Christian Bale Talks “Batman 3″ Sequel to The Dark Knight
Slashfilm ^

Posted on 07/26/2008 3:34:54 PM PDT by MinorityRepublican

Can you imagine if The Dark Knight was the last Batman film for actor Christian Bale? Clearly no person plays more into the monumental equation of a trilogy starring him than director Christopher Nolan. Bale recently spoke with EW about a second sequel to Batman Begins, or as the odd interviewer incorrectly called it, Batman “film number six”(I counted seven, Peter counted eight with the Adam West film)…

Interviewer: So do you think there will be a part 3 of Batman? Christian Bale: Um, look, let’s wait and see…

Interviewer: Or, I guess it’d be part 6. Christian Bale: No, no, no, no, no. [Smiling] Part 3 is what I’d consider it, yeah, I don’t say part 6. Batman begins - that was the beginning there, with all due respect to the others. We are re-creating this. You know, obviously the decision is out of my hands. I would, knowing the Dark Knight story, I would like very much to complete a trilogy. And I think that knowing the story of The Dark Knight, it leaves you anticipating something that really can get very, very interesting for a third. Now, the question would be: Is Chris going to be doing it? Because to me I find it tricky to imagine working on it without it being a collaboration with Chris.

Sounds good, but it won’t be cheap. Bale was signed for three films way back when, including a Batman “team-up” movie. There was a time when a third film in Nolan’s series was strongly rumored to be the trial of the Joker (screenwriter David Goyer even said so back in 2006) but that piped down even before Heath Ledger’s passing, and Two Face’s appearance in TDK would also negate it.

With general interest already through the roof for TDK partially due to the best early trailer of the summer flock, and one of the strongest viral campaigns ever, the first sequel is going to rock registers and hopefully fanboys’ minds as well. A third film would be ideal and everything points to it happening with Nolan and/or Bale at this stage. But hey, it’s Hollywood, nothing is a sure thing.

The guy beats his mother and sister, no thanks.

See the above comments. Verbal abuse was the charge. How would you feel if your family all of a sudden starts hitting you up for a 200K loans?

I think after the 3rd one it'll probably be the end.

I agree. I think the director and the actor playing Batman will want to move on to other projects. But the Batman series is too profitable for Warner Bros to give it up all of a sudden. So my guess is that in a couple of years, they will look for a new director and actor playing batman. But my hope is that they won't do this for a decade or two because I do not see how anyone could top the current version of Batman that we are currently watching.

There is such a thing as a mom who chooses sides, and sets up one sibling against the other. It is usually driven by spite and envy. Not pretty.

and I imagine that it is also possible that when a family member is fabulously wealthy, and it is one of the most important nights of his career - and he is trapped in a room with greedy relatives with press outside - might that be a good opportunity for greedy relatives to attempt a little extortion?

The mom and sis claim they only pressed charges because he needed to be taught a lesson.
hmmmmm....

Yep. For some people, blackmail is a convenient way to get some easy money. Morals, what are morals?

I suppose it’s also possible he did something wrong - maybe crossed a line of decency.
But he’s cute, and he’s batman - and he was about to attend a premiere, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Right now I feel bad for him.
He must be terribly embarrassed and furious.

I try to steer clear of gossip rags, but from what I’ve read they are estranged. In unrelated points of interest, his father was married to Gloria Steinem!

Yeah, Hamm can act. The Season Premiere of “Mad Men” is Sunday (July 27), 10 pm on AMC. Check him, and the show, out. Both are excellent.

I bet it would take quite an interesting man to convince Steinem that marriage was worth her while afterall!

Thank You for that post. IMO the only thing worse than someone who abuses others is someone who claims a person is an abuser without any evidence.

de nada!

I think one problem is how the headlines were phrased and that the laws are different between UK and US.

When americans hear “abuse” or “domestic” situation - we assumed punches were thrown.
And then add in one man + 2 women, and we assume the guy is being a real bully - towards his own mama no less?

But the more this story unfolds, the fishier it sounds.

I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin would be interesting. I think in the comics he is now an arms dealer which would probably fit in well with what has been the running mob themes of the movies. After the Joker didn’t work out for them how about someone who just supplies interesting weaponry?

I also think with Batman being a fugitive now introducing Dr. Hugo Strange would be a nice touch. Now more than ever he would need to keep his identity secret and Strange knows who he is.

The thing is from all reports Ledger’s performance is one for the record books. (I haven’t seen it, have to wait until next Monday.) So you have to have an actor like Phillip Seymour Hoffman who at worst will only have a very good performance instead of an excellent one. I hope they can work Johnny Depp in at some point.

Speaking of Depp, I can’t wait untill next summer when Public Enemies comes out. Depp, Bale and Michael Mann how can you go wrong?

You hit the nail on the head. I have had some pretty heated arguements with my mother about things she said about my wife. I don’t see yelling as abuse. If it is then from most of the articles the mom and sister are also abusive.

Heath Ledger was incredible. I thought all this talk about Oscar performance was hype because of his demise but he was fantastic. Its hard to believe it was the same guy from “A Knight’s Tale.” His characterization of the Joker had this scary, evil, foreboding presence—Kind of like Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lechter in the original Silence of the Lambs

Not in detail. I did see a few comic-book pictures posted on the Batman threads on FR, but I didn't notice whether the character had lips.

He many have done something wrong. But I suspect that he was provoked by the selfishness of both of them. Some mom’s COUNT on that to manipulate their victim (Batman) into doing what she wants. Like give money to a whining sibling because in the mom’s eyes, the sister is the “better” child.

It is a no win situation for Batman. He loses either way, if this is an accurate scenario.

Except it turns out that what he actually did was yell at his mother and sister when they asked for $200,000, and got very upset when he said no. He may have brushed against his sister as he left the room, but that was the extent of any physical contact, and even that is suspect. Hard to be upset with a guy who ends up in the police station for yelling. Of course, that story doesn't sell many papers.

Typically, Batman is drawn (like most traditional male superheroes) with no lips and a straight line for a mouth, set on a square jaw.
