Coloradans will face a jam-packed ballot this fall, but even the seemingly simple choice of a presidential candidates will include 14 third-party options, according to The Denver Post.
Because it is relatively easy to get on Colorados ballot, Objectivist and Boston Tea Party candidates will join Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain, as well as perennial third-party candidate Ralph Nader, in the mix of choices for the next leader of the free world.
As the Post reports:
For a $500 filing fee and a valid list of nine electors, candidates in Colorado can apply to be on the presidential ballot with any party, regardless of the partys size or time in existence, state officials said. For all other elections, parties have to demonstrate a minimum number of registered members or that they have consistently fielded candidates in elections, officials said.
In addition to the two major party nominees, Colorado voters will choose from the following presidential candidates, according to the Secretary of States official list:
Bob Barr, Libertarian Party Cynthia McKinney, Green Party Ralph Nader, unaffiliated Frank McEnulty, New American Independent Party Chuck Baldwin, Constitution Party Gene Amondson, Prohibition Party Gloria La Riva, Socialism and Liberation Party Charles Jay, Boston Tea Party Jonathan E. Allen, HeartQuake Party Alan Keyes, Americas Independent Party Thomas Robert Stevens, Objectivist Party Bradford Lyttle, Pacifist Party James Harris, Socialist Workers Party Brian Moore, Socialist USA Party
Barack HUSSEIN Obama, Demon-Rat Party Cynthia McKinney, Green Party Ralph Nader, unaffiliated Gloria La Riva, Socialism and Liberation Party Bradford Lyttle, Pacifist Party James Harris, Socialist Workers Party Brian Moore, Socialist USA Party
Do you think their presence will help our cause?
...Gunfight.
Take care of the meth problem, and bring back insane asylums. Then, they’ll go away. ;-)
I’d up the fee to $10,000.
Note: the title of this thread is not a racist statement. Not even if you insert the word “asses” after “horses”...
I agree it’s McCain*Palin in Colorado. Except for John McCain, Bob Barr and Alan keyes, you pull any of them out of a bag you got yourself a real live nut case.
Barack Obama, Democratic party Bob Barr, Libertarian Party Cynthia McKinney, Green Party Ralph Nader, unaffiliated Frank McEnulty, New American Independent Party Chuck Baldwin, Constitution Party Gene Amondson, Prohibition Party Gloria La Riva, Socialism and Liberation Party Charles Jay, Boston Tea Party Jonathan E. Allen, HeartQuake Party Alan Keyes, Americas Independent Party Thomas Robert Stevens, Objectivist Party Bradford Lyttle, Pacifist Party James Harris, Socialist Workers Party Brian Moore, Socialist USA Party
Dark horse? Is somebody being racist?
No...actually the problem in most states is that the chances to get on the ballot are slim.
Florida makes it so hard to get on the ballot. It is exact opposite of Colorado
At least Colorado will have some conservative choices...some states its pretty much Obama, McCain and some socialists
Traditionally Colorado is also one of the Libertarian Party's better states.
But the number of third parties on the ballot has more to do with a state's election laws than with the number of votes a particular party could get in the state.
Actually, $500 is quite reasonable. This is a about what it costs us in industry to create a new SKU. The state has the advantage of getting the fee up front. The added costs of a ballot listing are rather nominal. And the deck are cleared for new sales after each election. Unlike those of us in industry who have to hammer our sales and marketing people to get rid of non-productive SKU’s.
