The bottom line is that it is all rooted in western “call and response”
Classic is a live and well. The instrumentation has changed and public tastes change, but the basic formula remains the same

Nope. I’ll leave that to the elitist snobs... who then wonder where all the classical music is going...

OK, what's changed is the quantity (there is more of it), and delivery mechanisms (there is more of it everywhere), only the quality hasn't changed.

Puccini and many others were thrashed for “messing with the sound”
Puccini was dismissed as doing soap operas of the day

Its always been about selling what is hot.
But, my argument is that despite the fads and fancies the basic formula is still popular.

I believe I have over 40 digital HD music channels
Digital, Dolby, Stereo through 2 (6) speaker boxes on the right and 3 (8) speaker boxes on the left and 2 in the center
Be careful or I’ll crank up the volume on the Marantz amp!

Hm... So 90% of everything played on a classical radio station *must* be crap. Yup, truth.

Classical music is alive and well and finds new audiences all the time AND modern rock and roll, all modern music.. is based on the call and response pattern of western classical composition
Hmmm...

I think the quality has changed to its detriment.
