District Leaders Announce New Handgun Regulations
The Washington Post ^ | July 14, 2008 | Robert E. Pierre and Marcia Davis

District residents will be able to keep a handgun in the home for self-defense but that right would be limited to the home and not outside it, city leaders said today, announcing new gun regulations in response to the Supreme Court's recent ruling striking down the city's handgun ban.

Gun owners will have to pass vision and written tests, provide a photo with their application to register a gun, and submit their weapon for ballistics testing. Guns will also still require trigger locks.

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) and interim Attorney General Peter J. Nickles announced the regulations alongside D.C. Council Chairman Vincent G. Gray (D), Phil Mendelson (D-At Large) and several other council members.

The regulations are an effort to maintain some gun control while complying with the Supreme Court's 5 to 4 ruling last month.

The majority opinion made it clear that requiring use of trigger locks was unconstitutional because it impeded the core purpose of self defense. Lower courts will (should) apply that reasoning. So if these @ssh@ts can pass a trigger lock law that does not impede self defense, it might pass muster. But then who cares? It will be meaningless.

If only we could impose equal restrictions on police and politicians. Police-trigger locks at all times. Politicians-psychological sanity tests and tests on the
Constitution of the USA. When they are under their own totalitarian rules I would like to ask them how they like that boot on their throat.

Letters too the editors, snail mail and e-mail, freedom of information act as too how much money your DC polidiots cost the tax payers for their personal protection. Check on local laws that allow or have allowed polidiots too pack a firearm for personal protection and not common citizens.

Go after ALL the details you can obtain and then take the time too run for office where you can make a difference if at all possible !

Maybe other pro 2nd activists can add more........

Pretty much ties ones hands behind their back.

Well then, my advice is get the deadliest gun available and to hell
with the locks. Responsible gun owners know not to keep a gun where someone can find it, but still able to have it handy. Whos to know?

the lower court enforcing Heller will strike down DC’s new try.

Heller is one of the most important SCOTUS decisions in 225 years is because it puts gov't entities (right now, DC, but after Chicago ie incorporation, the entire US) on defense.

What this means is the minute any new law/regulation is signed, a motion for injunction will be filed, and granted. NOTHING will be implemented until the law is overturned.

Thank you Socialist Democrats. You folks are so good to us.

The Obambi campaign doesn't want this issue on the front burner anytime before the election. Wouldn't be surprised if The Mayor and his Friends get a call from Rat Central regarding this.

It is belived that the gun issue cost Gore Tennessee- his home state ;^)

If you can only possess a firearm if it is in your home, then how do you get it home?

What pisses me off is here in Texas you have to take the same test each time you renew which includes field target shooting w/fast reloads.

In Indiana all you have to do is renew, last time I was there. Anyone know?

We use to carry our rifles & hunting guns on a rack in the truck going to and from the lease.

Bet you can’t even do that anymore. Haven’t kept up with that because we don’t hunt anymore.
