Oh, believe me, I know, that’s what I do myself. I have the misery of living in a diocese whose bishop has distinguished himself by his refusal to permit the TLM and, at the bishops’ conference this week, was the leader in trying to get the to reject the more dignified and accurate translation of the Novus Ordo that is being proposed. He said people were too dumb to understand it, essentially.
100% Amen to that.
You mean the tabernacle, not the sacristy.
Go over his head and report him to the CDF, make sure you send him a copy of the letter as well.
Since I had picked worms, gone fishing, climbed the ten foot fence to the school roof and did newspapers with him, I pretty much thought I should ring the bells, too.
No one was in church one day. I jumped the rail, knelt down and with all the reverence in my heart, rang the bells three times.
I jumped back over the rail, genuflected, blessed myself with holy water and walked out of the church.
I've always called it: "The day I made God laugh".
Well, I’m not God, but it made me laugh! Very sweet story!
His statements actually appeared in the National Catholic Reporter today (gleefully reported, of course). He always declares that he is a “loyal son of Rome,” and then goes on to say something outrageous. Today, in addition to his stupid statements about the new translation of the Novus Ordo, he said “with all due respect to the Pope,” he would never celebrate the TLM.
First of all, nobody is asking him to do it himself, but simply to permit it in his diocese. Secondly, who the heck does he think he is? “With all due respect” indeed! Who in the world does he think he is? I’ve been getting madder and madder about it all day!
Yes, of course. I have been gone so long that I can’t remember the proper names for some things. I’m curious, do you know if the “modern” Church genuflects?
That picture brought tears to my eyes. I doubt that I will ever see it in real life again. Why oh why did they ever do away with it?
We had one a couple of months ago. The reverence and adoration of our Lord and Saviour was so uplifting I cried. That was the day I made a commitment to stop with the dithering and go back to the Church for real as I’d been really trying but... I wrote to the Msg. requesting we have one every Sunday but he never responded. I did read in the Bulletin, the following week, an article, about how wonderful the vernacular mass was... My Church is up the block but now I drive to a TLM. I’m sure there’s one near you pepperdog.
The article doesn’t get into any of this, but, if we are now talking about a “Gregorian rite, that would presumably mean that it will be open to the creation of its own hierarchy. As a historical observation, that has generally been the case. They might not get around to this with the proposed Gregorian Rite, but it seems to me that the change from “Extraordinary Form” to “Gregorian Rite” entails more than the esthetics of a name change. Either this will allow the creation of a separate Rite, or it is a further step toward the gradual elimination of the Novus Ordo. Both possibilities bring a big smile to my face on this beautiful Sunday morning!
