Posted on 05/07/2008 1:58:52 PM PDT by T.L.Sink
Supervisor says county spends more than $1 billion a year on benefits to illegals. According to new data from the Department of Public Services, nearly a quarter of Los Angeles County's welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to the children of illegal aliens, at a cost of $36 million a month. "The total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year - NOT including the millions of dollars for education," said Antonovich. "With $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $432 million in welfare allocations, illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers." In March, illegals collected over $10 million in welfare assistance and $16 million in food stamp allocations.

And California keeps wondering why it is broke....
If someone finds the meat behind this story, please post it as a new thread (and in its entirety). This can be thrown in the face of a whole lot of politicians, if true.
Coming to the rest of the country soon, folks. Hang on to what’s left of your paychecks.
And wasn’t there a report yesterday that CA is in the hole money-wise? Big time?
I know LA county covers a very large area, but how can NORMAL law-abiding, hard-working, honest Americans continue to live there?
And I swear Arnie looks more and more like Grey each passing day..
We should all concentrate on one item at a time to hammer our legislooters about. I suggest ending the anchor baby policies which are NOT what was intended for illegal aliens.
This cannot be. The “progressives” (who are the experts on life, the universe, and everything - they tell us so) have told us that the “undocumented workers” benefit the economy. It must be true. Oh, they also told us that there is human-caused global warming. Never mind.
I’m in OC, watching my property values plummet. Right now, it’s kinda hard to get out...
I am SO open to VIABLE suggestions.......
You’re bad. :)
“$36 million a month”
Now that’s alot of heads of lettuce there.
Indiana. Try 1/6 per sqft housing prices, the best medical related tort reform in the union (cheapest to operate health care), and, recently, they’ve been attracting a lot of biotech startups. Not not mention the state’s coffers are full as of late, and, looks like the property taxes disaster is getting taken care of.
I know LA county covers a very large area, but how can NORMAL law-abiding, hard-working, honest Americans continue to live there?”
Where do they go? I was run out of Southern Oregon by illegal aliens. Moved to the mountains away from it all.....I thought.....a couple miles from me armed Mexican drug cartels are growing dope all over the place.
HOWEVER! On the flip side of that....this mess is now overtaking the whole country. Yea, some areas are still not as bad as the southwest, but hey...
And there IS something to be said for standing up for what you believe in and not giving in to the thugs!!!
And he campaigned more to the right than McCain is.
Cut your losses, sell for what you can,
and buy a bigger, nicer house in the midwest,
and retire on the difference.
You can't really blame the illegals for that -- why should they turn down free money provided by "generous" American elected officials?
If folks really want to clean up that problem, the solution lies in electing a county government that doesn't give away money to illegals.
Instead, I predict this thread will be just another thread full of yapping by folks who can't be bothered to address the problem at its source.
I still have that pesky issue of what to do with this house........
Why do people want to live in Southern California?
My parents were born in Los Angeles in the 1920s. It is, or was, a beautiful place before the huge influx from back east after 1955. We left in 1969 for Oregon, another beautiful place, or used to be before the influx from back east in the early 1970s.
Today all three western states, California, Oregon, and Washington, are being invaded by foreign nationals from south of the border.
Wellll are you still in profit ? If you’ve had it for a while you probably are. It’s easy to sell as long as the price is right (in this case, for the buyer, unfortunately).
The previous ‘incendiary incident’ concept, is another... :)
The problem is with all our handout programs. Rather than getting angry that people want to come to this country, why not cut off the gravy train?
I honestly don’t know where one can go any longer to escape this influx, this invasion. Even the mountains of NC and eastern TN are feeling it. I’m talking very rural eastern TN, too.
does ahnold know about this?
the iss a PROBLEMO....
I still say the politicians need to move into some of these areas. WITHOUT their body guards, etal, and live like the rest of us have to. I give them one week. Max.

“With $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $432 million in welfare allocations, illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers.”

I hope all the employers and corporations that love their cheap low wage illegal labor are happy.
Actually Californians have voted to stop benefits to illegals and federal judges have thrown the laws out as “unconstitutional”.
Yeah, but you'll still get the mindless idiots trying to make themselves feel better by suggesting this is all somehow still isolated to the southwest.
Fact is, this is in everyones backyard now.
they are only taking the welfare that americans won’t take...
We tried for years to warn people on this forum, across the country.......that it’s coming their way.
And were (and still ARE) being called bigots, xenophobe’s, etc.
And lookie here. I don’t give a RIP where it’s located...this mess is HURTING MY COUNTRY!!!!
Here is some more breakdown of the figures for education. Also a nice chart of what each state spends.
Breaking the Piggy Bank: How Illegal Immigration is Sending Schools Into the Red
The calculation of the number of children of illegal aliens in the K-12 public school system indicates that more than 15 percent of Californias students are children of illegal aliens, as are more than ten percent of the students in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, and Texas. More than five percent of the students are the children of illegal aliens in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, and Washington.
Defenders of illegal aliens assert that the cost of educating illegal alien students is offset by the taxes paid by their parents, but study after study shows that immigrants cost taxpayers much more in public services used than they pay into the system via taxes.7 This is particularly true of illegal immigrants, who are disproportionately low-skilled and thus low-earning and are much more likely to be working in the underground economy or providing contractual services and not withholding taxes.
A look at the top ten highest state expenditures provides a stark illustration of the trade-offs for accommodating large-scale illegal immigration:8
In California, the $7.7 billion spent annually educating the children of illegal immigrantsnearly 13% of the overall 20045 education budgetcould:
* Cover the education budget shortfall for the 2004-05 school year, estimated by the Legislative Analyst Office at $6 billion and nearly cover the $2 billion reduction this year from the Proposition 98 formula.
* Or, the remaining $1.7 billion could pay the salaries of about 31,000 teachers and reduce per student ratios, or it could furnish 2.8 million new computersenough computers for about half of the states students.
* Prevent educational shortfalls estimated at $9.8 billion over the past four years that have impacted on class size, teacher layoffs, shorter library hours and fewer counselors, nurses, custodians and groundskeepers. (See Los Angeles Times, March 11, 2005)
In Texas, the $3.9 billion spent annually educating the children of illegal immigrants could:
* Cover more than the $2.3 billion shortfall identified by the Texas Federation for Teachers for such things as textbooks and pension contributions.
* Make Texas salaries for teachers more competitive by national standards, thereby reducing costly attrition, and recruit the 5,000 new teachers needed each year.
In New York, the $3.1 billion spent annually educating the children of illegal immigrants could:
* Nearly cover the estimated $3.3 billion required by the states Supreme Court under the decision in the Campaign for Fiscal Equity case to establish equitable state funding for New York Citys public school system.
* Help to reduce the $1.8 billion revenue shortfall for fiscal year 2005 in New York City.
* Provide enough additional funding to nearly meet the $3 billion in health care cuts in the current proposed budget for payments to hospitals and nursing homes.
I would view this.
They don’t get more hypocritical than the clowns in the LA City council. And Mayor Villaragosa even said he doesn’t send his kids to public school because it’s not good enough for them.
We need to start injecting these concerns into the campaign. Make them campaign issues. Call talk radio. Plaster it in Letters to the Editor in the paper. Call attention to it. Make them run on specifics.
Thanks, but that’s not what I’m looking for . . . when I walk into a hostile politician’s office I want the good stuff. I want THIS.
Prop. 187, indeed.
The big push to kill that was accomplished by what some people call ‘good republicans’...like the founder of the club for growth.
[snip] Working closely with Stephen Moore of the Cato Institute, Cesar Conda (former domestic advisor to Dick Cheney) circulated a statement against Prop. 187 of California in the nineties.
And what have Moore and his associate Grover Norquist been up to lately? More of the same.
Last fall the Club for Growth worked against conservative republican candidate Robert Vasquez, an ardent illegal alien opponent by funding his opposition.
Moore, along with Norquist, Newt Gingrich, Tamar Jacoby and other amnesty advocates penned a letter to the Wall St Journal proclaiming Bushs guest worker plan as “a humane, orderly, and economically sensible approach to migration.”
On September 19, 2005, the Federal Election Commission filed suit against the Club for Growth for violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act for failing to register as a political action committee in the 2000, 2002, and 2004 congressional elections.
You can be sure that both Stephen Moore and Grover Norquist are working full time to keep our borders open and promote any and all trade/labor agreements whether they benefit the USA and its people or not.
Moore said this about Norquist. “From the moment he gets up to the moment he gets to bed, he thinks, ‘How am I going to hurt the other team?”
Art Torres, Chairman of the California Democratic Party, “Remember 187 proposition to deny taxpayer funds for services to non-citizens was the last gasp of white America in California.”
Give those idiots in CA a couple more years and that once-beautiful state will look like Mexico - open sewers, naked kids & all...
I’m ready to fight anytime the rest of you want to get it going. Might as well get after it now, otherwise, it will have to be postponed until we help Europe get rid of their Muslim problem......................
This isn’t about this particular study out of LA ( I would like to see it too!), but interesting.
CBS Falsely Reports Rand Study on the Cost of Illegal Immigration
An April 7 CBS Evening News report on the health care monetary burden of illegal aliens on American taxpayers has just now drawn the ire and the fire of the two largest Hispanic grievance groups — the National Council of La Raza (translation: “The Race”) and the Mexican American Legal and Educational Fund (MAL (not Mos) DEF).
Byron Pitts’ piece is fairly mild and pretty much down the middle of the fairway, and CBS News and their (for now) flagship girl Katie Couric deserve kudos for at least addressing the issue.
But the Latino Intolerance Duo (LID — as in flipped their’s) can not let stand unchallenged the reporting of the costs of the invasion. Pitts pointing out that someone somewhere (that would of course be us) must pick up the tab — when the likes of Fabiola (the illegal alien mother featured in the story) does not — is to them an “anti-Latino falsehood”. They do not offer how or why something so obvious as this is either “anti-Latino” or a “falsehood” — we are left to assume that their asserting it empirically makes it so.
On our end, there was bit of a bone to be picked with the Tiffany Network’s numbers.
The tally CBS offers for the aggregate damage done to federal, state and local budgets by the unremitted health care bills of illegal aliens seems far short of what seems to be reasonable. It is in actuality false.
CBS cites a Rand Corporation study that asserts that the cost to the taxpayer for health care for “all undocumented men, women and children” — their words, both spoken and in chyron — is $1.1 billion per year. That jumped out — at least to me — as woefully underselling the drama.
And so it is. The Rand study cited is in fact NOT for “all undocumented men, women and children” as CBS claims, but examines only “nonelderly participants — those between 18 and 64” as so described in the Rand report’s executive summary.
In other words, it does NOT include children as claimed by CBS, nor does it contain those of advanced age, the two age groups that far and away partake of the most health care — and dollars therefore.
CBS inaccurately stretching the findings of the report to include children and the elderly, when it so CLEARLY does not, is decidedly false and minimizes substantially the impression left with the viewer as to the costs attending the illegal alien population in our midst.
Many thanks to La Raza and MALDEF for bringing this old story to our attention anew, else this egregious error might have slipped permanently into media bias and falsehood oblivion.
An aside: Even confined to the actual parameters, the $1.1 billion in costs per annum Rand claims still seems extraordinarily small. One perusing the Center for Immigration Studies’ “Costs” report page will find their inkling supported in study after excellent study.
In but one 2004 report, “The High Cost of Cheap Labor - Illegal Immigration and the Federal Budget”, we find Executive Summary Point #1:
Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.
Emphasis ours. Here we have already hurdled by a factor of 10 Rand’s $1.1 billion total — just at the federal level and in only a portion of the illegal alien population here in the United States.
CBS’s uncritically accepting Rand’s paltry number — and falsely applying it to the broader illegal alien population — looks more feeble still.
Seton Motley is Director of Communications for the Media Research Center.
If you find this study before I do, please let me know. I’m tired of using worms. I want to fish with dynamite.
“Im tired of using worms. I want to fish with dynamite.”
Dang, remind me never to invite you on a trip down the river! lol
Anchor babies are the ones getting the welfare. With these anchor babies the illegal alien can get welfare and food stamps in their name. Housing subsidies, section 8 too. So technically the illegal alien isn’t getting welfare
But I’m sure many illegals with phony IDs and phony SS numbers get welfare too. They masquerade as US citizens
Every single politician should be thrown in prison for refusing to enforce our laws. How much more do they think they can squeeze out of the American tax payer before we snap? I consider this one of the biggest crimes ever committed against the American people.
One of the cities in this county of Imperial, Calexico has voted in an all Spanish speaking School Board.
The brother of a school board member was promoted to a $129,000 dollar a year manager of human resources and that was just the beginning of the downfall of the school system.
A recent investigation by the state says he does have the proper qualifications for the job.
The entire school system and city is rift with corruption and nepotism of the kind seen in many cities down in Mexico.
Used to think it was in the water but now think the biased attitude of Hispanics are their own worst enemy.
Calexico is a good example of what those crazy MECHA nuts would do if they actually did get a country called Asstzlan.
When is this country going to wake up and realize that giving citizenship to the children of illegals is a really bad idea?
We could solve many of this country’s problems by no longer giving citizenship to children born to illegals, no longer providing social services to illegals, securing the border and enforcing all immigration laws.
