Cindy McCain Heading to Republic of Georgia
Washington Post ^ | Aug. 25 2008 | Michael Shear

Posted on 08/25/2008 7:09:36 PM PDT by mngran2

Cindy McCain, wife of Sen. John McCain, is headed to the Republic of Georgia, where tensions between the government and Russia have sparked international concern and have become an issue on the presidential campaign trail.

McCain announced to a group of fundraisers in Sacramento that his wife was headed to the country, but the campaign did not provide any details about the trip.

McCain has been very aggressive in his condemnation of Russia's invasion of Georgia, and his campaign has been critical of Obama's more measured response when Russian tanks first pushed into the country.

McCain spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker confirmed Cindy McCain is enroute to the nation and said she is visiting as part of the World Food Program. She said she will meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and visit with wounded Georgian soldiers.

I'm sorry, but what the heck is this all about? She's not first lady yet. I would be flipping out if Michelle Obama were being sent to Georgia, and I'm pretty close to it with Cindy McCain going. Seems very inappropriate to me.

Cindy McCain has been very active throughout the last two decades in helping to raise awareness of injustice and poverty overseas. This is very much within her interests, and not some election year ploy.

Cindy McCain has been doing this for years. Think “Princess Di.” Only this time it gets reported.

And yes, it’s a nice move for the campaign.

Its not political.
Its about humantarian aid.
The McCains vacationed there last year.
They are personal friends of the Georgian Prez.

I think it’s terrific. McCain is, to speak metaphorically, putting his money where his mouth is—that is, showing his support for Georgia by sending his wife there.

Cindy McCain has had her problems, but she is very generous in helping people out. The murderous Russians have gone in and raped a small country with impunity. Bush ignored it for three whole days before he started to help out—a day late and a dollar short.

McCain is telling Putin to be careful. Obama, on the other hand, is pretty much signalling Putin that he can do whatever he likes, a very dangerous policy.

Cindy McCain has been doing extensive charitable work in poor countries for decades. Formerly she shunned publicity. Now, I am sure John McCain's advisers are going to make sure that she is surrounded by photographers.

Think Princess Di?

Did Princess Di have a drug problem? Did she steal drugs from charity boxes?

Princess Di had many problems but she didn’t do any of that. Cindy did. Princess Di didn’t date married men either.

I will probably vote for McCain but it will be in spite of Cindy McCain and not because she’s Mother Teresa/Princess Di incarnate.

The McCains are close to the Georgians and Cindy McCain has been very active in helping others. She is the wife of the GOP nominee and a Senator, but she is also an American citizen with the means.

The US government and the Georgian government have no problem with it and she is going to show her concern, care, and solidarity. She will not be negotiating with the Georgians as a representative of the US government, but she certainly can visit and help as an individual citizen.

I applaud of her actions. She is showing up the angry Michele at every turn...and not because she is trying to either...just because of the type of person she is.

I haven’t checked out Snopes to find out if these things are accurate. Where did you hear this from? I’ve never heard these things before.

Unfortunately it’s true. Cindy McCain stole drugs from charity boxes, she forged names on prescriptions, and then tried to destroy the person who reported it. If you go to google and type in the words: cindy mccain stole drugs - you’ll get the links. You’ll see the snopes link too.

We’re in a bind in this election. There is no question Obama is out of the question and his angry wife is too. So we’re going to have to vote for McCain.

I’ll probably do that. However, his campaign should not be trying to turn Cindy into a Mother Teresa or Princess Di. She is neither. She’s an opportunistic woman who bought a married man.

Some people have “messy” lives. It’s how they handle the mess that we should judge — though pointing fingers at human failings is more fun.

She works with many organizations that provide surgery for kids and adults, prosthetics, food and medical relief... and she goes around the world on a constant basis. She is a marvelous example of a humanitarian and she is doing the job that she has been doing for years. satan’s b!tch will be attending a fund raiser for some radical, racist, black power church.

It is not fun at all to point out that a woman who might become the First Lady has committed those crimes

Cindy McCain would probably be in a federal prison except her husband, John McCain, pulled strings to get the charges dropped and to keep her out of prison.

To depict her as a wonderful person doing wonderful, charitable things is wrong.

A wonderful charitable person doesn’t steal pain medications from people in pain. A wonderful charitable person does not try to destroy the employee who reports the theft.

As I said, most of us will probably vote for McCain. Probably. It doesn’t mean we have to like him. It doesn’t mean we have respect for his wife.

“Did Princess Di have a drug problem?”

Yes, in fact she did... Cocaine according to the Discovery Channel's bio special a couple of years back. She also drank and abused prescription pills, according to those who knew her in turbulent times.

“Did she steal drugs from charity boxes?”

You have no idea what she did or didn't do.

“Princess Di had many problems but she didn’t do any of that.”

There is no way to know just what sort of troubles she was involved with. One thing is for certain and that is that she was a very troubled woman.

“Cindy did. Princess Di didn’t date married men either.”

No but she screwed around while she was married... but I guess was ok because she was a Princess... and Charles was a toad.

In the 1990s Cindy, Dr. Frist, and others made trips to Rwanda where million+ were starved to death.
She walked over the dead bodies to find those still living to help.
She has done a number of works like this over the years

Durasell! You are very naughty! LOL

Seriously, this election is not an optimal one. We can’t have Obama in the White House and McCain is our alternative.

He’s not the a great alternative but he’s the only one we have.

Depending on who he chooses for his VP I will probably vote for him. But I will never consider his wife someone I could respect. The pain medication she stole could have alleviated some poor person’s suffering. Not only did she get away with it she destroyed the person who reported her.

I’ll probably vote for McCain but I will never have respect for his wife.

In 1989, Cindy underwent back surgery twice for ruptured discs. But the operations failed to ease the pain.
She was taking pain medication she wasn’t a coke head.

Glad you appreciated the joke.

But in all seriousness — we are very, very far beyond the whole “look at the wife” thing. The country is facing some serious problems and we need a serious leader.

You are so right. The contry is facing some very serious problems. We need a serious leader. We cannot have someone like Obama in the White House.

The McCain campaign should stress the issues and the problems. They should not be pushing Cindy as the new Mother Teresa.

yeah, and every time a candidate or his wife goes some place like this, it costs us taxpayers a fortune for the Secret Service protection.

this is crap.

I must have missed something. Where have you read that she is now a blonde Mother Teresa or that anyone is trying to portray her that way?

http://www.johnmccain.com/About/Cindy.htm

There is an article there about Cindy and on the right are some links to past humanitarian trips she has gone on - most recently to Rwanda with Sen Frist and Mike Huckabee.

She probably funds most of these trips on her own.

JMHO...Cindy going to the Republic of Georgia give’s me an impression of maturity, of an adult involved in matters of substance. John gives off the same vibes. The Obama’s on the other hand give the impression of lackadaisical, narcissistic juveniles, concerned more with their own personage and what they feel is due it.

..........The pain medication she stole could have alleviated some poor person’s suffering..........

Get over it!!! She did what she did, like so many others, Rush included.

Your choice is a total empty suit; or a war vet who spent three decades in the senate.

And, your problem is some drugs his wife took that could have been better used to help a poor person’s suffering???

We’re taking about the potential future of civilization as we know it, and single issue voters are concerned about Cindy taking some drugs, or when is a fetus a human??

If Obama and the RATS take over congress AND the executive branch, we have no worries like interest rates, home values, tax rates:
We have worries over whether home insurance covers war losses, once Iran and other rag-heads; N Korea; China; and the resurgent Russia tries to decide who is the most powerful nation in the world! A few nucs, detonated far away, will impact you and your family for mega years. Bush understands that; yet Pelosi is still on the marriage alter with some SF queers, who may have a life span of another six months! A Total Strategic Loser!

We have choices - this election isn’t about abortion, or a wife’s pain medication.

This is fantastic!! When she returns, she will have equaled Obama in foreign policy experience. Maybe she is taking the Hillary route in trying to succeed her husband after his first term ends.
