I just called and said "There's a Republican revolt going on int the House Chamber and I wasn't seeing much coverage of it." I got a run around on it. Was told several times "There are no cameras on now. Cameras are not allowed." I objected, politely, that the story could still be covered.

He seemed mildly irritated that I would question that and asked if I wanted to talk to (name garbled) and I said yes. Got a phone tree that led to leaving a recorded message. I did...

"There's a Republican revolt going on in the House Chamber. I understand that the cameras are turned off. You can still cover the story. Thank you."

Duncan Hunter Rocks! He is by far the best qualified candidate to be the next POTUS. I think he could surpass Reagan actually.

Rats! There’s no way I can keep up. Have to start a really nice dinner to keep Mr. Goldwater Chick happy so he won’t mind if I’m on here again later!!

He’s reading Bernie Goldberg’s book Islamic Fascism—says it’s terrific—so it will be a quiet night around here except for the keys. Oh, and Monk at 9. Guess I’ll have to tape it (old folks)! :)

I caught up! That usually means the thread is over. Hope not. And, sheesh! I ate a whole bag of spicy, preserved veggies. That's my salt quota for the month! By the time I hit “post,” I hope I'm behind again!

I am operating on what’s left of my memory about the deal back in the early 80s when C-Span coverage was negotiated. I recall (foggily) that the cameras in the House would stay on even as the day’s session ended, so long as Members were speaking, but would go off when the Congress went into a recess like the summer vacation.

You may recall that Newt and others in the minority during the 80s took full advantage of those cameras being on in the evenings after everyone had left .. they would go on and put out their positions to an empty, but C-Span covered, chamber.

Apparently, yesterday Speaker Pelosi closed down the House, went into summer recess, and turned off the lights. I really don’t think this was C-span’s judgment one way or the other. They probably are doing no more than conforming to the terms of their agreement with Congress.

The dem hearings were held while the Congress was in session; however dumba$$ they may have been, they were ‘official business’ during a session of Congress.
