He came, he saw, he sprinkled us with stardust. Even Gordon smiled (two bag barf alert)
The Guardian ^ | July 26, 2008 | Euan "Obasm" Ferguson

He's not even President, but Obama's visit to London yesterday was little short of messianic, writes Euan Ferguson

He has a devilish, wicked, lopsided little half-smile, does Mr Barack Obama, and the instincts in his face want him to use it. Just as well, really, because it pulls him back into the realm of humanity, and without it we might be in danger of trading hallelujahs and tugging his frayed hem.

'He's not the President,' reprimands the copper keeping crowds at bay outside the House of Commons. 'Yes, he is!' wails a fat white sunburnt American. 'He's my President! Let me throooough, man, let me through!'

'He's not the President,' comes the (angrier, screechier, more frustrated and didactic) cop's reply. 'He's a ...'

I think he went on to get it right, roughly, didactically, in the sun. He is not the President yet. A visiting dignitary. But, oh, how I wanted this copper to be a great fan of The Life of Brian and continue... 'He's a very naughty boy.' Because there was something utterly messianic about the visit yesterday to London of what polls increasingly have down as the United States' next President. Not least the presence of mortals gathering to be sprinkled with stardust, PMs and PMs-in-waiting among them.

Barack Obama said a few things yesterday, and said them well. There was a rather significant mention of the 'transatlantic' alliance, as opposed to the 'special relationship' that we Brits seem to get so high on; a taut and careful and supremely successful nuancing of the Europhilia he possesses and which gives liberals hope. Rather than boring on with soundbites about the 'special relationship', he simply talked - hesitantly sometimes,

Another weak minded fool looking to politicians for salvation. I wonder what exactly they think Obama will do or change? This is getting bizarre and a little scary.

he simply talked - hesitantly sometimes, but always thinking - of what Britain and America have in common. He spoke of the rule of law and due process, before adding, more winningly: 'We just like the people! . . .'

Uh uh uh uh golly, that's new!! I don't think any American in the history of the WORLD has ever talked, hesitantly or not, about what America and Britain have in common. This writer's a moron.

Our founding fathers would spew chunks at the very thought of this sort of adulation for any politician.

I think I would hurl if I followed the hyperlink and read the rest of the article. This makes the Der Spiegel Obama fluff piece look like it was written by George Will

He has a devilish, wicked, lopsided little half-smile, does Mr Barack Obama,

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow...

Two barf bags is not nearly enough.

> little short of messianic

Once again proving you can’t make fun of liberals. They are already parodies of themselves.

I seriously though this was satire after reading the first couple of sentences.

People who used to watch the “Angel” TV series will remember the “Jasmine arc” on the show’s Season 4. The Obama phenomenon recalls nothing so much as Jasmine-worship:

YOUNG BOY
(standing at the podium) “Why I Love Jasmine” by Lenford Detweiler. I love Jasmine because she makes food taste good.

A woman wearing a pink prom dress stands at the podium sobbing.

ROCK DUDE
(standing at the podium, a long-haired blond guy pumps up the crowd) Jasmine rocks. Jasmine rocks.

DEAF WOMAN
(standing at the podium, signing)
SUBTITLE: I wish I could be in Fred’s skull...so I could explode her brain and kill her for rejecting Jasmine.

LORNE
(singing, accompanied by an electric guitarist) Freddie’s dead...Oh, that’s what I said.

VERY OLD WOMAN
(standing at the podium) I have 37 cats, and I’ve just changed all their names to Jasmine.

A woman wearing a pink prom dress stands at the podium sobbing.

ANGEL & CONNOR
(singing at the podium, accompanied by an acoustic guitarist) Now we realize how happy you’ve made us, oh, Jasmine. You came and you gave without taking...

GUNN
We should be doing this every night.

ANGEL & CONNOR
(singing) And we’ll keep you forever, oh, Jasmine. You came and you gave without taking... And we’ll keep you forever, oh, Jasmine.

Better get used to it, because it`s going to get worse. Hitler himself would be envious at the way Obamessiah gets adulation.

The European simpletons love their new fuhrer.

And now I’m reading that obama’s adoring crowds numbered 20,000, not 200,000. Anyone have the right number?

DO the writers of these stories realize how RIDICULOUS they appear? Slobbering over another human being because of WHAT HE SAYS? I can see admiring someone based on their achievements and their impact on other people. Tony Snow comes to mind. But based on SPEECHES? It’s downright bizarre.
