McCain to Hillary supporters: I voted to confirm Ginsburg and Breyer, you know
Hot air | 6/16/08 | staff

Posted on 06/16/2008 12:13:45 PM PDT by pissant

Kaus expects nothing less than a full-blown conservosphere freak-out over this. I’m underwhelmed.

After his public conference call with Clinton supporters (covered extensively by Jonathan Martin) Saturday, John McCain met privately with some 75 of those supporters at his Virginia headquarters, two people who were there said…

“He stayed for a good almost half hour afterwards shaking hands, listening to our concerns, talking to us,” said [Party Unity My Ass] founder Will Bower, who said he thought many of the people there would vote for McCain…

Bower said he’d liked McCain’s answer on judges, in which he “pointed out that he supported Bill Clinton with both Ginsberg [sic] and Breyer.”

What’s he supposed to say? He was there to woo liberals. The best he could do realistically when they asked him about judges was to point to the Gang of 14 and emphasize that he wasn’t an obstructionist when the left’s turn came to pack the Court. Which, incidentally, would be an odd thing for the right to fault him for at this point: After years of Democratic shrieking about Bush’s appointments, my sense is most conservatives believe the senate’s advice and consent should be limited to determining whether the nominee has the legal chops to do the job plus some cursory ideological vetting to make sure there’s no truly fringe kookiness anywhere in his/her closet. If the left had followed McCain’s example, Miguel Estrada would be five years into his tenure on the D.C. Circuit.

Besides, unlike immigration, this clearly isn’t a subject on which Maverick is as far left as Obama — although given the composition of the senate next year, the difference between a McCain appointee and an Obama appointee is likely to be the difference between, say, an O’Connor and a Ginsburg. The former’s better than the latter, but if you think you’re getting another Roberts or Alito under any circumstances, think again.

email from Hillary today:

Together, you and I changed America forever. We touched so many lives over the course of this campaign, and I can’t thank you enough for the support you showed me. I met so many wonderful people out on the trail, and I wanted to share some of those memories with you.

I hope you’ll take a moment to view our online album with some favorite photos from the campaign.

Thank you so much — I’ll be in touch soon.

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

Cartman to MacCainiacs: How can you continue to pretend this asshat isn't a covert leftist?

He wants the Hillary supporters more than he wants conservatives. Guess what, Juanito? You win; You DON'T get my vote.

Can't understand why Kaus, or anybody else, would expect conservatives to erupt in a sudden freak-out over something they've known from long before McCrazy officially began his '08 campaign.

This is a joke, right?

Ya got to really love the open primary process and how it has been perverted.

This whole political season seems to be one long never-ending affront to conservatism and American ideals all the way around.

GoP,,, It is not too late to pull the plug on this one.

Who are they!? Why do they have to quote anonymous "secret" insiders who were there. We know McCains votes. Nothing new here. But if the sources don't come out... BS!

Ginsburg ,, 96-3 Senate vote for approval.

Breyer ,, 80-10 Senate vote for approval.

Both Clinton appointees.

Alas, Norm, the ‘GOP’ loves McCain. It is the conservatives that are not enamored. GOP and conservative are not synonymous.

Looks like Johnny McCain in pandering to the left and telling conservatives to kiss his a$$!

What a nightmare for the GOP who had the chance to nominate Thompson or Hunter but instead nominated one of their most liberal Senators.

Did I get that right? Wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

Hubby keeps telling me, “He might really suck, but at least he’ll appoint good justices!”.

I said, “Look at how he does everything else? How can you possibly believe he will appoint conservative judges?”

We may agree to disagree on this one.

Doomed. Doooooomed!

Scriptures to contemplate doom by:
Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too
had a sharp sickle. Still another angel, who had charge of
the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to
him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle and
gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine,
because its grapes are ripe.”
The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes
and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.

MacCain will do precisely what he's done for his entire political career: Betray his base.

If you're going to hire a job applicant, you look at his previous work history to determine how he'll behave in the future. It's NO different in politics, and that he's betrayed conservatives so regularly in the past only shows us that MacCain WILL betray them in the future.

No it doesn’t. It’s always been the tradition in the Senate to approve a president’s choice of SC nominee unless that person is not qualified to be there like Harriet Myers was not. Republicans have upheld that tradition. Democrats decided to forego that tradition and pretend that they control all aspects of government during the Bush presidency even though a Republican president was elected. McCain is emphasizing that tradition.

Two things: 1) “politics makes for stange bed-fellows” and 2)...it’s a simple election...TWO choices (no more...no less)...pick the one that will do the bettr job for the country and move on. If you don’t like either...stay home.

Continuing to rant against McCain just doesn’t make any sense unless you’d like people to vote for Obama.
