In Palin’s Life and Politics, Goal to Follow God’s Will [NYT]

Shortly after taking office as governor in 2006, Sarah Palin sent an e-mail message to Paul E. Riley, her former pastor in the Assembly of God Church, which her family began attending when she was a youth. She needed spiritual advice in how to do her new job, said Mr. Riley, who is 78 and retired from the church.

“She asked for a biblical example of people who were great leaders and what was the secret of their leadership,” Mr. Riley said.

He wrote back that she should read again from the Old Testament the story of Esther, a beauty queen who became a real one, gaining the king’s ear to avert the slaughter of the Jews and vanquish their enemies. When Esther is called to serve, God grants her a strength she never knew she had.

Mr. Riley said he thought Ms. Palin had lived out the advice as governor, and would now do so again as the Republican Party’s vice-presidential nominee.

“God has given her the opportunity to serve,” he said. “And God has given her the strength to carry out her goals.”

Ms. Palin’s religious life — what she believes and how her beliefs intersect or not with her life in public office in Alaska — has become a topic of intense interest and scrutiny across the political spectrum as she has risen from relative obscurity to become Senator John McCain’s running mate.

Interviews with the two pastors [snip] point to a firm conclusion: her foundation and source of guidance is the Bible, and with it has come a conviction to be God’s servant.

An attack of secular aggression against a believing Christian. What do you expect from the NYT.

Do you think the NYT will interview Rev Wright to try to "point to a firm conclusion" regarding the true beliefs of Obama and Michelle??

I’ve said this on another thread, but it bears repitition. All the writers at the NY Times have to do is replace the concept of God with truth or the good or rightness. Is it wrong to want to be in the right? Is it wrong to want to be on the side of truth?

I wonder when the Times will have to declare bankruptcy? before or after the election?

I bet the Great Trust which holds the class b ( only the trusts holds the voting stock) will fold soon.

For a newspaper who backs death taxes funny how they put the company in Trust to avoid FDR taxes.

It’s pretty amazing that Wasilla Bible Church draws 800 - 1,000 people in a city of just 9,000 people. Think about it. That is an amazing percentage. BTW, I went to the church website and randomly clicked on one of the sermons (on Habakkuk). It was a really good sermon. I can see why people in Wasilla who believe the Bible would want to attend that church. Great teaching.

Palin’s religion is America’s religion.

“She clings bitterly to it and her guns.”

We’ve got them on the run! Hee hee hee

This is the latest from the atheist, P Z Myers’ web site:

This is how we will lose - PZ Myers

Palin scares me, but what worries me more is that we will screw up again and hand the executive office over to another gang of losers, and we can’t afford that anymore. Now look at the open thread http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2008/09/palin_open_thread.php I set up last night, and you’ll see why I’m concerned. What did people do? They got distracted by irrelevancies, such as the opportunity to exercise a little macho sexism, and then that turned into a nasty, full-blown knife fight with everyone snarling at each other. This is exactly what the Republicans want, writ small on this little tiny island of the blogosphere.

That’s not how we’re going to beat back the troglodytes.

Palin is a stalking horse for failed social and economic and military policies. We don’t want to get drawn away from the important message of defeating those bad policies by the temptation of cheap shots at her appearance and sex, especially because those cheap shots make her look like a sympathetic victim and help advance the Republican agenda.

So please, think. Casual sexism plays into the hands of the bad guys on both sides. What frightens me most is that Palin got up and lied and said nothing of substance, and people are so distracted by the fact that she has breasts that the lies were allowed to slide by. This is how the Democrats can self-destruct, once again.

You finally got one right, PZ. This IS how you will lose.

Even totally united behind Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004 you couldn’t beat a dumbass draft dodging reborn alcoholic George “Shrub” Bush and his snake-oil sidekick Dick Cheney of all people. That’s pretty pathetic. This round you’ve got an even worse candidate that half of your own party thinks stole the nomination by cheating and dirty politics. Your party is shattered up the middle and you have the worst candidate in all the decades I’ve been paying attention. I knew Jack Kennedy and your nominee, PZ, is no Jack Kennedy.

Now the culture war is still on, the players are all the same on both sides, except this time we have an honest-to-God centrist war hero, even if he is an elitist beltway insider, and a little unheard of cutie, obviously a political savant, who in 30 minutes won the hearts and minds of every heretofore apathetic God fearing blue collar flyover family all across the nation and made them start caring about who wins this election not to mention is stealing a lot of the Hillary voters who wanted nothing more than a woman in the Whitehouse. If McCain wins then Palin, sooner or later, is going to become the first woman president of the United States as by the time she’s up for election to the top spot there won’t be any question of lack of experience. You are basically looking at teh American Margaret Thatcher. Get used to her. She’s going to be in your face for the next 16 years. It’s all over except for the tears and anger from your side that you were f*cked yet again. Write that down.

One full week of searching for a way to discredit Sarah Palin (the throw everything at the wall approach has not worked) and the NY Times figures it has now found the answer...it will portray Palin as a religious nut. So tell me, what is the next step for stock when it goes below junk bond status?

When Dr. King said it he was applauded.

When a Conservative uses the exact same phrase they are called nuts and worse.

I expect pretty much what I get from the demoncrats: empty rhetoric, half-truths and lies.

I do think it’s hilarious though, that all the MSM are comparing our VP candidate to their P candidate. Heh heh. Now that’s what I call a loser’s strategy.

Please, MSM and B. Hussein, keep these low-down attacks coming. The first round of vicious slander got the heartland of America firmly behind Sarah... so, keep it up, numbskulls!!

Heh heh! Of all things, now they want to criticize her choice of CHURCHES!! I say it’s time to compare and contrast her church, with B. Hussein’s church! Wish I had some popcorn.
