He just put Ms. Pelosi into check. This is a good move, we’ll see if Congress responds in kind.
I went back and re-read my post and I can see how that could have happened. No biggie. ;-)
Well the Republicans in Congress have already said they are going to keep Congress in session for the August break....... now they have a solid topic to rail on: "We won't go on break until we lift the ban on offshore drilling."
?????
The Greenies have always been Red!
they are watermelons....green on the outside and red on the inside.
I think he has tried to pass an energy plan more than once. Even under the previous Congresses, the dims could filibuster.
The average price in 2001 was $19 to $30.

Drilling and exploration leases didn’t come to a complete stand still, but it certainly slowed way down.
If President Bush had done this in 2001, the survey crews would have welcomed the work hired by the MMS. It probably would have taken until 2003 for the actual lease sales to occur. With average prices ranging from $28-$36, there certainly would have been bidding, but not the huge prices that would come today.
A couple more years for detailed survey work and exploratory drilling as prices rose to an average of $46 to $65 in 2005.
I think if he had done this early 2001 we would be see platforms being built today and production not far away.
Hey, good point! Maybe we should all bring this up when we call to thank him for this latest news. Nothing major just a few words about securing the border. Get across two points with one phone call.
When I was a kid I didn’t understand how the government could allow the great depression to go on, year after year, and not take action to stop it. Now I totally understand.
Just called Cantwell of Washington state and was told that she has never supported off-shore drilling and hasn’t made up her mind how she will vote when this comes up in Congress. She has “grave environmental concerns”. I told the guy on the phone that her job is not secure come this November and that her “environmental” concerns are affecting the US economy.
Thats ok. All that matters is that we are on the same side. LOL
IDIOT
I just called the WH and left a message saying how glad I am that President Bush is doing this.
I just called too. The operator sounded like she was chewing on something. LOL
Good.
That’s right. Drill here! Drill now!
Nancy Pelosi’s #
(202) 225-0100
Just left her a message.
That makes sense.
Very true. People vote their pocketbooks except in time of war. We got both issues, rightcheeah. It’s the economy, stupid.
I haven’t seen this on CNBC yet and it’s 11:21 a.m. already.
Obama is undoubtedly deftly shifting ground on this issue as we speak. He has to. He's been so opposed to drilling he probably doesn't even go to the dentist.
Leni
Good for you! Its time we do the same thing we did durring the amnesty fiasco. That even caused McCain to change his mind. Sort of.
When I called, it was a guy who sounded like a bored teenager and didn’t understand my southern accent.
Boy do we need a communicator in our party.
How long will it be before the first environmental suit is filed in Federal Court?”
Got to have the Federal court so the rats can claim they want to, but.....
Seven years ago the massive increase in the price of oil had not begun. Oil was still cheap.
I know and sadly McCain isn’t much better. I wish we had Bobby Jindahl. He is a great communicator. Maybe in 2012. I just hope America lasts that long.
Today it does to you and me. But trying to recover from the 1998~1999 which was still have effects on us in 2003, it was hard to see it in our crystal balls.
It almost certainly would have helped the industry recover or keep from falling so far. It probably would have helped keep down the peak pricing.
But so few oil companies had much of any capital to spend back then, it may not have made much difference.
But I suspect the government hiring out the survey crews would have kept the blood letting from getting so bad.
Lets drill and drill now !
Well, it seems that Cantwell’s office is the only one who wanted to argue with a voter. The other two congressmen’s offices I called just took down my comments and promised to pass them along. More people here in Washington state need to flood Cantwell’s office with calls and get her attention as to just what the will of the people is!!
I love that show....
The liberal environmentalists will sue and take the case to the 9th Circuit, where they will get an injunction against offshore drilling (Because it “Harms the Whales” or some other excuse).
If the women can’t find you handsome, at least they can find you handy.
But unfortuneately, unless it is done in numbers big enough to actually shut down phone lines and get the medias attention, we are usually ignored.
Every office I call I remind them of their approval rating! lol Just called another one! :~)
LOL Good move!!
“Given that I am in the industry?”
For somebody who is ignorant of the percentage & volume of domestic oil that has been drilled in America for less than $20 a barrel over the past 38 years, I’d say you are in the wrong industry and overpaid! LMAO
bump
Is Cantwell up for re-election this year or 2010? If this year do we have a decent GOP candidate?
So have you called? ;~) People are just finding this out about what the President has promised to do. Give the people a little time to get the news! I’ve called 4 so far. Reminded them of their approval rating, to vote the will of the people, that the US is the safest in the world when it comes to drilling, that there were no spills during any of the Gulf hurricanes, etc. ~ and their job is NOT secure come this November!
Yeah, me too. Expect it to continue to allow individual states to ban it in waters off their coasts. Which, if so, will mean that we still can't go after a lot of oil. Like the dipwads in CA & FL. Although I'd like to know what right FL has to say anything about drilling 100 miles out.
In my opinion, Kellynla, you are really out of line.
Someone is offering you some valid information, and you insult him. Shame on you.
You know, the ban that clinton imposed as quid pro quo payment for the Riadys
In campaign 2000 one of issue was that he would review all of Clinton's land grab EO's. If he ever did he must have agreed with all of them as he hasn't lifted a single one. I'm still hacked about that.
Good for him. Let the games begin...
Haven’t a clue. I just moved here within the past couple years and don’t know much about the reps yet. With the election coming up, I’m about to start the crash course.
Hmm, he’ll be Green Red?
LOL
This was the correct time to do it. Even so congress has to lift their end to open the drilling. If they don’t it puts them in a bad light.
Regardless it will surely help reduce prices in a trickle type effect over time.
It is about time we as a people started some type of petition to our congress to lift the ban and put pressure on them to do so. Political creatures that they are won’t disapprove of it when elections are coming up if we make enough noise.
On September 12, 2001 it would have been supported wholeheartedly.
Way to go, Mr. President!
Nevermind. She is due for re-election in 2012.
