Sadly, it’s the same when I visit my parents. I’m 52 and they are 82 and 83. They are lifelong dems as were my grandparents on both sides of the family. Being a democrat is almost genetic and inescapeable. But RWR convinced me in 1980 the right way was the right way, and I’ve never gone back. Needless to say, we don’t discuss politics anymore because the tension gets too high. They don’t understand why I switched, and I can’t figure out they’re still associated with such a slutty party. Other than that, we get along fine :)

The working class has changed from Joe the factory worker to Joe the self-employed siding contractor(carpet cleaner,electrician,etc.)...the Dems still think it’s 1959....what self employed businessman/woman is going to vote for someone who is going to tax them out of business?

I think your rank-and-file democrats are well-meaning people (I mean the voters, not the partisan hacks). They get drawn in because the democrats say they ‘care’ and they want to ‘help people’. Who doesn’t want to help people?

The problem is that helping people is not the job of the federal government. Local community organizations help people. You could argue that the state governments help people.

That’s not what the federal government was created for, however, and it’s never been equiped to do it effectively or efficiently.

That’s what gets lost on your rank-and-file dems. IMO, of course.

It sounds like they were cut from the same cloth.

You know, I’m just surprised that I was able to say it first. Must be my lucky day. Perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket. :)

Sounds like we think alike on this. Should you be worried, or should I????

Any chance you would ever consider taking on your own party in the fight? Because I am sick of “Democrats” becoming RINO’s because of their innate cowardice. Am I supposed to welcome your “contribution of dilution”? It would be honorable for disaffected Democrats to become Independents, but that would go against Democrat ideology, wouldn't it?

Wow - I don't know where that judgmental rant came from. My point in my initial post was that I come from a Democrat background and when I was young I identified with that thought process, but that when I saw Ronald Reagan, it was as if a part of me awakened and as I because a Republican.

I am not a RINO, thank you. I am socially and fiscally conservative, so you needn't worry about me diluting the party. And as for innate cowardice? I think it takes more courage to change paths that diverge from your extended social network because you see things differently.

Have you never heard the famous observation that, "If a man is a Republican at 20, he has no heart and if he is a Democrat at 40, he has no brain." Well, I was a Democrat until I was 20 and I have been a Republican since then (I am now 44).

Not so fast...

I voted for slick willie in 1992!
I didn’t know any better, and Bush Lied about “READ MY LIPS”.

My FIL died in 1993, but I wasn’t able to talk with him before his death.

That vote in 1992 has haunted me to this very day! And now I take ALL my votes very seriously. John McCain wasn’t going to get my vote until he named Sarah as his running mate!

Since then I’ve made a contribution of $50 to the McCain/Palin campaign...

More to follow when I have it.

My wife and I agre on one thing only!...

Sarah is OUR gal!

Below are a few of the goals from
The Communist Takeover Of
America - 45 Declared Goals
http://www.rense.com/general32/americ.htm
.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

Video; Obama- Disarm America:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl32Y7wDVDs
Transcript:
First, I’ll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I’m the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.
I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent “Defense Priorities Board” to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons.
To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture—education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

“The stunning comment from Democrat Sen. Barack Obama that the United States needs a “civilian national security force” that would be as powerful, strong and well-funded as the half-trillion dollar United States Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force have mysteriously disappeared from published transcripts of his speech.

On July 6th, Obama said, “”We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion. Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force as big and expensive as that?

Answer me this, Obamamessiah, just what are those national security objectives? Who is the “WE” who will set those objectives? How would such a force be used to achieve those objectives — oh, and will its members wear brown shirts?” http://www.theobamafile.com/ObamaPolitics.htm

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

Don’t worry about it — I voted the same way as you did in ‘92 and like you, I regret that vote to this day. The difference is, I should have known better.

McCain’s pick of Palin didn’t change my vote, just the reason for my vote.

Yup, far left libs dominate academia all the way through grad school. They also dominate Hollywood and entertainment in general. And...... they not only dominate the MSM, in many cases the MSM acts as an arm of the dem party.

Nice post, and I quite agree. I was raised Republican by my actively “political” side of the family, father and uncle. But my mother was raised Democrat, though she didn’t have a taste for political discussions.

Many times over the years, my friends and I’ve said that if the two you mentioned - Harry S. Truman and JFK - lived today, they’d be considered Conservatives (at least in many ways) and wouldn’t have gotten their party’s nomination.

My parents were lifelong FDR Democrats. My father was an American citizen born in Europe. Came here in ‘35. Signed up for the Marine Corps on Dec. 8, 1941. Served from ‘42 to ‘46, 5th Marine Corps Division, one mission, Iwo Jima. Recalled to duty for Korea in ‘51.

He always said that FDR was a little dictator and that it was an honor to serve under Truman.

I think JFK was the last democrat they ever voted for. They loved Reagan and despised the Clintons, escpecially Hillary.

"There is not teacher’s union in Virginia and she knows far more about VA and American history than I did about NY and American history when I was in school.

That is very refreshing to hear.

Where I live the Teachers unions dominate and schools have gone from teaching about the Founding Fathers and the great patriots to teaching about little known minority poets and promoting bi and homo sexualism.

At the same time they are concerned about falling grades and graduation rates. Their solution? Spend more money on the same new age curricula.
