What the Russian hotheads are saying is that in accepting the U.S. ABM base Poland has just earned itself some pre-targeted instant buckets of sunshine if an all out war breaks out and it goes nuclear.

If so, the only question becomes,

1. Are the Russians so dumb they don't understand that this would go without saying?, or

2. Do they think we're so dumb we don't understand that this goes without saying?

Again, your version of what Russia's saying would be like saying if Canada launches nukes against us, we'll launch nukes against them. Such a thing is probably the truth. But so? When was this not true? And why would anyone say this, because why would Canada launch nukes against us in the first place?

Similarly, why would Russia emphasize that if they were in a war (against?) NATO, they would take out Poland's missile sites? so what? and why would "an all out war break out" between Russia and NATO of all things, in the first place? Wars just don't "break out" randomly for no reason, like acne. What exactly do the two sides have to fight a war over, besides Russia's recent idiotic behavior? This still boils down to Russia's paranoia. Poland doesn't want to attack freaking Russia, for crying out loud, and neither do we. Who the hell wants to attack Russia? Who the hell even wants any part of Russia?

Either Russian leaders are very good at bluffing and pretending to be paranoid, or they are genuinely paranoid.

Your interpretation of these statements from Russia is far more innocent (and rational) than the reality.

It’s more of a tantrum because the shield has just neutered Russia’s attack dog Iran,

Who says they will use nukes? I think they might unleash biowarfare quitely while distracting with nuke bluster...a weaponized flu virus perhaps.

The problem with your statement is that it assumes that one would ever think that any demoncrat candidate would ever hold a position based on actual merits of the position. All liberal candidates make statements to garner votes, never taking into account the veracity of the position. Hence why no demoncrat should ever step foot in the White House other than to receive a good dressing down by a Republican President.

Would NATO protect Poland ?

Could NATO protect Poland ?

Would the EU put up any fight at all ?

Or is Putin bluffing ?

Remember, Europe is increasingly dependant on Russia for oil and, especially, natural gas.

We should fire up our Liberty Ships in anticipation of sending coal to Poland. Let’s send them the dirtiest stuff we can find. They can site their coal plants so that all the crap blows downwind onto Russia.

Well, technically, as a NATO member, in the event of an attack by Russia, all members are required to come to Poland’s aid. And since Poland is also an EU member, it will draw the entire EU into the conflict, as well.

Because the Russians claim that those same missile silos can be used to launch offensive missiles at them.

I read a book called, “Will Islam Be Our Future?”, and it talked about how the Muslims believe in a Messiah coming, called the “Mahdi,” and yes, they do believe in an “Antichrist,” as well.

Oh? The Russians full well that these are limited to defensive interceptors, and their location in Poland makes them no threat to most Russian ICBMs which are clustered along the trans-Siberian railroad in eastern Russia.

Poland is along the great circle route from Iran and the Middle East to the USA and Europe. That's why the missiles will be there, not to target Russian missiles whose tracks are thousands of miles to the east, from Siberia over the North Pole to the US.

You have to stop reading the Washington Post and the New York Times.

I suggest pointing every nuke we currently have in the ground at Russia and putting them on a failsafe hair trigger. Send periodic signals out from DC an several other obvious high profile targets in the US, and if more than 50% of those signals stop being received, launch everything.

Maybe throw a few humans in the loop for good measure.

And, regarding the rest of the world - let them go communist if they want. I could really care less.

Of course they know we have no intentions of attacking them. But they are offended that we would dare to stop them from bullying their neighbors into submission. We have to call them on this before they get stronger and pose a bigger threat. Right now, our military is much stronger and technologically superior to theirs. In other words, we are holding a royal flush compared to their small pair.

“Just think if we started DRILLING NOW for oil where we would be in 8-10 years. “

Combined with nuclear coal-to-oil refineries and thermal conversion refineries.

“Because the Russians claim that those same missile silos can be used to launch offensive missiles at them.”

I know, but that puzzles me that they would even try it considering they are likely to be granted the right to inspect the silos.

When Hitler attacked Poland in ‘39, I wonder if he entertained the idea that a 3rd World War might start over Poland in the 21st century?
