Clinton's Vice Presidential Campaign
The Washington Post ^ | 6/4/08 | Dan Balz

Posted on 06/04/2008 1:23:31 PM PDT by Dawnsblood

Hillary Clinton is "absolutely ready" to discuss the vice presidency with Barack Obama and has authorized supporters to encourage Obama to pick her if he feels that will help unify the party and help Democrats win the White House, according to Robert Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television and a prominent Clinton supporter.

Johnson said he began discussing the vice presidency with Clinton last month and that they talked about it at a dinner in Puerto Rico last Saturday and again by phone and e-mail on Tuesday. "Let me be clear," Johnson said in a telephone interview Wednesday morning. "She said if asked to do this, she must accept because she believes that it is in the best interest of the party that the party come together and win in November."

Johnson launched an effort to create an Obama-Clinton ticket Wednesday morning with a letter to Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who endorsed Obama on Tuesday morning. In the letter, Johnson said the best way to unify the party is with an Obama-Clinton ticket. "I believe that the most important step that you can take now is to encourage the Congressional Black Caucus to urge Senator Obama to select Senator Hillary Clinton as his Vice Presidential running mate," he wrote.

Johnson said he talked specifically with Clinton on Tuesday about his intentions. "She said, 'Go ahead,'" he recalled, although she asked that he wait until Wednesday to do so.

Johnson said he believes Clinton understands that is it important now for her to recognize Obama as the presumptive Democratic nominee. "I think she recognizes that people want a definitive statement from her hailing Obama as the nominee and announcing that she is no longer in campaign mode," Johnson said.

“One potential obstacle to an Obama-Clinton ticket is the role of former president Bill Clinton. Johnson said the two Clintons must first sort this out as a couple. “She has to say this is my time to do what I have to do for the country and the party. You’ve had your time... I’ve supported you and now you have to support me.”

She can tell him to ‘run along and play’.

I sure as hell hope we don’t see an Obama/Clinton ticket. I think that will be a lot harder to beat than we would like to think.

I can see that pairing “unifying” the Democrat voters, and without a conservative base, I just don’t see McCain doing that well.

Absent Hillary on the ticket, I think McCain beats any other Obama ticket that the Democrats could put together.

Has anyone polled the combination? Does it add the pro-Hillary voters to the pro-Obama voters?

Or does it add the anti-Obama voters and the anti-Hillary voters to the McCain total?

If we were not all immersed in MSM BS, we’d recognize that Obama/Clinton is a ticket from hell. Two extreme socialists, all the baggage of the Clintons including the fact many people hate Hilary.

Yikes! It just occured to me that if Barry beats McQueeg, we’d have a president being led around by the nose by the CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS!! Oh, brother!

I’ve lived too long. Its a terrible state of affairs.

Got to believe if Hillary had any trash on Obama, she would have used it by now.

If McCain has it, holding it for a while makes sense.

I'm not convinced it exists.

I remember standing in the cold rain on January 20, 2001 waiting for President Bush to be sworn in, and how long it took the clintbillies to exit that day.

This is deja vu all over again.

They are the most disgraceful wastes of air and skin ever to walk the earth.

If McCain has it, it will never see the light of day.

It was all a lie.

Any wonder why the guy with the stones in the Clinton family beat her gums in full campaign mode last night?
