Why I'm reversing course on John McCain
Vanity | Sept 9, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 09/08/2008 12:55:29 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Governor Sarah Palin! Or, actually, what she signifies.

We've often stated on FR that if the Republicans would only run true conservatives then we'd win more elections. We'd keep the White House, build conservative majorities in congress, replace liberal activist judges with original intent constitutionalists, and eventually overturn Roe v Wade and begin rolling back some of the damage inflicted upon our beloved republic by the socialists and liberals.

John McCain's bold choice of the unabashed pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-liberty, small government, strong defense, fiscal conservative, Sarah Palin, signifies a return to conservatism within the Republican Party.

And the fact that Republicans and conservatives of every stripe, including the Christian right are flocking to her side and that the conservative grassroots has been re-energized literally overnight is proof that when offered the choice of truly conservative candidates, conservatives and Republicans will react accordingly.

Even though I've stated in the past that I would not vote for McCain, I will be supporting this ticket. Governor Palin is a God-fearing, kick butt conservative and I'd much rather have her advising and standing in the wings for the presidency than Joe Biden. I'll definitely pull the lever for her. And I'll do all I possibly can to keep the America-hating Marxist Barack Hussein Obama out of the White House.

Do it for Life. Do it for Liberty. Do it for our troops. Do it for America!

I still don’t trust McCain further than I can throw him, but his choice of Palin shows that he can be held accountable to the base, and that makes it easier to pull that lever.

And, as my tagline says, I’m now looking ahead to greater things...

Katherine,

I clicked on your link and I was so pleased to read your bio and candidacy for 1st District SC. I pray that God will put a hedge of protection around you & your family from the smears & slanders & lies & arrows of the enemy (demonRATs). I pray for your victory in the coming election.

Likewise I pray that God will put a hedge of protection around Gov Sarah Palin & her family as well. It is electrifying & nearly unbelieveable to see the outpouring of enthusiasm & excitment that the nomination of Gov Sarah Palin for Republican VP has generated. I love reading & watching the daily meltdown of libs, lefties, demonRATs & lunatic media and ESPECIALLY B Hussein Obama as they struggle & fail to thwart the massive outpouring of love & support for Gov Sarah Palin and the Republican ticket of McCain/Palin.

Go Sarah!!!

“Can we be sure there will not be a repeat of abandoning social conservatives after the election, as has happened before?”

No. A dog usually returns to it’s vomit.

I’ll probably vote for Gov. Palin, but I’m not doing so thinking that the GOP is suddenly going to turn over a new leaf and treat conservatives any better than a battered spouse. It won’t. But it’s important to have conservative leaders regardless of their choice of political party.

If you could jump into a time machine and see a very young Ronald Reagan starting out in politics, would you support him? I think all of us would say YES! Well, here we have a woman who has the potential to be an American Margaret Thatcher. Will I support her? Regardless of my strong personal distaste for the GOP, I’m going to have a hard time saying anything other than YES!

Which is why conservatives should be looking beyond to 2012.
Another candidate will have to pick up on what McCain-Palin have tapped into. Part of this is anti-Obama movement in the campaign. Similar to Jimmy Carter in 1980.

John McCain is for amnesty and illegal aliens. That proves he is not for America.

My Maverick/Barracuda bumper stickers have already been ordered

Could I ask you for the website link, to order Maverick/Barracuda bumper stickers?

I checked GOP.com & JohnMcCain.com and they had other bumper stickers & stuff, but not the hard hitting ones like this. I loved seeing the T-shirts that folks were wearing in Alaska to welcome Gov Sarah Palin home as well!!!

“Which is why conservatives should be looking beyond to 2012.”

And beyond that as well. Unfortunately, conservatives have always tied their star to the GOP. Which is kind of silly, when you consider that the GOP’s reason for existence has nothing to do with conservatism per se; it exists to get it’s candidates elected.

One thing that I find very intriguing about Gov. Palin is that she is clearly not a GOP hack. An interesting video that is on youtube shows her giving a welcome address to the convention of the Alaska Independence Party when she was governor. Nothing in the way of “red meat”, but I found it very interesting that she would take the time to give a welcoming message for an opposition political party.

Now, how can John McCain also successfully become a true conservative, especially on the issues of: campaign finance reform (Instead, allow unlimited amounts of money donated by both individuals and groups, but under full disclosure to the general public of each and every penny, and finally end everything about it that’s truly unconstitutional!) illegal immigration (Full enforcement of all present laws, please!), full border security (for real), and on creating all “green politics” (McCain still believes in the existence of man-made global warming!) among all other issues that McCain still has serious problems with conservatives on? I’m impressed with Sarah Palin, but it’s truly still “maverick” John McCain that will be the next POTUS, if Barack Obama does successfully lose the ‘08 presidential race! All of the problems with illegal immigration will truly get much worse throughout the entire U.S., if amnesty for illegal immigration is allowed to happen, and both Barack Obama and John McCain are for amnesty for illegal immigrants! How can conservatives truly succeed in “holding McCain’s feet to the fire” on all of the issues that conservatives have problems with McCain on?

Sarah Palin is not symbolic, she is emblematic of what the Republican Party has become. I know Republicans, the back office, the door knockers, the sign wavers, the phone room. The “manpower” of the Republicans is women - Every event, every meeting, every activity, 60-70% women.

A good number of them are babes, they are conservative, patriotic and selfless.

I identify with them. God Bless ‘em all.

A Barack Obama/Ted Kennedy ticket would truly be made up of the most leftist U.S. Senators in Congress. Senator Biden is truly to the political right of both Barack Obama and Ted Kennedy!

The next U.S. Senate MUST BE a conservative majority as well, if conservatives are truly going to be successfully appointed to all future judicial vacancies, at the federal level!
