The messiah went on to say he was a Democrat who could have spent his time campaigning in Las Vegas

It's unusual but NV is a swing state in this election. We need every Republican vote there to offset the liberal union and transplanted Californian vote in LV. The Messiah was in Elko to hustle for the union voters from the gold mines.

I’m surprised Obama bothered to stop in Elko—the county voted about 4 to 1 for Bush both in 2000 and 2004, and he couldn’t expect to draw a big crowd.

If Obama loses this election by a close margin campaign stops like this one are going to be questioned as a waste of time & other resources.

Obama spent a lot of time in my area, central Pennsylvania, during the Dem Primary. It's another solidly Republican area. It made a sort of sense then, when the opponent was Hillary. But for the general election he'd do better to focus on areas where he is either strong (maximize his base turnout) or on areas with strong crossover tendencies.

Campaigning in conservative Republican areas is just not going to budge the meter.

Thanks for the great report. I was pretty sure he had his teleprompter crutch with him and you have confirmed it.

I also surmised that the crowd wasn’t very big because of how tight the camera shot was.

yep...same thing happened in Colorado when we lived there.

There are only one or two mines that are union here. Newmont for sure,Barrack is not. I don't think it matters much. We have an established community that votes Republican. The newbies come and go but dont’ vote much. It cuts into their casino time.

That said we take nothing for granted out here. We pound the pavement until the polls close.

Back to Hunter S. Thompson ~ a favorite of dope blowing Leftwingtards. He wrote a book about one aspect of Elko as he saw it. Even contracted out a bunch of the writing to a guy I know from the net.

Obama probably thought highly of Hunter, although probably not highly of the way he had his cremated remains shot from a cannon!

Obama went to Elko to pay homage to an MJ hero, not to draw a crowd. He sought solidarity with the Rolling Stone subscriber base.
