Governor Pushes For Felon Crackdown (Napolitano vs Sheriff Joe)

PHOENIX -- Gov. Janet Napolitano has ordered the state to end an anti-illegal immigration contract with the Maricopa County sheriff so she can pay for a larger effort to track down thousands of felons around Arizona.

The sheriff, Joe Arpaio, on Tuesday criticized the governor's decision as a maneuver to thwart his efforts against illegal immigrants.

"Dirty politics are at work right now," said Arpaio, who was flanked by Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, state House Speaker Jim Weiers and state Rep. Russell Pearce at a news conference.

All four men have staked out hawkish positions on illegal immigration reform. The sheriff has been criticized in particular for letting thousands of felony warrants go unserved while he chased after illegal immigrants.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, there are about 59,000 outstanding, unserved felony warrants in the state. The majority of those are in Maricopa County.

Pennie Gillette-Stroud, the DPS chief of the criminal investigations division, said Napolitano's task force will focus on violent, repeat criminals as well as undocumented aliens with felony warrants.

The task force will be led by DPS and will combine local, state, federal and tribal authorities to track down felons around Arizona.

"We can go into different regions, concentrate on suspects that are problematic in other areas," Gillette-Stroud said.

DPS hasn't put a price tag on the task force. "We're putting together a plan with a budget to help determine those figures," Gillette-Stroud said.

But to help pay for the task force, DPS said it won't renew a $1.6 million contract between with the sheriff's office. Arpaio still can tap into that money if he cooperates with the state.

"We invite him," to cooperate, she said. "His personnel has a lot of experience."

Still, Arpaio and his supporters cried foul when they heard the news.

"I got news for the governor, I got news for the mayor, I got news for Mary Rose Wilcox and I got news for those activists that follow me around and destroy me from enforcing the illegal immigration laws," Arpaio said. "And we're going to keep doing it, money or no money, I guarantee you."

Weiers questioned the governor's decision to move money away from Arpaio. He said the money was intended for the sheriff and it appeared the governor may have violated the constitutional separation between government branches.

"As a legislator, I'm very upset," he said.

Napolitano spokeswoman Jeanine L'Ecuyer denied that the governor was trying to cut into efforts to stop illegal immigration.

"It couldn't be further from the truth," L'Ecuyer said.

Gov. Janet Napolitano has ordered the state to end an anti-illegal immigration contract...

Is his office not getting paid a certain amount of money for a specific purpose? Seems to me he's trying to meet contractual obligations and getting criticized for it. That and along with his shared responsibility in the serving of outstanding warrants a question remains: What were the rates of outstanding warrants prior to this effort?

Do you really doubt Arpaio is shirking his responsibilities?

[I don’t recall any negative publicity in our local media. She’s a Democrat, so are they. ]

Bruce Jacobs (KFYI-550AM streamed audio at 5AM MST) has been promoting Joe and dumping on Nappy and the Az Rep.

I guess I don’t consider talk radio to be “local media”. But you’re right. She doesn’t have many friends at KFYI.

So are you part of laraza?

Nope. Are you in favor of felons walking around the streets unpursued?

While they do the routine stops for cracked windows, etc, they not only pick up illegal aliens they pick up dudes with outstanding warrants.

Apparently not many.

Won’t take you a minute to read and is better written than I can.

I did.

No I think that like every other politician he's concentrating on what makes him look good to his constituency.

And of course rising crime rates will make him look good. </sarc>

I have considerable more confidence in Arpaio's ability to do his job as opposed to Gov Napolitano or Phoenix Mayor "Goober" Gordon.

Why do you believe that Arpaio's area is falling short with respect to serving felony warrants?

Is it? I realize that Maricopa is heavily populated so it would follow that there would be more unserved warrants there. The article never points that out. But is the number of unserved warrants higher than it has been historically?

There is another factor at work here.
The state budget is short.
Nappy may be killing two birds with one stone here......

More Americans killed by illegal aliens than Iraq war, study says

When you start digging into the numbers the only ones that can be sourced with the feds are the number of American murdered in 2005: 16692
I have seen federal numbers for illegals held in jail ranging from 19.3% to 27% of the federal prison population.

Here's a sampling of USA cities wanted for murder. What you'll see is that in big USA cities like LA or NYC most of the murderers are Hispanic. Unknown are the % of illegals. In smaller cities the FBI will post the nationalities of the murderers. About 25% of the most wanted are illegals wanted for murder. This number agrees with the percentage of illegals incarcerated in federal prisons. +-25%

Pictures of top 10 most wanted in LA. Up until recent stories about crime in LA posted by the LA Times--the pictures included the nationality of the murderers. They were all foreign nationals and mostly Mexican.

Wanted for Murder in New York City.

Chicago wanted for Murder

Philadelphia wanted for murder

San Francisco wanted for Murder

New Orleans wanted for Murder

Pictures of suspects wanted for murder in Washington DC

FBI USA 10 most wanted. (two of 10 are Mexican nationals) Around 40% of the FBI's wanted for murder are Mexican Nationals

There are currently no exact numbers on the number of Americans killed by illegals. Part of the reason is that the government deliberately obscures the number. I talked on the phone with the head of statistics for the US Bureau of Prisons. He said his office wasn't allowed to publish the number of illegal alien murderers. Rather they were forced to put legal and non legal residents in the same category. He said further that most of illegals in the federal prisons were in for drug related charges. Most of the illegals in jail for murder were in the state prisons. I talked to ICE. They put out detailed numbers on illegal child molestors. However, they put out nothing on illegal murderers.

Part of the reason for the silence on the matter is that there is evidence to suggest that most Americans being killed by illegals are black--as is the suggestion in this LA Times Article. Also this article from the LA Times. And here. This makes intuitive sense. We see stories regularly of drug gang killings in Mexico but we don't see those same stories in the USA. The reason we don't see those stories is not because its not happening. Rather we don't see the stories about illegals killing blacks because that kind of story is terribly politically incorrect. The populations being displaced in downtown sanctuary cities especially are American blacks. That means that their criminal elements would be pushed aside by Mexican gangs as well. That's also the story that the wanted for murder posters in all the major cities seems to suggest.

Nevertheless, the pattern of non reporting is starting to break. Discovery Channel has a series called Gangland that mentions ethnic cleasing of blacks by Mexican gangs

Reported Foreign Nationals on Death Row in the U.S.

To look at other USA cities go here http://stlouis.fbi.gov/ and replace stlouis with the city you want.

All that said the true number of criminal aliens is far higher than is revealed by criminal aliens in prisons. Most are simply waived through the courts.DHS Secretary Chertoff, has been quoted as warning that two million people in this country illegally have committed serious crimes. If you check the links you'll notice that its McCain who cites Chertoff. See also here and here Here is more info from Judicial Watch.

However the number of illegals on death row is far lower.

the reason for this is that the elites want a NAU against the wishes of the populace. part of that involves the free flow of workers across the borders. never mind that the USA doesn’t really need low skilled marginally trainable people heavily seeded with criminals. The idea works for the elites on both sides of the political isle because the middle class taxpayer pays the bills. the elite dems get cheap votes and elite pubs get cheap labor.

"According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, there are about 59,000 outstanding, unserved felony warrants in the state. The majority of those are in Maricopa County."

Ninety percent of which are illegal aliens no doubt. Stop the flood of illegals and the felony warrants will take care of themselves. This is just one more ploy by the Dhimmirat Governor to block any kind of immigration law enforcement.
