Catholics are very suspicious about dealing with the LDS - they are taking alot of the RCC members away.

the Vatican had "grave reservations" about the LDS Church's practice of posthumous baptisms by proxy, a practice in which the names of the deceased are baptized into the LDS faith so that they may be united in the afterlife with LDS families, if they so choose.

Once a person dies they are judged by God. Either they are adjudged as righteous or not. It has nothing to do with what someone may do later (posthumous baptisms, etc).

As a thought experiment, if the posthumous baptisms worked, one LDS sect could baptize person A allowing him to be in the afterlife with LDS family B. But then a competing LDS sect could later baptize person A. But if the second sect is anathema to the first, person A might suddenly be no longer able to be in the afterlife with LDS family B.

The Vatican needs to look at its own scriptures and doctrine for assurance that such things are meaningless to God.

Wow. I was able to trace my ancestry to Ireland because of LDS microfilm of an old Catholic baptismal registry.

I’m a bit surprised that to learn that Rome is just getting around to this action.

I was reading about these things almost 35 years ago. I suppose that I always assumed that it was old news and standard practice.

"My parents better not be on their friggin list."

Everybody is on the lists.

The LDS has the most extensive genealogical records in the world.

Noooooooooo, not at all - LDS aren’t even trinitarianists. My theory is that only “weak” Catholics can be recruited.

I for one don’t want to get in the middle of a fight between Catholics and Mormons. As an amateur genealogist I’ve enjoyed using the LDS data, and I’m sorry it won’t be available.
