A World Affloat on an Ocean of Oil

Considering how much untapped oil is known to exist, not just in the United States, but worldwide, one would think that its current price was some kind of anomaly and it is. It is more the result of speculation than anything else.

The most fundamental fact about oil worldwide is that there is lots of it. Though frequently overlooked, the ability to refine crude oil plays an essential role in the supply and demand equation. More refining capacity is needed worldwide. Finally, there’s the fact that, in general, oil is very expensive to get at and often found in the most inhospitable places on Earth.

For sheer insanity, however, consider a nation that has an estimated 31 billion barrels of oil offshore of its coasts and 117 billion barrels of oil under land owned or managed by the government, plus 139 billion barrels beneath privately held land.

In just one area, a desolate place designated a wildlife refuge, there’s an estimated 7.7 billion barrels untapped. The nation with this abundance of oil is, of course, the United States of America. Most of the areas where oil is known to exist have been ruled off-limits to any exploration or extraction by the government.

In the areas where it is accessible, drilling for it is hugely encumbered and often denied by the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act.

If, however, you connect the dots, you will have noticed by now that America’s energy problems, namely the price of a gallon of gasoline or heating oil, is making everyone miserable thanks in great part to environmental legislation designed to make it impossible to access oil on both public and privately held lands. Then, just to make matters worse, the government requires that every gallon of gasoline include the additive, ethanol, which reduces its mileage and increases its cost.

Further, we’re told that Sen. Barack Obama, if elected, intends to seize “windfall profits.” This is sufficient reason for American oil companies to decide to drill anywhere else. The last time a windfall profits tax was implemented was at the end of President Carter’s term. It had such a negative impact on U.S. oil companies that drilling for oil domestically dropped dramatically. It has stayed that way since the 1980s. Their actual profits are now less than pharmaceutical, high tech, and other elements of the economy. Imagine how thrilled they were to hear Rep. Maxine Waters’ threat to nationalize them.

No profits. No exploration. No drilling. And no domestic oil with which to correct our dependence on foreign oil and thus provide a measure of security to a nation that runs on oil.

If you wanted to bring the United States to ruin, you could not have designed and implemented a more perfect scheme. Along with too many members of Congress, environmentalists are America’s Fifth Column.

As my friend, Seldon B. Graham, a veteran petroleum engineer and oil industry attorney, and a graduate of West Point says of oil, says “If it is worth dying for in the Near East, it is worth drilling for in the United States.”

As to the claim that the Earth is running out of oil, that can be easily dismissed simply by reading information available in respected publications such as Business Week. Its June 9 edition reported the Saudis “already plan to increase production by 300,000 barrels a day in June for a total of 9.45 barrels to meet customer demand. Unlike the U.S., “The Saudis have embarked on an ambitious expansion program that should see more than 2 million barrels of new production capacity come onstream by the middle of next year.”

Those of us who follow energy trends read the Energy Tribune because it has some of the best information available on what is really occurring. In its May edition, Matt Pickard wrote about the expansion worldwide of offshore drilling, noting that today’s prices are being driven by increased demand from rapidly developing nations such as China and India. This demand is going to increase over the next two or three decades.

Unless the United States begins to free up its own oil and natural gas reserves, Americans are going to be paying more at the pump and in their homes for a very long time to come.

The good news is that the offshore oil and gas industry, despite the huge risks and costs involved and despite an aging, understaffed workforce, is making strides to meet demand. Whether it’s in the Gulf of Mexico or the North Sea, the icy waters of the Barents Sea or offshore of Brazil and Africa, massive new reserves of oil are being found.

“Large discoveries offshore Brazil, the continued progress in every region’s major projects, and the ongoing push for Arctic exploration and production point to the industry’s potential for growth over the next 20 to 30 years,” wrote Pickard. Brazil is poised to become a major producer. In its Tupi field, “Petrobas announced an aggressive development plan, with an early production system possible within two or three years,” reports Pickard. The nearby Jupiter field has gas reserves to rival Tupi.

None of this is a secret! Both privately owned U.S. and foreign national oil companies are going to find more oil and gas.

Neither candidate for President is telling the truth these days because both believe global warming is real and both keep blathering on about “alternative” energy. The big problem for the rest of us is that you can’t pour wind or solar energy into a gas tank.

The U.S. mandate for ethanol as a gasoline additive has already significantly put the world’s food supply in jeopardy, but most Americans are blissfully unaware that it requires 1.5 gallons of ethanol to produce the same energy as a gallon of gasoline. It actually emits more carbon dioxide than gasoline. It is an environmental hoax.

The world is afloat an ocean of oil. Meanwhile, the United States continues to rule 85% of its offshore oil off-limits to exploration and extraction. This is occurring while the Chinese prepare to pump oil just offshore of Cuba, a merely 90 miles from Florida. It is occurring while the Russians are looking to plant their flag on potential reserves of subterranean oil in the Arctic.

The next time you hear a politician say we need to be “energy independent”, ask him or her why Americans cannot have access to the oil reserves known to exist in California, in Alaska, and in many of our other States or off the coastlines of Florida and elsewhere.

Ask them why the fate of the condors and little known species is more important than the family budget of Americans forced to make choices between more food and more gasoline.

Ask them why they continue to claim that global warming is a threat when the entire Earth is now in a decade-old cooling cycle.

Ask them why they insist on blaming investor-owned oil companies whose own reserves are barely four percent of the all the oil that exists worldwide? Ask them how they expect these oil companies to compete in the global marketplace when they threaten to seize their profits.

Energy is the master resource. It determines which nations thrive and which lag behind. For now, America is being ill-served by a Congress that refuses to permit access our own energy resources.

Ask yourself how we have arrived at a point in time when both candidates for President believe in a non-existent global warming and whose proposals offer no practical solution to our current and future energy needs.

No, you are interpreting what you are reading differently than I am. Kind of pointless to have a discussion if you are going to be that easy to offend.

Maybe I'll just ignore you first. Na, na, na, na, na.

Seriously, lighten up a little. It's just a discussion. Wouldn't be much point in having it if we all agreed on everything to start with.

Whatever reservoir estimates the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) gives, multiply it by 4-5. The USGS estimates are generally based on old surveys or surveys that are processed with less than the most advanced seismic imaging that is found in the private sector

I have argued much the same thing in defense of industry predictions wrt the Bakken formation in eastern MT/ western ND.

That is completely wrong.

"Actually, it's cheaper than regular gas,"
The government subsidizes each gallon at a price of $3.80 cents per gallon.

"not to mention cleaner."
It produces higher CO2 and HC emissions than gasoline.
This is because Ethanol has an octane of 116 (close to
natural gas) and does not fully combust in a gasoline
engine designed to run 87 octane fuel.

"And if people would tune their engines right, would find it provides more power which makes consumption about equal to regular gas."
Just how do you propose people are going to raise the
compression of their new Toyota's to 14:1 without voiding the warranty?

I have heard, but don’t know how reliably, that there is twice as much oil in the US and mid-Canada than the entire mideast.

A few months ago I was in line at the supermarket and there was a fellow in a wheelchair behind me. We talked a bit, and from what he said, I knew he knew what he was talking about and was telling the truth.

He had spent 25 years as a hydraulic engineer - in Prudhoe Bay.

Told me they would come in with samples that looked so pure they were like Wesson oil. And said that he’d be surprised if even now, we’ve taken two percent of what’s there. The place is literally bubbling with oil - and not just ANWR. We’re talking thousands and thousands of square miles of formations, probably hundreds of BILLIONS of barrels.

"I have heard, but don’t know how reliably, that there is twice as much oil in the US and mid-Canada than the entire mideast."

The shale oil in Colorado which we have no real way to recover it yet is about 2 trillion barrels. Yep, trillion.

I would tend to agree with that too. Every area of Alaska that is suspected to hold oil needs a good seismic survey performed now. They very reason that the USA wanted Alaska was for the natural resources and we have tunred it into a damn no-zone national park.

Have you watched the good pipeline Chaplain in this video?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3340274697167011147

He convincingly asserts that it’s the IMF/WORLD BANK puppet masters who’ve raised the price deliberately as part of a 30+ year plan . . . BTW, to go to $10/gal

I’ve been wondering . . . why is diesel suddenly more than normal gasoline?

Could it be because that would be an excellent way to raise the prices quickly on everything? And what would the globalists’ goal be in doing that? Trashing the USA economy; trashing the dollar toward . . . what? Amero?

What other aspects of this would feed which of their global government goals?

Asking for brainstorming here . . . for those read-up on such and interested.

Naysayers may be ignored.

“Moreover, he refers to “untapped oil” and “its current price,” when in fact he is NOT talking about the current price of untapped oil.”

What he is referring to is the cost of extracting untapped oil, which under any circumstances is certainly cheaper than the current price of oil. It may be an “Inconvenient Truth” for you but shale oil and oil sands alone would provide virtually unlimited amounts of usable gasoline even if oil were to drop to $40 per barrel. Sadly for the Chicken Little's of the world we are not running out of oil. This, like other economic crises of the last one hundred years is caused solely by politicians, not speculators, not “big oil” and not by the commodities markets.

There is no call to tar me as a Gorebalist.

the cost of extracting untapped oil, which under any circumstances is certainly cheaper than the current price of oil.

Do circumstances like politicians have no effect? You mention

This, like other economic crises of the last one hundred years is caused solely by politicians

yet you don't factor it into the price of extracting presently untapped oil. (By which I presume you mean oil in presently untapped fields.)

If politicians run true to form, which is about all they're true to, the price of oil in ANWR and everywhere else in America's reach will remain "prohibitively" high, until hell freezes and the Chinese deplete the offshore fields under our noses. Might as well put a price on lunar crude.

As a matter of fact, if the price of oil in fields now off-limits is to be tagged to anything, I'd say we could tag it to the price of a seat in Congress.

The bottom line is at each month end, someone actually takes delivery of oil thereby setting the price.

Futures contracts are actually linked to reality, a contract for million dollar an ounce gold is only good for wall paper. It does not make it worth a million bucks to own a contract from someone agreeing to sell it to you for a million bucks a month from now. To pretend that your rich because you can purchase a contract for a million and a half an ounce gold later is what is loony. Just because you can next month buy worse contracts does not perpetuate the madness.

For example, if you insist, I will be willing to sell you a contract for a 2000 dollar a barrel oil due next month for 100 dollars. I will provide for you a barrel of oil for 2000 dollars at months end.

You will have driven the price of oil up to 2000 a barrel for about a micro second when you signed the contract to buy it for that at months end. But at months end, when you try to sell that contract for 2000 and 1 bucks (to make a profit) to someone else and Saudi is selling oil at at 150 bucks a barrel, you might just run into a problem finding a buyer. You either sell the contract, pay me the two grand and take delivery of a barrel or retire the paper as worthless and walk away with your 100 buck loss.

I, as the holder of your paper, will pocket the contract cost you paid and only wish you were willing to exercise the contract and make me 2000 -150 bucks richer. I will if you insist, honor the contract by buying the barrel from the Saudi’s for 150 bucks and deliver it to you for two grand plus shipping.

Or, as is the way of people that speculate BEYOND WHAT THE MARKET WILL ACTUALLY BEAR, you will be force to default on the contract and not throw good money after bad. (I of course, either way, still get to keep what you paid for the worthless contract in the first place.

You said "When the front-month contract is about to expire (actually 2-3 weeks in front of that date), I sell it back and buy the same or more crude futures in a month further out."

You could do that, but as you, like everyone else are buying/selling from a broker, I can promise you that the stupid guy is not him. He is not going to buy back that bad contract with less time for as much or more than you paid for it from him in the first place. The contract will be posted on the exchange as worth very much less than it was rated two weeks ago. You don't just walk on the exchange floor and say "Hey guys, I got a contract for sale, any buyers for twice the rated value?

I don't know/care how rich you are, but on a highly margined account like futures, I suspect that following your strategy would turn a billionaire into a millionaire pretty fast. When you plunk down your contract for x and the price runs away from you you WILL get a margin call for +x from your broker once it grows beyond your credit line.

For those not in the know; With the margins of futures contracts, which work out as a dollar multiplier, you plunk down your dollar and control fifty bucks worth of x. You win a buck, its great, your account is now worth Forty Nine Bucks. You loose a dime, and your broker calls you on the phone and says, deposit five more bucks today or I close your account.

I shudder to think of your problems if you loose instead of gain that buck. For a buck, you lost fifty one, and with a 1500 buck contract at a fifty to one margin on a thousand barrels You will end up having to mortgage your house to make the margin call. How long do you think you are going to last loosing on 1000 barrel contracts month after month? Not even Bill Gates can keep that up for long.

Speculators only win when at the end of the month they speculated right, they LOOSE when they GUESS WRONG. (Go figure). And guess what, when you run out of cash to pour into your sinking account, your Broker Will stop answering the phone. That is, once you have made your final margin call...

There is no win/win market, or we would all be trillion-airs... Speculators cause high prices like flys cause garbage.

We are not fighting to lower oil prices in Iraq, but fighting Jihadi. Heck, fighing a war in an oil field can only raise the price...

Blood for oil is a catchy phrase, but is the reverse true? Did they blow up the World Trade Center to give us oil?

If we are fighting for oil, why did they bomb NY City? They said Jihad. To kill us all.

Is it a war for oil, or for survival.

I suspect we better figure that out soon, or we might find our selves making some stupid decisions.

IIRC, this is the thread where there were skeptics about the puppet masters pulling the world's strings . . .

IN RESPONSE to the good Chaplain's lecture here:

And my comments about it given the different confirmations I've had on the Chaplain's assertions . . . some poorly informed folks still claim that those of us who are a great deal MORE informed than they are--that we are the clueless ones.

The following MAY help inform those who still have ears to hear and eyes to see. Sorry, I don't have any more time or energy to fix the minor html/formatting glitches. It's readable. I think most of the remaining glitches are dates of publications that were split because my wildcard replacements didn't work as planned--Quix

BTW, this is an END TIMES ping list ping. Please let me know if you want on or off the list.

Here's a list of historic comments on that score. It’s one of the best I’ve seen in 43 years of studying such. You may want to copy it off and file it for those in your social network still willfully ignorant about such realities of the socialists/Marxists/globalists and their traitorous, treasonous goals, efforts and strategies:

I posted this deliberately embedded in a thread instead of it’s own thread. It seems wiser given all the givens.

I have highlighted some of the more telling to outrageous admissions between lines like this sentence.

'New World Order' Quotes of Note

Hi

Here is some interesting and very important info on the term "The New World Order." I just copied this info from books and pamphlets and news articles already published, so this is nothing original except that it is a list of New World Order quotes listed chronologically. I think it has a good impact shown this way. I have also shown the source for verification.

-- AJ

[SOURCE DOC’S AUTHOR/EDITOR]

When Pres Bush (Sr) started using the term during his administration, one was led to believe that he or his advisor made up the term.

"One August 19**89 morning in Kennebunkport, Maine, Pres Bush (Sr) took his national security adviser, Brent Scowcroft, for a ride on the presidential speed boat, Fidelity. Four hours later, the president came ashore with a ringing slogan that Scowcroft had offered: "The New World Order" Ever since, the goal of a "new world order" has been the theme of Bush's Foreign policy pronouncements.----LA Times Feb 24, 19**91

But this term has actually been used for generations by individuals seeking one-world socialist rule.

.

Here are many references to the term (not a complete study) that refute any claim that it originated with Bush and also prove that it is a well-used term over many decades to indicate that it meant a socialist world government. I have also included some other references that I thought were pertinent.

1915

- Nov 27, Columbia University president Nicholas Murray Butler (on the executive committee of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace) delivered an address, "A New World Order is Being Born" to the Union League of Philadelphia in which he stated: "The old world order changed when this war storm broke--the old world order died with the setting of the day's sun and a New World Order is being born while I speak."

1918

- Charles R. Van Hise, Pres. University of Wisconsin, delivers an address to the Wisconsin State Convention of The League to Enforce Peace. They must act together; and this is possible only through formal treaty covenants."

.

1919 - The January edition of International Conciliation (connected with the Carnegie organization) focuses upon "A League of Nations." 1940

- A Book World Order (Civitas Dei) by Lionel Curtis is published. This 985 page volume will be called the foundation of all thought on the design of a new order.

It examines human society and concludes that a working system must mean the organization of all human society into one commonwealth.

.

1942 - In The Philadelphia Inquirer (June 18), reporter William Murphy, Jr. wrote that on June 17, "Undersecretary of State, Sumner Welles called for the early creation of an international organization....the setting up of a new world order on a permanent basis."

1948

- July: The CFR's Foreign Affairs publishes "A New World Takes Shape" by Sir Harold Butler in which he asks: "How far can the life of nations, which for centuries have thought of themselves as distinct and unique, be merged with the life of other nations?

1948 - UNESCO: Its Purpose and Its Philosophy by Fabian Socialist Sir Julian Huxley is published

1949 - April: United Nations World magazine publishes an article by Ambassador Warren Austin, chief of the U.S. Mission to the UN, in which he pronounces that

.

"....World government could not be accepted without radical change of national outlook.... It will take a long time to prepare peoples and governments of most nations for acceptance of and participation in a world government....

If we expect this future world government to be created by agreement and not by force or conquest, we will have to be willing to work patiently until peoples or governments are ready for it....

1949

- Towards World Understanding, vol. V, is published by UNESCO, and in this volume one reads:

"As long as the child breathes the poisoned air of nationalism, education in world-mindedness can produce only rather precarious results....

When the technique has been perfected, every government that has been in charge of education for a generation will be able to control its subjects securely without the need of armies or policemen....Educational propaganda, with government help, could achieve this result in a generation. Quite a list. And I know for a fact that some of the famous people like Ted Turner, Kissenger . . . have said more shocking things publically.

Thanks for your kind reply.

The bottom line is at each month end, someone actually takes delivery of oil thereby setting the price.

It's usually helpful to know what you're talking about before speaking up. This remarkable sentence is flat wrong in two particulars.

1) The NYMEX Light Sweet Crude and ICE Brent contracts expire, by rule, well before 'month-end'. For example, NYMEX' rule for determining the expiration day of a contract is: ''Trading [in a specific month] terminates at the close of business on the third business day prior to the 25th calendar day of the month preceding the delivery month.'' Further, as to actual delivery, NYMEX rule 200.16(A) states that delivery may be made on ANY day during the delivery month.

2) Over 95% of all crude contracts are NOT settled by delivery, but by offset; that is, the owners of contracts sell them back into the mkt and the shorts repo the contracts previously sold. This is easily verified by CFTC figs at cftc.gov or probably also at nymex.com . If need be, you can call Joann Arena in the NYMEX stats dep't for verification. Very nice woman, very helpful.

I didn't bother reading the rest of your post. Any post that starts off in this fashion rates strongly to be not worth the time. Do try to learn something about futures mkts before next expounding on the subject.
