McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime

McCain Responds to Obama's Reported Undermining of the Commander-In-Chief During Wartime [Andy McCarthy]

The McCain Campaign has issued a statement responding to the report from Amer Taheri (see today's web briefing) that Sen. Obama secretly negotiated with the Iraqi government regarding U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. McCain spokesman Randy Scheunemann stated as follows:

At this point, it is not yet clear what official American negotiations Senator Obama tried to undermine with Iraqi leaders, but the possibility of such actions is unprecedented. It should be concerning to all that he reportedly urged that the democratically-elected Iraqi government listen to him rather than the US administration in power. If news reports are accurate, this is an egregious act of political interference by a presidential candidate seeking political advantage overseas. Senator Obama needs to reveal what he said to Iraq's Foreign Minister during their closed door meeting. The charge that he sought to delay the withdrawal of Americans from Iraq raises serious questions about Senator Obama's judgment and it demands an explanation.

Few if any of Snobami’s cult voters believe in the constitution.

If they had their way, he would be king, er, president of the world with no need for an election.

Shades of Teddy Kennedy and the Paris Peace Talks with the North Vietnamese. Democrats don’t seem to be able to do Foreign Policy very well, do they?

For a guy who isn’t supposed to know much about the internet, McCain is kicking Obama’s caboose all over the map on you-tube and other video or media productions. Perhaps it’s Obama that doesn’t know as much as he thought about the internet.

I think that the Democrats still -- amazingly -- haven't figured out that McCain's camp is handling this election like a war. They're throwing funny ads at Obama like bombs aimed at lines of communication. As a result, Obama has been off-message for almost a month now.

Next I think we'll start seeing the strategic bombing campaign. This incredibly stupid move by Obama may well be the opportunity they need for the opening salvo ... but the "it's a dangerous world, and McCain's the only one ready for the big leagues" theme will be very effective. I mean look ... he's got Russia, Iran, North Korea, and now this (showing Obama's mendacity).

Felony or spectacularly bad judgment on Obama’s part...

Yes, I think you’ve pretty well summed it up. Obama is in trouble, and I don’t see it getting better from here on out, especially if his team keeps focusing on Palin, a lost cause that has no realistic chance of turning around with these tactics.

Look up “strategic framework agreement”, not SOFA.

Pay attention to the timeframe of Obama’s actions & then read this:

But Obama's national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said Taheri's article bore "as much resemblance to the truth as a McCain campaign commercial."

In fact, Obama had told the Iraqis that they should not rush through a "Strategic Framework Agreement" governing the future of US forces until after President George W. Bush leaves office, she said.

In the face of resistance from Bush, the Democrat has long said that any such agreement must be reviewed by the US Congress as it would tie a future administration's hands on Iraq.

"Barack Obama has never urged a delay in negotiations, nor has he urged a delay in immediately beginning a responsible drawdown of our combat brigades," Morigi said.

How is this not a violation of the Logan Act?

A sitting Senator and Presidential candidate for the opposition party is involving himself in negotiations with a foreign government, and urging a course of action different from that of the sitting Administration.

These are exactly the kind of shenanigans the Logan Act is supposed to prevent!

Instead of denying the intial report, the Obama campaign just confirmed it!

How is telling the Iraqis that they should not "rush through" any negotiations different from urging a delay in negotiations?

This is so blatant and irresponsible, and of course Obamamedia is going to cover for him, because no one will grill the campaign on the utter contradiction of this statement, or the fact that Obama has just admitted he has violated the Logan Act.

Very likely this is a felony.

Not just any felony, but a violation of the Constitution, I believe:

I truely hope that this is the big, thick, unbreakable nail that is going into the Obama Campaign coffin.

Now that McCain has put a statement out concerning it, I hope it gets picked up by the media. I want to hear some more from the Iraqi leaders and Gen. Patraeus.

While it’s disgusting and reprehensilbe to our men and women in uniform, I sure hope it’s true only so his true colors are exposed for Americans to see.

This is absolutely traitorous, heinous, and reprehensible! His spokewoman admitted to everything the Obama campaign just denied. They need to be called to the carpet on this one bigtime - in stump speeches, commercials, debates, and possible legal action against Obama.

Thanks!

I also later found some articles in the early July timeframe that say that the Iraqis would not enter into ANY agreement that did not include withdrawal of forces.

So that’s the best I can make out. Delaying the agreement delayed the troop withdrawal guidelines.

I agree with everything you posted.

Unfortunately the MSM doesn’t and it isn’t being picked up yet.

There are many blogs and bloggers that are trying to rectify that as we speak.
