I think this generation is going to get a lesson in applied Marxism by putting Obama over the top. Unfortunately, the costs of this lesson will be paid by many who already know better.

I have two boys 22 & 23
They are not voting for Obama
Their friends are not voting for Obama
They do not know anyone voting for Obama (neither do I)
So, where are all these Obama supporters coming from?

If he’s elected, they won’t like obama much after he reinstates the draft (which will have to include women) to populate his homeland security force (larger than today’s military.

Colorblind? Colorblind? I’m colorbling and there’s no way I’m voting for a racist commie of any color. Socialist Alzheimer’s patient for me, please.

Well first of all I do think Zogby’s agenda is to paint the next generation as very liberal. Honestly though most young people are left leaning - then the smart ones grow up and go right. However I see lots of younger people (I’m an Xer) with Obama buttons on - I think their Barack-love is more a matter of hipness than substance.

who in the majority are willing to think through the subtleties of some of the hottest hot-button issues of the time

Really, John? Why don't you sit down with a collegiate Obamaite or two and see how well they've really thought through some of those hot-button issues. Go ahead.

Then try reading your own column with a straight face.

More wishful thinking by the Rats. They ALWAYS hang their hats on the Generation X'ers and the Generation X'ers ALWAYS let them down.

Remember Kerry's "Rock the Vote" fiasco?

When the vote was given to 18 year-olds, a big mistake was made. That mistake was giving the vote to college students. It should have been limited only to 18 - 21 year-olds serving in the military or working full time. All too many college students know everything without the benefit of understanding much of anything. College is not the real world any more than high school is. And it would be hard to find a bigger group of fad followers than college students. Let them get away from their little fantasy world bubble called the campus and become eligible to vote once they’ve assumed real world responsibilities.

I know it won’t happen, but we’d have a more rational group of younger voters if it did.

GENERATION OBAMA FIRST TIME VOTERS ARE GLOBAL, DIVERSE, COLORBLIND AND LOVE BARACK (Gen-Y alert)

But one thing they all have in common is that they are uncommonly stupid. They are able to say they want Obama but they are incapable of giving a meaningful reason for it.

Its all about the company you keep.. this kids are for Fauxbama crap is just that... crap. They are not a uniform voting block... just because some reporter hangs out at a student union for a day and hears folks talking about Fauxbama doesn’t mean that every student there is going to vote for him.

The only college aged people I know who have told me they intend to vote for them are both Ivy Leaguers whos parents are major democrats.

What I have noticed is folks who are Fauxbama supporters are more in your face about who they are supporting, but that’s a general trend among liberals in general.

Generation Y are a bunch of idiots. They have learned nothing in the colleges they occupy. They believe gas comes from the Gas Fairy. Money is no object because they all have a scam to fall back on when mommy or daddy is short on cash. They all claim the rest of the world is better than America but refuse to move to these “better” places. The girls dance like they have a corn-cob stuck up their ____. The guy's dance like dogs humping legs. They believe the cure for everything is smoke a joint and drink a 12 pack. Generation Y claims they have all the answers for everything yet everything they touch becomes a bigger problem. Generation Y thinks they are cute with their underwear showing pants that their parents paid $150 for but that so-called cuteness has long worn off when they hit the age of 29.

Hipness and celebrity status. That’s how kids learn today. Celebs are their role models. And if these kids get out the vote (do they still call it Rock the Vote?), combined with busloads of Dems taken to vote, we could be in trouble.

I think this generation is going to get a lesson in applied Marxism by putting Obama over the top.

I think you're right. I'm at the "early-wave" of Gen Y, so I'm old enough to remember that a large part of "Clinton's great economy" was Newt's Contract with America.

But I don't think Obama's younger supporters will cut him much slack. When they learn the lesson in applied Marxism they'll be angry. They are young & naive enough to think that Obama is the new FDR - in reality he will prove to be more like Hoover.

Personally, I might only be 26 but I've had enough of the Republi-Donkey-crats and their federal government to last a lifetime. Don't count my generation out yet - we have a fierce independent streak that can be seen in the sharply rising number of young people starting up their own businesses. We are disproportionately interested in politics, and we go head-to-head with the dinosaur media on our blogs.

We might 'experiment' with socialism a little bit in college, but we can also see the failures of our 'flower-power' elders. If Strauss & Howe's generational theory holds, people my age are of the same cohort as Thomas Jefferson and today's 14 year olds are of the same cohort as Madison.

Nicknamed "The Republican Generation"
[They] grew up as the precious object of adult protection during an era of rising crime and social disorder. They came of age highly regarded for their secular optimism and spirit of cooperation. As young adults, they achieved glory as soldiers, brilliance as scientists, order as civic planners, and epic success as statecrafters.

Trusted by elders and aware of their own historic role, they burst into politics at a young age. They dominated the campaign to ratify the Constitution and filled all the early national cabinet posts. In midlife, they built canals and acquired territories, while their orderly Federalist and rational Republican leaders made America a “workshop of liberty.”

I know, I know.. Almost too good to be true. I have to be optimistic because the alternatives stink.

I wonder how many of them will feel when they find out the internet the can’t live without is far more likely to face restrictions and regulation under the far left than under Republicans.
