In Search of Gov. Palin
NY Slimes ^ | 9/10/2008

It is well past time for Sarah Palin, Republican running mate, governor of Alaska and self-proclaimed reformer, to fill in for the voting public the gaping blanks about her record and qualifications to be vice president.

The best way to do that would be exactly what the campaign of John McCain is avoiding — an honest news conference. Instead, she has been the bell-jar candidate, barnstorming safe crowds with socko punch lines and plans for a single interview on ABC News built around a visit to Fairbanks, Alaska, and her hometown of Wasilla.

Just in time for that appearance, Ms. Palin, who was proclaiming her family’s privacy a week ago, will make a political event out of her son’s deployment to Iraq. But as for talking to reporters in general, the McCain campaign sniffishly says they must first show “some level of respect and deference.”

That is a peculiar response for someone who is campaigning as one tough, transparent politician who can take the heat. Why not some detailed questioning? With deference, we believe many questions will arise about this largely unknown politician as reporters properly search beyond the wholesome anecdotes.

Ms. Palin is positioning herself as the kind of politician who knows how to manage the people’s money. She got a big cheer from the Republican convention when Mr. McCain said she had put the Alaska governor’s private plane on eBay.

The running mates both failed to mention that it did not sell on eBay and that she unloaded it later to a businessman for a $600,000 loss. The Chicago Tribune reported that the majority of the plane’s time was used to transport prisoners from Alaska’s crowded jails to Arizona, a job now done by federal marshals.

They still keep digging on the same issues. I hope the Palin camp doesn't provide "deference" to the press by defending.

They need to stay on the offense.

They need to be careful about what they wish for. From what I see, she will do just fine in either an interview or press conference. I expect to see her in Town Hall meetings taking questions from voters.

The proper response from McCain/Palin would to just ignore the Slimes as if they didn't exist. NO ONE VOTING FOR THEM GIVES THE TINEST DAMN WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY OR THIER OPINION.

The press has shown themselves unworthy with their blantant bias. No need to cater to them at this point. If I remember right, she said she is not going to Washington to garner their good opinion. She owes them nothing.

Yes..It seems that little honesty exists in the MSM and people have had their eyes opened. Their goal is to eliminate Sarah.

As soon as the NYT does the same examination of Obama’s friends and fellow travelers.

I doubt the man could get a low level security clearance with his associations.

First the MSM knew enough about her to trash her as an inexperienced local mayor. Now they discover they hardly knew her and want her to answer questions.

How come they knew her enough then to trash her?

Notice how the oh-so title correct NY Times cannot bring themselves to call her “Mrs. Palin” yet they call the junior Senator from NY. she of the sham marriage, “Mrs. Clinton.”

Has this unnamed joker ever bought a new car, and checked its value the next day?

Who appointed the Slimes the Grand Inquisitor of the Republic? I’ve learned more about Sarah Palin in the last two weeks than about Obamalamadingdong in the last two years. Go pound sand slimes!

So what part of PTA, Mayor of Wasilla, Governor of Alaska, and a 86% approval rating from her constituents do they not understand?

Those searching for Gov Palin keep PUSHING Barry out of the way.. Since Barry has little or no experience to display toward making the tinyist of decisions.. Search for Barry Obama should be their main TASK.. Palin has GLARING examples of executive decisions.. Especially going thru Juneau(Alaska) like a dose of Ex-lax.. First in her OWN party and then zeroing in on the democrat party..

Apparently you don't have the mad bargaining skills of a NYT reporter. They actually sell used cars for more than they paid for them. Old property is worth more than new property, you see, and they always turn a handy profit. That kind of moneymaking genius is why the Times is raking in revenue hand over fist.

*eye roll*

Apparently, they've also never tried to sell anything, either. If you put an ad in the paper to sell your car, and someone buys your car because there was a "For Sale" sign in the window, how is it disingenuous to mention later that you put an ad in the paper to sell your car?

"Oh, so you put an ad in the paper, but someone bought the car because they saw a sign in your window? As if such a thing were possible?! When will the lies stop...?", sneered the news reporter.

Amen to that!

there’s a knock knock joke here somewhere.

“knock knock”

“Who’s there?”

“The NY Times! You must respond to our demands!!!”

“Todd, where’s the flyswatter?”

OR spent some time reading Trade-A-Plane. ( the sales bible for aeronuts )

A plane like that with that many cycles and that many hours on the Hobbs meter was not sold ‘at a loss.’

Gee, once again a NYT writer elevates opinion over substance and insight,. I am so not surprised.

OK. We concede Obama to the New York Times. Now, they can leave the rest of us the hell alone. Who cares what they think about the rest of this country?

Said NYSlimes reporter probably doesn’t even own a car. If he has one, it’s probably a company car. He certainly doesn’t have a clue about the economics of operating and maintaining a jet plane (or a used car with problems), and the cost savings that can accrue from unloading a high-maintenance asset. That’s real-world stuff that these ivory tower types can’t fathom.

The reporter, given their extremely limited knowledge of business and economics, may be technically correct about the "loss". It may be that the state's books reflected the plane's value as one number, and it was sold for something less than that number.

Book value doesn't necessarily have ANYTHING to do with market value, so the plane could have been sold at a "book loss". I would bet everything I own that 9 out of 10 reporters could not explain or likely even understand what I just said.
