The bitterness Susan McDougal held toward special counsel Kenneth Starr, who headed the Whitewater real estate investigation, has been replaced with g ratitude, she said Friday at the Women’s Action for New Directions Mother’s Day luncheon.“The judge looked over at the independent counsel’s table and thanked them for their prayers, as if God had something to do with our convictions,” McDougal said about the trial that ended in her conviction.
McDougal was convicted in 1996 of four counts of felony fraud and conspiracy relating to illegal loans obtained through the Small Business Administration.
In September 1996, U. S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright sent McDougal to jail on civil contempt of court charges after she refused to answer questions before a Whitewater grand jury.
She remained jailed for contempt until March 1998 and then served three months of her two-year sentence on the felony convictions. Upon her June 1998 release, she was charged with criminal contempt of court and obstruction of justice, but her 1999 trial ended with a hung jury on the contempt charge and an acquittal on the obstruction charge.
She was pardoned by President Clinton in 2001.

What a freakin’ mess all that stuff was back in the ‘90s. It just went on and on, one disgusting and sordid event after another. Why anybody would want more of it with Hillary in charge is beyond me. Fortunately it looks like she won’t get the chance, at least not in 2008.
I could see her cast as one of the mean ones in those female prison movies.
Not that I’ve ever watched one of those or anything.

Bitter? I never knew she clinged to her religion and guns like me.
Guilty on all charges, real or imagined.
I don’t know that I feel bitter about her. I think disgusted is closer to it.
I still would like to know why she chose to stay in prison.

Let me see if I remember this right:
Susan went to jail because she refused to testify. Claimed the Ken Starr wanted her to lie so she shut up and went to jail. She rationalized “Ken Starr wanted her to lie” by using the following logic (sic).....If I tell the truth Clinton is toast, I don’t want that to happen, so Ken Starr is making me lie.
Is my memory correct? If so how in the world did the press let he get away with that? (I know the answer)
