding. The news does actually report that police began stopping those beatnik, gas-hating people riding bicycles this morning and questioning them.
Unlike the bombs the US Armed Forces drops on brown people around the world, this bomb hurt no one. It just makes our Keystone Kops and the “FBI New York Joint Terrorism Task Force” look silly, incompetent and impotent. The boys in blue will be scratching their heads and downing their donuts trying to crack this caper for some time to come I’m sure.
It was ONE station in ONE city and got minimal coverage.. And the coverage it did get was places next to what’s happening with insugency in Iraq. This paired along with the arrest of the fellow in AZ with ricin or whatever... Does this help or hurt? I will suffice to say remember the Paris commune.
I agree, property distruction is not violence, but please- if you are going to destroy I just hope your doing more then traveling around the country in box cars. Community devopment needs good heads. We need people working with youth and creating sustainable co-ops to do it- transience doesn’t help. Prostesting doesn’t help.
Community development does, talking to your neighbors and organizing in your primary area and maintaining relationships does.
Wonder how much corporate media coverage the M19-20 protests will get?
Meanwhile, loose lips sink ships.
Times Square Recruit Station was an anniversary hit.
Thirty-Eight Years Ago Today
March 6, 1970 at 11:55 a.m.
Three members of the radical activist group known as the Weather Underground, Diana Oughton, Ted Gold and Terry Robbins, blew themselves straight to hell when the bomb they were building, which was intended to blow up a dance at Fort Dix, exploded in an otherwise quiet New York neighborhood.
Had they been better bomb-makers, instead of killing themselves, they would have killed an untold number of American soldiers. In the name of peace.
Luckily, the Weathermen’s expertise at bomb-making left much to be desired.
The Weathermen’s hatred of the United States manifested itself in the bombings of the U.S. Capitol building, New York City Police Headquarters, the Pentagon, and the National Guard offices in Washington, D.C. The Weathermen’s leader, Bill Ayers summed up the Weathermen’s ideology as follows: “Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, Kill your parents.”
The Weathermen were radicals. They wanted their people to get involved, demonstrate, get arrested and force change down the throat of the “establishment.” They fought at the Democratic Presidential Convention in 1968 and converged in Chicago in 1969 for an event that came to be known as “Days of Rage.” The more violent extremists during that era were responsible for a score of bombings in places like Harvard University, various corporate headquarters and a number of government institutions. They praised Charles Manson and freed Dr. Timothy Leary from prison. Wherever there was violence and chaos in the name of dissent, the Weathermen were there.
Meet Bernadine Dohrn, leader of the Weather Underground:
At a “War Council” in Flint, Michigan in 1969, their leader Bernardine Dohrn praised the serial murderer Charles Manson: “Dig it. First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them. They even shoved a fork into the victim’s stomach. Wild.” She then proclaimed that the time had come to launch the war against “Amerikkka” (the Weathermen always spelled America this way) and to form a Weather Underground to carry out terrorist activities.
The Weathermen claimed credit for 25 bombings over the next several years. They set bombs at the rebuilt Haymarket statue; a bathroom at the Pentagon; the Capitol barber shop; the New York City police headquarters; and a variety of other targets.
Dohrn’s husband, Bill Ayers confessed that the bomb that killed the aforementioned Weather Underground members in New York was an anti-personnel weapon filled with nails and screws that would have killed or injured many at the Fort Dix dance. Ayers has recently, publicly acknowledged his feeling that his group should, in his opinion, have set off even more bombs.
For those of you who might be wondering where the rest of the Weathermen are, you need only look to our Universities, Bar Associations, and, the ACLU.
The unrepentant Dohrn is currently a law professor at Northwestern University. She also serves on the Board of the American Civil Liberties Union and committees of the American Bar Association. Her husband, and co-leader of the Weathermen Bill Ayers, is now Professor of Education at the University of Illinois. Teaching our children. Dig it.
Dohrn, Ayers and other members of the Weather Underground are currently under investigation in connection with a police officer killed by a bomb in 1970.
If they are indicted, they will likely have an easy time finding a lawyer since Ramsey Clark is no longer busy in Iraq, and Lynne Stewart, who has represented other members of the Weather Underground, received only a slap on the hand after her conviction for helping terrorists by smuggling messages of violence from one of her imprisoned clients — the radical Egyptian sheik behind the 1993 WTC Bombing— to his terrorist disciples on the outside.
Oh, and by the way... Weather Underground member Susan Rosenberg, implicated in the Nyack robbery, and Linda Evans, at different times wanted on a number of criminal charges, were apprehended carrying 740 pounds of explosives in 1985. Both acknowledged that the explosives were to be used to carry out additional bombings. Rosenberg was given 58 years in prison, Evans 40.
President Bill Clinton pardoned both women.
If Chesa was raised by Ayers and Dohrn, we have a good demonstration of their parenting skills.
I've heard this guy interviewed on the radio, concerning the Chavez book. He's dumb as a box of rocks -- bordering on incoherent.
I suspect a history of heavy ingestion of recreational drugs.
I believe Dohrn was involved in the Brinks robbery too--connected with the purchase of the weapon(s) under a false name. She was probably offered a plea bargain to testify against others and said no. She and Ayers were married while she was still in prison.
There is footage of her screaming at the Chicago convention (I believe), "We're gonna take over this country!" possibly hoping all the closet revolutionaries would come out of hiding. This was shown on the news when she and Ayers turned themselves in.
"I've heard this guy interviewed on the radio, concerning the Chavez book. He's dumb as a box of rocks -- bordering on incoherent."
That makes me even more suspicious of how he managed to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. About 1,000 of the top students in the country apply and only 32 scholarships are awarded. You don't necessarily have to be a straight-A student, they do put a big premium on "leadership" and "character".... I know someone who was on one of the state nominating committees for a long time (each state gets to nominate two candidates), and they are supposed to emphasize potential for positive leadership in the community -- but that makes it even more dubious that a scummy little red diaper apologist for terrorists was selected by a committee headed by a U. Chicago academic who was probably in the Obama-Ayers-Dohrn circles.... how did that happen?
Ayers wife is an ACLU lawyer. She was also one of the biggest bombers and killers in the terrorist organization. She as I understand did serve time in jail because she would not testify against one of the bank robber killers, not because she was a killer herself.
"did serve time in jail because she would not testify against one of the bank robber killers, not because she was a killer herself"
But it's pretty clear she was an accessory, and part of the conspiracy of terrorists..... the problem was gathering evidence (LEGALLY) against such a tight-knit band of terrorist fanatics. There's been stuff recently on how Dohrn apparently stole identities of a couple of women from her store on Broadway (NYC) that provided 'cover' IDs and drivers' licenses for participants in the robberies/murders. Accessory to armed robbery and multi-murder is still extremely serious legally, but it was difficult to get the evidence agains these excremental fanatics.
Dohrn should have been kept in jail forever unless/until she testified -- but she outlasted the Grand Jury and/or some prosecutor folded. I'd like to see these Weatherfreak scumbags waterboarded now until they talk -- surely there's much they could reveal about the domestic TERRORISM they perpetrated on this country, the many innocent victims of their crimes, the many orphans they created, etc.
