Well, it’s almost always the more physically stronger person who gives it to the “weaker” person. I think when a dad does it to his son, it’s just good old fashion horse play.
A sadist? Oh hell, is that what I am? I do it to my kids all the time. Although there’s no headlock involved, I don’t do it with any pressure, my kids are 21 & 16 and stand 12” and 8” respectively above me.
I also have been known to do it gently to my dogs. They seem to like the sadist in me, since the respond with wagging tail and a tongue swipe if I’m leaning down.
I thought swirlies were a form of humiliation?

1. Receiving a noogie is an unpleasant sensation.
2. The person giving the noogie enjoys imparting this sensation on their "victim" and seeing the reaction.
3. A sadist is someone who gets pleasure from inflicting pain.
4. Getting pleasure from inflicting unpleasant sensations on people may not be full-blown sadism but it clearly has some similarities. There is the same quality of delighting in the misery of another person.

My young son likes to play fight but I would never intentionally hurt him for my own gratification.

Three FBI agents were finishing a meeting with a female federal prosecutor in the federal courthouse in Boston in 2006 when one of them came up behind her, wrapped his arm around her neck and gave her a Three Stooges-style noogie, according to several law enforcement officials.
She may be chunky, but doesn’t appear to be guilty.

Unpleasant? They laugh their butts off. Maybe the way you do a noogie or the way one was done to you, but this is loving horseplay I'm talking about not sadistic seeking sensations.
