We are pleased to launch the John McCain-Sarah Palin 2008 web site!

Sarah Palin is currently the Governor of Alaska and assumed office in 2006. She is also the first female governor of Alaska.

We are confident Sarah Palin will make an excellent Vice Presidential candidate with John McCain and we congratulate her on her impeccable record of public service!

“...And what does it say about the Republican Party’s commitment to “family values”, when it sees fit to nominate a mother of 5 children, including a disabled, still-nursing infant, to be VP and step in as POTUS if necessary?”

You must think the Prez needs to work 14 hour days like a Hitler instead of some nice six hour days like a Reagan. The best chief executive makes good appointments and then referees diferences between them. The best is a laid back Chairman of the Board, smoking his pipe or eating his Jelly Bellies and making earthshaking decisions with ease. A mother of five can handle this easily.

McCain landslide in November!!!!

How the heck is he supposed to make a campaign issue out of Obama’s inexperience when he’s got a running mate with 2 years as governor of a sparsely populated state while being a full-time mother, um, on the side?

He can't.

He has taken the inexperience issue off the table. He can't criticize Obama's lack of experience when his own #2 has no national experience and only eighteen months in statewide office. She's clearly not ready to be President, so that issue's gone forever.

McCain is clearly gambling two things:

  1. that the drilling issue will carry the day; and
  2. Women will vote identity politics first and foremost.

I don't know, seems like a stretch in both cases. It's a gutsy pick on McCain's part, but since it throws away one of his strengths I don't see it as a particularly smart one.

Palin is now running for a job which includes having to step into the job of President on a second's notice, if the need arises. Given McCain's age, that will be perceived as a very significant possibility (and this possibility should always be taken seriously, regardless of who the Presidential candidate is). I never worried for a second about Cheney's ability's to take over immediately as a fully effective President, if Bush were to suddenly die or become incapacitated.

I also suspect this choice will cause a resurgence of the dangerous belief among young women that they don't have to make any hard choices in life. That they can pursue careers with extremely high levels of power and responsibility, while still being good mothers. Sure there are a handful of women who seem to be able to pull this off, but even with those few who appear to be pulling it off successfully, I wonder if their children agree. The nation will now be treated to 2 months of non-stop professional promotion of the idea that there's no conflict at all between being VPOTUS/POTUS/CEO of a Fortune 500 company, etc., and being a mother to several children, including an infant with special needs, and millions of young women will figure "See, that means I can do it".

I’m not sure but I think this site is one that has been up for a while and was started by supporters of Palin. I don’t think it’s the official site of the campaign.

Thanks for posting it and thanks to Mark for saying it. Saves me from expressing the exact thoughts. If Obama wants to bring up experience, bring it on!

Sorry large, but you’re DEAD wrong.

This was a brilliant pick for McCain. Her conservative credentials are rock-solid. And don’t spew your crap about how the pick is anti-family values when she is raising an infant with down syndrome (as you alluded to). That shows her commitment to family values and McCain’s as well.

In short, stuff it. For awhile.

Hah

Great pick Mr. President!

This is awesome, brilliant and a really over the top move.

Did you hear that bell on the bus? The HRC supporters that just got on last night now want to get off. Palin is dang near bullet-proof. What can Odrama say about her without further enflaming pumas?

I woke up with the TV on replaying last night’s sermon and had to go the dog park and listen to my liberal friends go on and on. So I was pretty bummed.

But now this...I am so stoked and ready to get to work for McCain/Palin right after the convention. Woo-Hoo!!!

I want to know who made the Susan Estrich robot that we've been seeing lately.

What happened to the old Estrich?

The pick makes history in that an American from outside the continental 48 is on a major party ticket and it draws attention also to Alaska's importance to America's energy future.

The best part of this is that I’d pay a lot of money to watch Ms. Palin debate that dimwit Biden.

Whois shows it as an anonymous registration - it may be a squatter.

Yes, even if she is the nominee, this site means nothing in itself.

Crossing my fingers that she is, though.
