Chuck Berry won't sing for "Johnny" in election

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Republican candidate John McCain may have used his song in the U.S. presidential campaign, but veteran rock 'n' roller Chuck Berry has no doubt whom he wants to see in the White House next year.

"America has finally come to this point where you can pick a man of color and that not be a drawback," the legendary 81-year-old guitarist said of Barack Obama, who clinched the Democratic presidential nomination last week and would become the country's first black president if he wins in November.

"It's no question, myself being a man of color ... I mean, you have to feel good about it," Berry, himself a black pioneer in the 1950s music scene, told Reuters by phone from New York ahead of a Brazil tour that starts next week.

"Definitely a proud and successful moment for all the people of this country, not just black people, but Americans in general."

McCain, now preparing to take on Obama in the November presidential election, used Berry's hit "Johnny B. Goode" as an early campaign theme, although he has since switched to Abba's "Take a Chance On Me."

What is it with blacks picking Obama simply because he is black?

That is the most racist attitude a person can possibly have.

I don't like Obama because he is going to decimate our National Defenses, increase my taxes and disarm the law abiding.

But yet, I am a racist because I won't vote for Obama?

These black racists disgust me.

“They’re even bragging about it...”HE’S A BROTHA..”

What dupes. Growing up half-white in Hawaii, with his exclusive private school upbringing and Ivy League education, Obama’s about as close to being a Brotha as I am to being a Tibetan monk.

I am deeply and personally disappointed. Not only that, but having always regarded Chuck Berry as one of the true sages among American Intellectuals, I am seriously reconsidering my opposition to Barack Obama.

When a man of such perspicacity and insight throws his considerable political weight behind a candidate, who am I to question?

I have only to remember the great volume and depth of published writing that Berry has authored on the political scene to discard as flotsam the opinions of young upstarts such as Thomas Sowell (who’s probably just an Uncle Tom shill for Wall Street bankers and international corporations anyway.)

Thanks Chuck, for setting us straight! Hope and Change - That’s the ticket!

Actually, he’s closer to being an Arab-African slave trader.

The veiled racism on this board always makes me sick.

I don't see any racism in this thread at all, veiled or whatever. Can you point it out to me?

McCain needs a theme song like the Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and do it... Do it so the lyrics become “Rock you like John McCain.” And he better take the fight to the Democrats in short order.

81 years old now, and he's still touring. Remarkable.

My granddad was a building contractor for decades. I remember catching him hanging the last piece of a sheetrock ceiling at one of his rental houses when he was 80.

I was kinda pissed at him for doing something I felt was risky, but he blew me off like it was nothing. Gave me one of them sideways grandpa looks, too, for good measure.

And I still wind up panting, trying to keep pace with my 78 year old dad.

Please. You must not read this board often, there's hardly an Obama thread without it. Note I said board, not specifically this thread.

I think Obama is a piece of crap politically, but it has nothing to do with race. That said, if you'd like, I'd gladly ping you to blatantly racist comments.

When you’re all alone
And the pretty birds have flown
Honey, I’m still free
Take a chance on me

Yeah. That makes sense for a political campaign.

If he was going to pick ABBA, he should have picked Fernando:

Now we’re old and gray, Fernando
Since many years, I haven’t seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums, Fernando?
Do you still recall the fateful night we crossed the Rio Grande?

Full disclosure: I like ABBA. Sue me.

Can’t anyone see beyond his skin color?

Sorry, but the Presidency of the United States is not an affirmative action position. It should not and cannot be used to correct past wrongs.

The veiled racism on this board always makes me sick.

As opposed to the open racism that Chuck Berry just exhibited, or that Obama has exhibited, or Jeremiah Wright, or any one of Obama's circle of cronies, or Jesse Jackson, or Spike Lee, or...

Well, you get the idea.

But that's what the libs and Dems are trying to do with this election. Even in the primary, it was somebody's turn: a woman or a black man. The black man won out in that round.

Ok then, so no racism on this thread.

No need to ping me on any other racism you believe that you see on the Board, ping Admin with a complaint, or at least slam the particular Freeper who is posting it.

What do you think about “Signs” by the Five Man Electrical Band (or Tesla) for McCain’s theme?

And the sign said anybody caught trespassin’ would be shot on sight
So I jumped on the fence and-a yelled at the house,
“Hey! What gives you the right?”
“To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in”
“If God was here He’d tell you to your face, Man, you’re some kinda sinner”

By the way, the proper response to this dirtbag’s question is a 12-gauge.

So, one good turn, or in kind, makes it ok? I think the idea of a conservative centers around personal responsibility. I don't choose to go down into that mud pit.
