YouTube has pulled from its website a video of a "Saturday Night Live" skit featuring characters portraying New York Times reporters investigating whether Todd Palin was having sex with the couple's own daughters after NBC expressed a claim of copyright, even though a wide range of other "SNL" clips remain available.
(Excerpt) Read more at worldnetdaily.com ...
And they still wouldn’t DARE to do the same skit about Obama.
As to why this skit isn't up on NBC.com yet...maybe criticism from both sides...but my, guess...they haven't found a sponsor. Once they can turn a dime on it, it will be there...
What amazes me is that this is the third or fourth thread (on FR alone) with the vast majority of 'FRighteously indignant' posters not even having seen the bit. Sunday, it was WorldNutDaily (slow weekend for BigFoot sightings) who fanned the flames...and yesterday (sadly) it was Rush (who admitted he didn't see it!). There is alot to be upset about this election cycle...and a late night comedy routine that absolutely ridicules the elite MSM, is not it!!!Put your energy folks into campaigning, canvassing, phone calling for McCain/Palin...not wasting your time tilting at the NBC windmill when there is sooooo many important issue today.
McCain has been on SNL several times...he always gets good laughs and comes across really well. SNL has infact skewered Obama (anybody remember the Hillary Debate skit where the moderators ask if they can get Barry anything...a pillow...and become orgasmic when he responds to 'that' question?) I am guessing alot (ok, most here) don't remember that one...because they don't watch the show...only comment upon it.
And none of them could survive without Thai take out...
Now that I've finally seen it I can't for the life of me understand why ANYONE would defend it!!..and plenty here at FR are defending it!!!!
Disgusting, vulgar, vile and sick!
Why are some of you defending this????
The purpose was simply to have a giggle at the expense of a normal family.
If SNL needs a defense I suggest they start doing so themselves. One thing FR doesn't need is to defend the indefensible.
The entire skit is 8:04 in run time. That link shows about 30 seconds of it (skewering it for the reaction sought). Its not the whole piece...whoever put ‘that’ up (on YouTube) is stoking the outrage fire and missing what the whole skit was about...impaling those who have slandered the Palins. Playing conservatives is that all that little snippet does...THAT WAS NOT THE ENTIRE SKETCH.
The skit was not done in a vacuum of political discussion and manufactured news. As a consequence it was an attack on our candidate, not the NYT.
WHY IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT'S DECENT ARE ANY OF YOU DEFENDING THIS SICK,STUPID JUNK?????????????????
End of story.
NBC is indefensible.
Did you actually see the entire clip? No the editted 28 second bit...the actual 8:04 run?
Good mercy, in the name of all that's decent...
WHY ARE YOU DEFENDING THIS SICK, STUPID SKIT???????????
The bigger question is why is NBC letting a demoncRAT candidate for senate write anything on their programming line up. But then again, the National Barack Channel is one of the propaganda outlets of the DNC.
I am defending 'it' because is showed, with great clarity how the main stream media (ie., the New York Times) 'makes up' the news. If you saw the skit...the 'investigative reporter' MADE UP THE INCEST CLAIM. And the NYTimes ran with it. And the story won a Pulitzer Prize EVEN THOUGH IT WAS MADE UP! It showed the media to be a deeply damaged (can't live without contact to multiple psycho-therapists; transgendered; phobic; angry and ligitious; can't drive a car or even hold driver's license; never been off Manhattan Island) insular, elitist, basically useless group. What part about THAT don't you get?
Don't you 'get' that this is no different than the MSM running with 'Trig is Bristol's baby?' That was made up too...and what SNL was doing, via satire, was SHOWING THAT THE MEDIA MAKES THIS CRAP UP!
There is alot to get upset folks...this isn't it!
Now that I’ve seen the whole thing, I agree with you
It would be sick to suggest with Obama....
.. and this is sick to suggest with Palin... to imply .....to put out that innuendo... that gets in the public mind.
Shame on all of you for defending this.....it just makes me sick!
As much of it as could be stomached ~ still, the more popular excerpt is enough to condemn the whole network so why should we quibble about that excerpt condemning the skit?
It IS a big deal, and you should really search your conscience if you think otherwise.
They have no love for Sarah Palin and her values or her family's feelings!
I dare say if ANYONE ***ha ha ha jokingly*** said your husband was 'doing' your kids, you wouldn't be so fast to defend the 'joker'....
GOOD MERCY!!!!!!!!
This family has been through tough times lately....
..Lady, do you have any feelings?
Can you not even scrounge up a modicum of respect or understanding for someone who has just given birth to a Down Syndrome baby and finds out her daughter is pregnant.
Guess what.....this happens to other people too....all over flyover country....and that's why people are mad, mad, mad and disgusted with hit pieces like this and people who defend it!!!!!!!!!!
Where is your conscience?.........Where is your inner being/spirit that says....
THIS IS NOT RIGHT!
Ninety-five percent of the skit is editted out. That's alot to quibble about. Sorry...but this conservative makes up her own mind by actually viewing what is being discussed...not running w/someone's editorilized version.
>>I saw the video, and It made was way more critical of the New York Times. If you didnt see it, then you do not know what you are talking about.<<
I agree. I would guess that most of the people who are complaining about it either didn’t see it at all, or saw a short excerpt.
I caught part of Greta van Susteren last night. She was talking about the “anti-Palin” (perhaps an understadnable reaction considering all the mud that has been thrown at Palin) aspect of the skit. I tuned in at the end of segment, but it seems likely that Susteren did not play the whole skit.
I watched/heard every word.
I'm turning off my computer now and you all can defend this piece of excrement till the cows come home.
I'm a little sick at my stomach that anyone would continue to defend this.
I have better things to do today than spend my time & blood pressure on you all!
Even 10 seconds of dross taints the whole production.
I haven’t seen the whole “skit”, but imho, some things are simply not funny. Incest is one of them.
Keep getting your permanently offended view of current events from WorldNutDaily; post early and often on said offense on FR (or any other site)...and rachet up your outrage index over the inconsequential (like a late night, satirical comedy routine). Hyperbole much?
If there was EVER a reason for the “fair use” doctrine, where copyrighted material can be quoted and posted for comment and debate, this is it.
McCain did really well on Rachel Ray. The audience was so excited and upbeat. I couldn’t believe it was being shot in New York City.
It wasnt funny, but it was making fun of the press, not Palin.
You do have a point. I think it would have been better to just have the skit say the NYT was looking for family scandals. I think they were trying to think of something preposterous that the reporters would write about as if it were a legitimate story.
I still think that, as a whole, the NYT was the target of the satire. Every single character in that skit is portrayed as despicable, and even the reporter that got a Pulitzer prize for writing a sleazy, unsubstantiated story about the Palins was eaten by a polar bear.
The problem now is that the incest excerpt is what is playing in the media (e. g. Fox news).
Didn't write a letter because my satellite receiver dials home every night to let them know what I'm not watching. Just deleted the following from my satellite receiver channel list:
NBC local affiliate
CNBC
MSNBC
ShopNBC
My home is now Peacock-Free!!!
You are exactly correct. Ironically, I, too first started out looking to see this clip specifically because folks said that it was a clear-cut case of SNL libs making up anti-Sarah stuff, and that fit with my view of SNL, which I still do think is MOSTLY correct still.
But...I don’t know what got into them —it was a very anti-journalist, anti-NYC skit: Basically showed them 2b elites who are out of touch anywhere besides Manhattan cafes, yoga studios, and psychiatrist offices.
The skit featured an editor explaining to his journalist writers that they were to be sent to Alaska for investigative reporting against Sarah. But first they would be lectured about Alaska culture, so as to “fit in with the locals”. The NYT staff are all dark complected, slicked-back haired, chronically pissed-off folks, but the “NYT” has a rugged, vaguely Alaskan-looking guy with blonde hair on hand to answer questions.
Lecturer begins talking:
Show of hands, how many have ever been outside of NYC? Everone looks puzzled, as if contemplating Area 51 or the Loch Ness Monster. No hands go up. One guy vaguely mentions he flew to LA once. Hearing this, another confesses that he fell asleep on the E train once, ending up in Queens. Everyone giggles, seeing Queens as far-away, exotic and strange.
Lecturer holds up photo of snowmobile. Anyone know what this is? Guy with confused look on face ventures, “Is it a baptising machine?” No. Another takes a shot, “Is is a crucifix...?” No.....lecture glances around room inquisitively, still holding photo.
“I believe....it is an assault weapon...?” nnnnoooo...
Hand goes up, “What time of day do polar bear attacks usually occur in Juneau?” (at different points during lecture, same guy asks worriedly about Polar Bear attacks, methods of defense, etc.).
Other cerebral guy raises hand, states that he will need referrals for 2 psychiatrists during his reporting time there in Alaska —his therapist can’t take his calls, since Alaska is in a different time zone.
Lecturer explains there are very few shrinks there, cannot provide referrals. Sharp guy begins wimpering and hyperventilating, clutching his chest, per Woody Allen...
Same worried guy — “What if a polar bear tracks me to my hotel room by the scent of my Thai take-out..?” Oh, there’s no Thai take-out in Alaska, so no problem..!
Hearing this, staff appear thunderstruck and speechless. Looking at one another, half walk out, writing off the Alaska writing trip completely.
Super hilarious skit, 8 minutes total. The striking part was that while I was doubled-over, the live audience showed only scattered, worried giggling and gasps.
I have no idea what got into SNL, but whoever wrote that skit is out on the street, looking for a job, I guarantee you that....
Thanks for the sane post...;)PaMom
well...the incest joke got maybe 3 chuckles from the audience
some of the serious skewering of the NYT got a little nervous laughter, I could tell the audience wasn’t sure about laughing at the sharper daggers...not surprising given the audience
the more benign polar bear stuff got more laughs
“I saw the video, and It made was way more critical of the New York Times. If you didnt see it, then you do not know what you are talking about.”
Yep.
Here’s the skit:

Good comparison.
SNL is hugely liberal, and this was one of the few times they got it RIGHT.”
If enough humorless Conservatives complain, maybe SNL will learn it's lesson: NEVER MAKE FUN OF THE NYTIMES.
Way to go, folks. /sarc
Did you see the skit?
Did you even see the skit?
“I have better things to do today than spend my time & blood pressure on you all!”
Mercy, you sound like you have the vapors...
Might do that first. Very informative.
In the meantime don't be carrying water for the geeksquad at Saturday night or their funny little friends at the NYT.
The whole thing is just so gay!
This skit was certainly a polarizing event. It’s amazing how differently folks see it.
I understand the outrage at even the intimation of incest in the Palin family, but satire has to push the envelope to make its point.
How do you push the envelope on a family that has already been accused in the mainstream press of faking pregnancy, speaking in tongues, banning books, secessionist ties, genocide of native populations, destroying public property, abuse of power, lying, redneck, white trash, uneducated, etc., etc., etc?
What the left, the press, the NY Times have actually done has been so ridiculous, so feral, so psychotic, so beyond the pale of anything resembling decency and fairness ... how do you satirize what has been absurd in the extreme already? What was left to satirize was the only thing that the NY Times, et al, have not yet accused the Palin’s of.
That was my take on it. I thought we should thank SNL. Unfortunately the rest of the folks wanted to close it down. This was the single most factual addressing of the MSM in our age, and it sailed right over the head of most Conservatives. And we accuse the left of being their own worst enemy...
might have thought it was funny if they hadn’t thrown in the bit about Todd and the daughters. Nothing in the rest of the skit excuses that.
The problem with me is, there were already people out there accusing the Palins of incest, if they had stuck with the whole being attacked by a polar bear or reporters not knowing what a shot gun is, that would have been funny. The stuff about the Palins ruined the rest of the skit. There is just other things more outlandish that could have been out in in place of that comment.
