Obama’s director of Catholic Outreach ‘dodges’ opportunity to reach Catholics

Al Kresta, Catholic radio show host

Ann Arbor, Jul 11, 2008 / 02:11 pm (CNA).- Mark Linton, director of Catholic Outreach for the Obama Campaign, refused to appear on a Catholic radio show to explain Obama’s views regarding abortion and address his accusations of supporting infanticide.

The Detroit-based radio show, hosted by Al Kresta, founder of Ave Maria Communications and best-selling Catholic author, wanted to invite both Mark Linton and Deal Hudson, the director of InsideCatholic.com, onto his radio show.  Nick Thomm, the producer for Kresta’s show, explained to CNA, “[Linton] is the National Catholic outreach guy and he disagrees with Deal Hudson over the facts surrounding Obama’s record on abortion. So we figured we’d have them both on the show to hash it out.”

Hudson has written several articles questioning Obama’s stance on abortion and infanticide due to his refusal to pass the Born Alive Infant Protect Act in the Illinois Senate.  Linton responded on July 4 by sending out an email criticizing Hudson and attempting to clarify Obama’s abortion position.

After successfully contacting Hudson, Thomm was unable to find a contact number for Linton on the party’s website.  When he contacted Obama’s Senate office, he told that they couldn’t give out Linton’s phone number and that he would have to send Linton an email.

After sending Linton an email on Monday afternoon and another Tuesday morning, Thomm called Senator Obama’s office once again to try and reach Linton in time for Kresta’s 4 p.m. (ET) radio show.

Thomm explained that when he called Obama’s senate office he told the Obama staffer, “we have no choice but to think that he’s trying dodge us.  He’s supposed to be a National Catholic Outreach coordinator and we’re a Catholic radio show, so who’s he doing outreach to?”

“We never heard back from him and so we just went ahead and did the show without him,” said Thomm.

CNA also tried to contact Linton to discuss Obama’s abortion record and the missed radio debate, but calls and emails were not returned.

Director of Catholic Outreach for the Obama Campaign — Possibly the most difficult job in the world: trying to convince people that night is day, wrong is right, and that Obama represents Catholic values.

I am glad they called him out, even if he would not discuss Obamas dismal record on life issues.

When a politician has to hire someone to outreach to a particular group, the politician is in big trouble with them.

Mark Linton, director of Catholic Outreach for the Obama Campaign

LOL. I predict there will not be much to do in that position.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The above is a perfect example of his stupidity in the decision making process with his advisors telling him this is a great idea to have a Dir of Catholic Outreach.
Imagine when the really really important decisions need to be made.

“It is a “mistake,” Obama said “to try to tamp down the moral dimension to abortion,” for do to so understates that it is “a wrenching choice for anybody to think about.” On Meet the Press some time ago, he stressed the importance of involving the clergy in the counsel of a mother.”

In Other Words: I will say nothing and parse it in words that mean nothing and will take a stand on absolutely nothing because you media types won’t pin me down.

His “Catholic” outreach director won’t be saying anything either.

I often wonder if Sen. Obama has ever thought about where he might be today if abortions had been readily and legally available when his mother found herself with child. Whenever I hear folks talk about a “woman's choice,” I think to myself, her first “choice” should have been to keep her legs together, thereafter, if a pregnancy occurs, it is no longer just a “woman's” choice.

I know, some would think I have too much time on my hands, but those thoughts just pop up and I can't control them.

The most horrifying cartoon I ever saw was a woman trying to deal with a tamper-throwing child by saying, “Now, Billy, don't make Mommy sorry she didn't have an abortion.” I thought I'd heave.

This election shpould be a no-brainer because the majority Catholic vote means the winner but we now have so many CINOs that I doubt McLame will win that.

Lol ... haven't heard that expression in years. Everytime I turn on the tv, they seem to be promoting little blue pills, lubricating gels and a pharmaceutical product to reduce the risk of contracting genital herpes from your partner.

There is must to be said about abstinence!

He’s supposed to be a National Catholic Outreach coordinator and we’re a Catholic radio show, so who’s he doing outreach to?”

Was Obama Ever a Muslim?

"I've always been a Christian," said Obama, focusing on his own personal lack of practice of Islam as a child to deny any connection to Islam. But Muslims do not see practice as key. For them, that he was born to a line of Muslim males makes him born a Muslim. Further, all children born with an Arabic name based on the H-S-N trilateral root (Hussein, Hassan, and others) can be assumed to be Muslim, so they will understand Obama's full name, Barack Hussein Obama, to proclaim him a born Muslim.

More: family and friends considered him as a child to be Muslim. In "Obama Debunks Claim About Islamic School," Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press wrote on January 24, 2007, that Obama's mother, divorced from Obama's father, married a man from Indonesia named Lolo Soetoro, and the family relocated to the country from 1967-71. At first, Obama attended the Catholic school, Fransiskus Assisis, where documents showed he enrolled as a Muslim, the religion of his stepfather. The document required that each student choose one of five state-sanctioned religions when registering – Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic or Protestant.

Asked about this, Obama communications director Robert Gibbs responded by indicating to Pickler that he wasn't sure why the document had Obama listed as a Muslim. "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim."

Two months later, Paul Watson of the Los Angeles Times (available online in a Baltimore Sun reprint) reported that the Obama campaign had retreated from that absolute statement and instead issued a more nuanced one: "Obama has never been a practicing Muslim." The Times looked into the matter further and learned more about his Indonesian interlude:

His former Roman Catholic and Muslim teachers, along with two people who were identified by Obama's grade-school teacher as childhood friends, say Obama was registered by his family as a Muslim at both schools he attended. That registration meant that during the third and fourth grades, Obama learned about Islam for two hours each week in religion class.

The childhood friends say Obama sometimes went to Friday prayers at the local mosque. "We prayed but not really seriously, just following actions done by older people in the mosque. But as kids, we loved to meet our friends and went to the mosque together and played," said Zulfin Adi. … Obama's younger sister, Maya Soetoro, said in a statement released by the campaign that the family attended the mosque only "for big communal events," not every Friday.

Recalling Obama's time in Indonesia, the Times account contains quotes that Obama "went to the mosque," and that he "was Muslim."

Summarized, available evidence suggests Obama was born a Muslim to a non-practicing Muslim father and for some years had a reasonably Muslim upbringing under the auspices of his Indonesian step-father. At some point, he converted to Christianity. It appears false to state, as Obama does, "I've always been a Christian" and "I've never practiced Islam." The campaign appears to be either ignorant or fabricating when it states that "Obama never prayed in a mosque."-Daniel Pipes

OBAMA WAS BORN MUSLIM AND PRAYED TO MECCA AS A BOY

OBAMA KNOWS THE MUSLIM CALL TO PRAYER

Obama recited, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent," the opening lines of this prayer:"

"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!

Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!

I witness that there is no god but Allah

I witness that there is no god but Allah

I witness that Muhammad is his prophet

I come from a family of plain speakers, to be sure. My son and his friends from grade school who are all now in their early twenties still get together in our kitchen for “visits”. They tell a story on my mother who always made sure she was there to pick them up and take them to their practices and care for them when I was working.

They say she picked them up one day from school while in sixth grade and they were all abuzz about “sex” education. My mother usually never inserted herself into their after school deflation, but they say they almost fell out of the car when my mother said, “I'll make it simple for you. If you aren't ready to take on all the responsibility a child demands, keep your pants zipped.”

To this day, they all remember that day. They laugh and then say they wish she was still here — she made the best cookies. ;-)

Great story and thank you for sharing it. Wisdom comes with age. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were born old, did our foolishness then when arthritis prevented us from any serious deeds, and grew younger with wisdom. But then we would be too young to bake cookies ;-)
