Is There Legitimate Doubt About Obama's Eligibility to be President?
The Corner on National Review Online ^ | 7/6/2008 | Andy McCarthy

Posted on 07/06/2008 10:47:57 AM PDT by Aria

I had not caught up until today with this apparent controversy over whether the Hawaii birth certificate proffered by Obama's campaign is a forgery and whether there are legitimate questions about whether he was born in the United States — if he wasn't, he almost certainly would not be qualified under the Constitution and relevant immigration statutes to be president. Our Jim Geraghty seemed to pooh-pooh the birth certificate controversy about a week ago, but according to the above cited report (at a site called DougRoss@Journal) and a new one from Israeli Insider, there are new developments, and the Obama campaign appears to be stonewalling. Shouldn't it be a fairly easy matter to prove he was born in Hawaii if he really was? Why wouldn't Obama just end this quickly?

Is there anything to this?

ADDENDUM: I should add to the above that I am not a conspiracy theorist. My predisposition on the many stories floating around about Obama and his circle is to ignore them on the following theory: If there was really anything to this or that, the Clintons would have found it and gotten their media friends all over it. This story about Obama's eligibility puzzles me because (a) it is so basic, (b) it should be so easy to prove the relevant facts of his birth, (c) the Obama campaign's response to the story is bizarre, and (d) it seems to be getting worse rather than resolved.

“Why did Hillary only suspend her campaign rather admit defeat. This is the first time a candidate clearly not having the votes did not admit defeat.”

-the answer is pragmatism, you can’t raise money to pay off campaign debt prior to the convention if you officially end your campaign...you can if you suspend your campaign.

But what politician has ever tried—let alone succeeded—before in passing off a fictionalized account of his life as an autobiography?

Thank you, 9yrlurker, for pointing this out. This point needs to be hammered home every chance we get. Obama was essentially a nobody when he wrote his autobiography. What was his purpose for writing this, as who would want to read the autobiography of a nobody? Obama's likely purpose was to create a "reference book" on Obama for the lazy press, and the even less curious voters. The witness protection program creates personas too.

"Dreams From My Father" contains composite characters, which in itself should disqualify this book from being characterized as an autobiography.

The Military will leave in droves just like in the Clinton years.

It should also be noted that the Clintons conducted a "purge" of the US military. A large number of career officers were not so subtly "encouraged" to retire.

Your theory actually hurts Obama more because on his own website stop the smears, he has posted the fake certificate of live birth. He has already produced, put out to the world and stood by a forgery.

How about when he loses? Would that make ya happier? K

“He’s telling several whoppers a week now,..”

And one of the biggest is his supposed effectiveness as a “community activist” to inflate his pathetic lack of credentials to be President. See the article on Doug Ross@Journal for the real truth about Barry Hussein’s “success” in the Chicago slums.

Of course, when you are living in a high-priced condo in Hyde Park (where did he get the money?) and your best buddy is a slumlord, it’s hard to really get down with “the little people.”

Andy McCarthy says just what we have been saying. There is no reason for this to be an issue if it isn’t an issue for some reason or other.

“It seems the obvious reason why Obama isn’t running to provide an authentic birth certificate is because he doesn’t need to.”

Yep, Keeps us buy while they work under radar.

I say forget this. Klintonistas will think of something.

Sorry, but you fail to acknowledge a key fact: Other than the manufactured facsimile of his alleged birth certificate, the Obama campaign has yet to simply post an image of a certified, authentic copy from the state of HI. No one, not even the poster of the link you provided, has yet to satisfactorily respond to this nagging fact. An NO ONE, not a single living person, including hospital staff or relatives thereof, family, friends,...etc has yet to come forward as a witness to his alleged birth in Ouhau, HI. No positive results of his birth through records searches, either paid or free through the public, have produced any such evidence either. There is only one way to put this to rest - produce the authentic BC.

Disqualifying him on those grounds now - even if legitimate - would tear the country apart.

So what happened to "We're a Nation of Laws"?

Ignore those laws that have the potential to (*gasp*) "tear the country apart"?

C'mon Larry, don't you believe the Law should apply to every American, from the common man in the street, to presidential candidates?

Same here. Not one.

This is just ridiculous. Had he been exposed as an illegitimate candidate the Democrats never would have selected him.

If a Michelle tape surfaces, or Obama is exposed as a hopeless flip-flop artist, or has yet unrevealed ties to criminals like Rezco, he'll lose and his supporters, though bitterly disappointed, will accept it.

But what is being attempted here, is a racially motivated - I'll repeat that - racially motivated attempt to disqualify him on the most chicken-shit grounds imaginable. Similar in every way to the old voting laws used in segregated states a half century ago.

You're not fooling anybody but yourselves.

In my midwestern city, there are still plenty of W04 stickers, haven’t seen a single McCain sticker. As far as I can tell, McCain is not even campaigning.

Has anyone looked into the Obama/Dunham marriage records to see if they were really married?

They met in Hawaii in a Russian language class so did they marry in Hawaii? Are marriage and divorce records hidden from the public in Hawaii as birth certificates are?

It's an angle that should also be pursued, which would shed more light on Obama's past and may provide more insight on his birth.

Maybe this is Hillary's "August Surprise".

the Obama campaign's response to the story is bizarre

It's got that weird, White Water-ish quality to it. The Clintons had a penchant for tap-dancing around any questions whatsoever. The result was they they look guilty even on those few occasions when they hadn't really done anything. Now the Obamessiah is doing the same thing.

He's feeling guilty about something. What is it?

"Disqualifying him on those grounds now - even if legitimate - would tear the country apart."

If there is anything to this 'he wasn't born in this country' stuff, which I seriously doubt, he should be disqualified. The act of following our Constitution and laws will not tear the country apart ... it will be a bunch of thugs in the street that accomplish that task.

Having said that, disqualification should have occurred immediately after he filed to run. Does anyone happen to know who, if anyone, is actually responsible for making sure that a candidate is a legal candidate before he/she ever gets on a ballot?

I don’t understand why people are not bothered by the cert number being blacked out. FGS, it says right on the document that any alterations render it invalid.

I can’t think of any legitimate reason to redact that number. The people now convinced that the document is real do not address this. The Obama camp needs to explain it and also why it will not produce the original.
