Moderator’s note:This was the first real thread reporting the news today. It was locked for reasons that should be obvious to everyone by now. The Moderator who locked it is the level-headed Mod. I am the arbitrary and capricious Mod. If you choose to martyr yourself I am happy to oblige.

US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the veteran lawmaker from Massachusetts who is the last surviving brother in the legendary Kennedy family, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today.

Specialists in Boston and around the country said the information released indicated that Kennedy has terminal cancer and might have only a limited time to live.

Mark my words his wife will eventually take his Senate sear.

What about the more than less distinguished former Congressman, Joseph Kennedy III?

Exactly. This is not a judgment from God or karmic payback for Senator Kennedy. This is a disease. Whatever judgment he receives from God is God’s alone to dispense, and we don’t get brownie points for being God’s little helpers—Job’s comforters, more like it.

I am sorry he has cancer. I opposed his politics and thought his private and public life exposed more than the necessary hypocrisy of politics, but it’s a bad way to die.

May God have mercy on his soul.

It could happen, which would leave JPK’s seat open for election.

He also did not take Communion when Pope was here...

Which shows his conscience is not dead. Plenty of hope for him.

“In all of my life, I will never hear a more moving speech than that given by Ted, at Bobby’s funeral. For that alone, I will always respect the man.”

Agreed. You can read it or listen to it here, from forty years ago next month-—

“Do we owe the rich and famous and the celebrities known for being known prayers? Serious question, please answer if you can. Do they pray for me? For you? Why not?”

I will defer to an authority on the matter:

1 Timothy 2

1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (NJKV)

With all our heart and with all our mind, let us pray to the
Lord, saying “Lord, have mercy.”

For the peace from above, for the loving-kindness of God,
and for the salvation of our souls, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

For our President, for the leaders of the nations, and for all in
authority, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

For the absolution and remission of our sins and offenses, let us
pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

That we may end our lives in faith and hope, without
suffering and without reproach, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.

Defend us, deliver us, and in thy compassion protect us, O
Lord, by thy grace.
Lord, have mercy.

In the communion of [ and of all the] saints, let
us commend ourselves, and one another, and all our life, to
Christ our God.
To thee, O Lord our God.

but it’s a bad way to die.

I believe that if I had to choose a cancer to kill me, it would be brain cancer. The brain has no nerves to detect pain, so any pain felt as the cancer grows would be to adjacent tissue that feels the swelling.

Still, it can't be fun.

Prayers for his family and for Ted to get right with God. He’ll soon have 40,000,000 questions to answer.

No, he’ll have only one to answer:

“What think you of My Son, the Christ?”

In all of my life, I will never hear a more moving speech than that given by Ted, at Bobby’s funeral. For that alone, I will always respect the man.

To Senator Ted Kennedy and his family:

We are sorry to hear this medical news. We will pray for you and hope the treatment you are about to receive will work to shrink the tumor so that you can return to your family once again. If not...we hope that you will live your life to the fullest and love and appreciate your family and all that has been given to you.

Stay strong and fight.

No matter what many people think, he is the last of a generation from a clan that has marked history in a mythical way. Such men deserve forgiveness for anything they may have caused through their politics. In a time of illness, the good must be remembered. That’s the Christian thing to do.
