Now there's a blast from the past! I see Marquee was still working.

Dunno. I thought Jack was OK at first if a bit over-vigorous, but slowly, and you can follow the arc through his posts, he got more and more toward the fringe. Where Jack didn't actually have enemies he made them.

He published jeremiads concerning the corruption of society by several factors, including rap music and violent video games. The latter especially seems to have become something of a crusade. And he wasn't simply a vocal social critic, he acted on these through lawsuits, which brings us to where we are.

I fault him for making attacks against FReepers who weren't really his enemies. But there does come a time when you have to admire Don Quixote for what is in his heart even if the windmill-tilting turned out to be profoundly self-destructive. And unnecessary. I hope Jack finds some peace.

Apparently he didn’t steal any money; just ruffled a lot of feathers, and sued the Florida Bar Association. The proposed punishment seems grossly excessive, and smells to me like a vendetta.

I read the whole decision, except for the exhibit list. It clearly describes an extremely abusive person with no care for the damage he causes and an attorney who has absolutely zero regard for any rules of procedure or conduct. He went on public character assassination crusades against anyone who opposed him, even if it was just opposing counsel in a case (accusations of criminal racketeering abound). His antics wasted an extreme amount of time in courts and law firms (he would spam the firms with his tirades).

After an Alabama judge threw him out of his court, Thompson went on a mission against him, throwing out unsupported allegations everywhere. The dude is so insane that he wrote the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission about the judge, and sent a copy to Joe Pesci (yes, the actor). I guess he thought Vincent Gambini was real.

I can't disagree with it being his right to do both. It is his abusive, grossly unprofessional conduct and habit of spewing baseless allegations against anyone and anything that finally burned him.

Some people remember BatJack before he became a lunatic. Look at the way he has gone after video games in recent years. Read some stuff on his wiki page to understand the current Jack.

In October 2006, Thompson sent a letter to Midway Games, demanding they cease and desist selling the latest game in the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, claiming that the game was illegally profiting on his likeness, because gamers could use the Kreate a Fighter option to make a character who looked like Jack Thompson. Midway has not ceased distribution of the game.

So because players can make their own character BatJack is hurt?

In April 2007, only hours after the Virginia Tech shooting (and before Seung-Hui Cho was actually identified), Thompson predicted that the shooter had trained on the game Counter-Strike. The official Virginia state panel commissioned to investigate the shooting determined that Seung-Hui "played video games like Sonic the Hedgehog," and that "none of the video games [he had played] were war games or had violent themes."

Before the bodies are even cold he already blame video games and of course he gets it wrong.

Jack has clearly been twisted and corrupted by hatred and disbarment is his earthly punishment.

I agree completely. I don’t remember him starting out that way, though, just getting less and less stable as time went on. Before he left it was worth your life to be on a thread with him, and that was even if you happened to agree with him. Psychiatrist material, IMHO.

Why are you so happy that he has been disbarred?
