CNN reports that the RNC Convention will turn into a telethon and a community service outlet for 4 days if Hurricane Gustav destroys cities along the gulf coast.
McCain campaign is presently going over options. He refuses to have the convention be a party atmosphere during time of tragedy and crisis CNN Reports.
Developing...
he he, YES!
McCain and President Bush likely to be on gulf coast this week to view impact points. Speeches being recorded to tape just in case.
No way is this political. /s
Oooh. Call me insensistive, but is this really a time of tragedy and crisis? What will we call it when something really bad happens?
Micheal Moore said it didn’t he, that Gustav was an act of God? Well, God knows that American’s are decent people. And our next President, John McCain is doing the just and honorable thing by helping those in need.
I’m sorry, but I’m already suffering from NOLA victim fatigue, and Gustav is 2 days away.
Well let’s see...so far Gustav killed 74 people as a tropical storm and Cat 1 hurricane. It will be hitting populated cities with Category 4 winds at landfall on Monday afternoon.
The worst part of the storm is forecast to be over major populated areas. People will again lose everything they own and the storm is forecast to stall just as it crosses over land with up to 30 inches of rain expected.
Tragedy? Crisis?
You bet.
Definitely, Fay was a nothing storm weather wise and killed 10 floridians, and flooded thousands and hundreds lost everything.
So McCain and the GOP are about to push the envelope of political correctness. OMG!
I hear ya...especially with friends in Waveland and Hancock County etc..in Miss. I am of the opinion that if it does strike the N.O. area again...time to ban all residential living areas and turn it into business and shipping ONLY. Move everyone in 20 miles inland.
Someway, somehow, the pundits and networks will spin it as grandstanding. There ain’t no way that they are going to let the Jerk Messiah not ascend to his proper role as Comrade in Chief.
We had 22 inches at my house in Fla from Fay...St.Johns River still not safe.
The RNC will obviously center its focus FOR the people instead of the PERSON.
Every day and every event coincides and fits together, America still retains its core as “the sleeping giant’, and it is awakening.
WTG, John. All those delegates working the phones, speeches suspended, candidates making the televised pleas.
When is the GOP going to raise money for our fellow Floridians suffering from the tropical storm last week? Many are suffering from devistasting flooding. Honestly, this is silly pandering.
Inspired . . !! Count me in. Wow! If the Dems with all that Obama-adoring crowd in that stadium had only taken up a collection for the “poor”, they could have defeated poverty in our lifetime. Too late, too bad, so sad . . . ANYTHING that yahoo does now is going to look SO “me too” it isn’t even funny. - SO yammer on Dems, and watch a Republican governor handle it like a grownup while Blanco and Nagin whine.
Is Jerry Lewis available?
Now if we could just find something useful for all the mccain spam posters to do.
“So McCain and the GOP are about to push the envelope of political correctness. OMG!”
No, they’re quite sensibly (IMO) going to show that conservatives believe in acting personally when there’s a problem. Good on ‘em! Besides, you know the lefties would be making an issue of the RNC ‘partyers’ while others are in the midst of an emergency. Let’s not give them the chance.
All righty...You're insensitive!
Click on the youtube link in my tagline to hear DNC chairman Don Fowler laugh at the thought of a hurricane hitting New Orleans.
You just know Nagin is going to walk the city with Obama and Kanye West and Oprah and Michelle Obama etc...feeling their pain with Biden, Hillary, and Bill in-tow.
Pointing out all along the way the reminder of Katrina.
The contrast with the party atmosphere of the Democratic National Convention will be huge, and it'll even shut up one Mark Cuban (remember when Cuban said in his weblog in early 2005 the White House should cancel the Presidential inauguration festivities and use the money to donate to the 2004 tsunami relief?).
If the GOP wants to do something smart, they will have Jindal, Perry, Bush, et al., appear by satellite, giving comments that combine their planned speeches with appropriate messages about how they are on the job re: Gustav.
But if you think of the DNC, for instance, or any convention, there are huge swaths of time filled with patronage addresses by nobodies, and other time fillers like music, Macarena, whatever.
Using that time instead to raise funds/attention for Gustav victims would be pretty smart.
Looks like Gustav is expected to make landfall to the west New Orleans which means NO could get a rather high storm surge.
I could just see the commercials that are probably already in the can. Pics of a second hurricane and pics of the Republicans laughing it up at the convention. I believe this is a smart move.

Yeah. I know they have equipped the platforms to take Cat 3 plus, I just hope they hold.
Also, lets hope the damage on the refineries are at a minimum. This could be a very expensive Winter.
Well we can hope that Gustav will wash all of the remmnant of Katrina and the libs walking and feeling the pain into nowhere land.

There is NO POSSIBLE WAY if the RNC puts on the convention they were planning that it wouldn’t lose the election for the Republicans. Like it or not, the conventiion will have to be done another way. How it sits with the public is impossible to say.
This goes along perfectly with McCain’s “Country First” slogan.
Your joking. This is so political.
Where they hell has the RNC been on our Southern Border. Thats a dam hurricane and tragedy every day.
Its a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” we all know how this will be spun

YES!!!
It’s like someone on McCain’s team is reading FR :-)
Country first.
Indeed.
Oh brother........
Not for me...But it certainly will be for the folks in the hurricane's path...
I wonder why Obama doesn’t just go to the Louisiana coast himself, raise his arms and make it go away.
Assuming they do, it's a great argument on the side of offshore drilling and the safety of same.
Remember, it was the oil platforms built by the eeeeevil oil companies that survived Katrina. The federally built levees failed.
If the GOP goes through with this silliness, they better have a very open, transparent and accurate accounting of every dollar donated and where it went. Any errors or murkiness will be exploited to the fullest. IMO, the GOP is opening itself up for a PR nightmare.
This is just plain STUPID.
I can see them postpone it, but they are basically giving up having a convention, when McCain needs to have people see the speeches that give reasons to vote for him. He is sacrificing his election chances and the whole country.
And just when the Republicans started to act like they actually want to win. This is NOT going to help.
Postpone, yes, if necessary — I can understand that.
But “substituting” a convention with “community work” is crazy.
Once again, the Republican Party is eager to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Lets not overreact and maybe give the liberal establishment more ammunition to crack over the head of McCain's campaign. The outcome here could easily be a lose lose situation for the GOP.
