This will play well in Virginia and Colorado where their are military bases.

One thing to remember is, that military personnel stationed in various states do not vote in those states. They vote in their home states. Only a small amount of troops in CO or VA are actually from those states. A soldier or sailor from say Kansas will vote in Kansas, not CO or VA.

The AG needs to take the bit in his teeth, charge someone, and get this settled, and soon.

Granted, violation of federal felonies by politicians should be prosecuted. Crooks and swindlers should spend a few years in prison and retire from public life in abject disgrace. Traitors should be executed.

But there is a problem with this. Republicans are not going to always control the White House, or Congress, or both. Image what a President Obama's Attorney General, with the backing of a solid democrat legislative branch, could do. President Bush would be on trial next year, along with Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, and who knows how many others. The Scooter Libby trial would be minor anomaly by comparison. Any conservative rising to political prominence would put his liberty at stake. They would be cleared from the field.

This won't happen today, and it won't happen in 2009. But if the course of our country doesn't reverse soon we'll have our very own Putin jailing his opponents and seizing industries.

I have emailed my senator, Kay B Hutchinson, asking them to have the AG investigate. If we all contacted our senators, that may would help also.

Seriously, though -

I'm not sure what you're implying here. The criminal behavior that we are discussing here is that of legislators doing negotiations with foreign powers, not Scooter Libby or some leaks of some type. The legislative branch doing any negotiations with other countries is unConstitutional, in a strict reading of the Constitution, which I favor. All such activity is exclusively limited to the realm of the executive branch of the United States. Congressmen and other officials (or private citizens, or even ex-presidents) are NOT supposed to be have any such official or pseudo official contacts with the government of a foreign power. This principle has been stretched so thinly that it is like spider silk right now. We have been ignoring this for too long. It is time to tie that power back into the executive again, whether it is a Demodog or a RINO or a conservative in the Oval Office. Having more than one voice reputedly speaking for the United States is dangerous and even disastrous.

What would happen if the Bush Administration brought charges against the democrat nominee for president? What would have happened if the Bush Administration had brought charges against the Speaker of the House for snuggling up to the Syrian dictator? There would be endless screaming from every corner that the prosecution was politically motivated.

Every democrat in office would be wailing on television, every media outlet would be talking about the Republican dirty tricks. Moderate Republicans would cave in the interests of cooperation. The Democrat congress would launch investigations into the White House abuse of power. It would be electoral chaos. The reprisals would never stop. Ken Starr gave a huge report to congress on extensive abuse of power, fraud and perjury. The Republican controlled congress brought up charges related to a tryst with an intern. They avoided the real issues of Whitewater.

Rangel has been cheating on his taxes and the Democrats won't even remove him from Chairmanship of the committee that makes tax policy. Cold Cash Jefferson was stuffing tens of thousands of dollars in a refrigerator and the democrats won't even censure him. The list goes on and on.

The Democrats won't police their own. The Republicans won't prosecute because it would be viewed as dirty politics. The voters keep sending back to congress a Representative who had a gay prostitution ring running out of his townhouse and a Senator who left a woman to suffocate in a submerged car.

The situation is almost untenable. President Bush hasn't sent an email in eight years because it could be subpoenaed. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I think we have to start prosecuting from the bottom up. You can't go directly after the elected felons because the screaming would drown out the truth. The electorate as a whole wouldn't understand what really happened any more than they understand what happened with the Valerie Plame case.

Unconstitutional doesn't matter with our courts the way they are. The constitution is so bloated and twisted as to be unrecognizable. Sure, Obama and Pelosi violated the Logan act. Outside Free Republic, what percentage of voters even know what the Logan act is? One percent? Less?

And thanks for the bunny. And the pancake. If I couldn't laugh I'd cry.

McCain and his team DID jump on this story right away. They put out a press release within hours - very measured and just the right tone. He has mentioned it in his stump speeches since. SNOBama was been forced to respond yesterday. Amir Tahiri, who was one of the first to break the story, has another article in the NYPost today about it refuting SNOBama’s response. SNOBama is on the defensive here.

This is getting air time everywhere I’ve heard. Hannity, Rush and Glenn Beck have all mentioned it I’m sure. What more are you interested in? This is a long term issue that isn’t going to blow away with the wind if it is true, as it appears to be.

I am glad you enjoyed your pancake. And the waitress.

You say you don’t know what the answer is: I claim I do. That is, to prosecute someone high profile and let the USSC decide. Pelosi/ SNOBama/ Carter - give them a high profile warning and explanation to the public, and follow through. Get the conviction - then let them take it to the USSC. That is the only way to recover. Bottom up won’t work.

The Constitution is the only authority needed. Article 1 clearly does not authorize any congressmen to negotiate with foreign powers. Let people read Section 8 themselves and spread out from there. Article 2 clearly gives the executive branch exclusive authority to assign ambassadors and enter into treaty negotiations. There is no ambiguity. Even a 6th grader can understand.

This has to happen some day. It can only get worse. The situation now is too dangerous to stall any more. Do it in mid November, and let them scream.
