Posted on 08/19/2008 5:40:49 PM PDT by Plutarch
Mike Huckabee on Tuesday said he has not been approached by John McCain about being the U.S. presidential candidate's running mate. But he'd certainly consider the offer.
Huckabee said he didn't think anyone who has run for the U.S. presidency would turn down a chance to be vice president. The former Arkansas governor dropped out of the presidential race last March after McCain clinched the Republican nomination.
Speaking to reporters in Jerusalem, Huckabee said he has received "no indication" that McCain is considering him as a running mate. But if asked, Huckabee said it would be hard to resist.
"I don't think anybody that runs for president turns around and says no," he said. Still, he said he did not consider himself a candidate, adding it would be "disrespectful" to suggest names.
McCain may name his running mate between the end of the Democratic convention on Aug. 28 and the start of the Republican convention on Sept. 1

somebody please, shut the Huck up...
Maybe he should try Obama, I hear he wants to appeal to the evangelical vote.
In other news, I’d consider being offered the winning lottery numbers for Friday.
Schmuckabee????????/ G-d Forbid! Ptui!
I’m sure he was just answering a reporter’s question ... hard to fault him there.
But it’s not going to be Huck.
DON’T MESS WITH ARKANSAS!
Thanks for the humor, Huck! I appreciate his charm and speaking skills, but his nanny state sentiments are a liability.
I say let him be McCain’s HHS Secretary.
Usually this is the equivalent of the kid that jumps up and down with his hands in the air screaming “Pick Me! Pick Me!”
Of course, those are the kids that get picked last.
If Chucklebee is the V.P. choice, count me out.
He’s another smarmy, nanny-state elitist.
Used Car Salesman
Hahahahaha That’s ok Mike I think McCain has the job filled already. lol
Huck has spent too much time on his political knees in the past few months to even be considered. ;-)
What, wasn’t Dennis Kucinich available ? Hey, if Huckster and Slick Willard think they’re qualified...
jeez, thank goodness this idiot has NOT be approached about the VP slot....he’s dreaming if he thinks that’s a possibility....I just have a problem with ANYONE from Hope Arkansas....
ROFL and absolutely
I needed a good laugh tonight............
This guy makes me sick. he had a chance on MSNBC to slam Rev. Wright and not once did he do it. It looked like he was defending Wright.... sickening.....
Talk about being desperate...get a life!
What? I just posted a straight news story concerning Huckabee. What is desperate about that?
I think she’s saying Huckabee is desperate.
Not you haha.
Upon further review, I get it. You were talking about Huck wanting to be Veep, not me posting the article. Overly sensitive I am.
‘Ol Huck needs to keep them childruns in Lardburgers, and Pizzas somehow!
I’m increasingly confident that Romney won’t be nominated. He’ll probably serve on McCain’s cabinet should McCain become President, perhaps Secretary of the Treasury. And don’t worry, it’s increasingly clear that the Tom Ridge speculation was a publicity stunt.
Don Carcieri has a lot of good qualities- conservative, Catholic, ethnic (not sure what ethnicity, I think he’s part Italian), record of winning cross-over votes. I wish McCain had considered him more seriously. You’ve spoken of him highly, as well. There’s still time and hope, IMHO.
I am currently fixated on a much-overlooked part of the electorate. They are moderate independents who voted for Gore and Kerry reluctantly, but cringe at Obama. I’m surprised no one has spoken of this group. Many, though far from all, are Jewish. And I think this group could be swung into the Republican column without McCain or the party moving to the left. McCain’s independent image attracts them, but they’re not sold on him yet, as many of them don’t usually vote Republican. But in addition to being conservative, the running mate should be urban and northern. At least that’s my take. Nothing against Mark Sanford, he’s a great governor, but I believe this small voting bloc will decide the election.
Always a pleasure,
Whoops, that was supposed to be a private reply.
Oh do forgive me, dear Plutarch. Yes, the Huckster needs to get a life. ;)
Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
I like Huckabee, but I don’t think it should go to anybody who had been a candidate. The primary was too divided for any of those people - including Huckabee or the ur-liberal Romney - to be a good VP candidate.
It wasn’t directed at you. Huckabee is desperate.
I just love it. These egotistical pandering career politicians are precious. God Bless them. They are fodder for abuse. Endless material.
To be added please FReepmail me or OB1KNOB.
Selecting either would be very divisive. McCain should make a more uniting selection.
And let’s flush the idea of bookend nanny stater Romney while were at it.
I hope he picks Palin, but I bet he picks Huckster.
What the huck?!
Bud Light presents:
...(Real men of genius)
Today we salute you, Mr. Mike Huckabee paid FR campaign shill!
...(Mr. Mike Huckabee paid FR campaign shill)
What does a liberal Republican do when he is afraid to face grass roots conservatives himself? He pays his coffee and errand boy minimum wage to do it for him
...(skim milk with three sweet and lows)
Sitting in a cubicle at campaign headquarters you search Conservative websites like the NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Salon, CNN and Daily Kos looking for favorable articles about the Huckster to post on FR
...(oooh, here's one from DU!)
Armed with nothing but talking points from Hucks' website, you attempt to convince conservatives that your candidate is not a Christian socialist or a pro-life Democrat
...(Jesus would want amnesty for illegals)
When FReepers say Huck is a fiscal liberal, algore loving environmental wacko, open border amnesty pusher, violent criminal pardoner, Jimmy Carter foreign policy appeaser, nanny state smoker banner you provide the brilliant original response...a link to his campaign website
...(copy, paste, copy, paste)
Conservatives? We don't need no stinkin' Conservatives!
All we need is a leftist who is pro-life, has an R next to his name, and talks about Jesus.
...(Praise the Lord!)
So crack open an ice cold Bud Light, oh Karl Rove of the blogosphere, because when a FReeper runs for office, we'll be calling you...

Dear Schmuckabee: Please STFU and go away.
Palin would be perfect.
Smart. Conservative. Young. We need to build a farm system.
Doesn’t hurt that she is a woman and attractive, but that is secondary.
I’ll also proudly accept the VP position and I will change my screen name if nominated.
I’ll take Mitt. He’s seen the error of his ways and changed.
Huck still doesn’t and never will get conservatism. He is a nice guy and would be a great pro-life Democrat who we could respect in the other party.
sorry, dano, I forgot the courtesy ping.
When you/they come back here for the Huck 2012 primary run, you can respond.
Good luck to you until then. I wish you well.
Someone needs to “gong” the Huskster off the stage...
His 15 minutes of fame are long over already and not a moment too soon..
It worries me that this collection of “candidates” are the best this Republic can round up in a time of crises....
Where have all the leaders gone?
Go away already, Mr. Yuckster.
Mitt is on H&C right now...says he will not advise McCain and would be honored to serve as VP. I’m cheering for Mitt and just by watching this interview I think it’s him. ;)
